Morgan couldnât help but laugh when he heard this.
Dexter didnât laugh. Heather poured him a glass of wine, but Larry quickly moved it away. saving, âMr.
Russell canât drink alcohol.â
âWhy?â Heather didnât understand.
As Larry was struggling to explain, Eugene shifted the topic to Morgan. âMs. Warren, you are the only woman Iâve ever seen who dares to show displeasure to Mr. Bastille. First love is indeed different, hahaâ¦â
Josie absentmindedly played with the food in her bowl, lacking any appetite. âMr. Jablon, Iâve long heard of your reputation. I never thought youâd share the same love for gossip as womenfolk.â
This remark was clearly loaded with malice. Eugene felt a moment of awkwardness, then managed to squeeze out a smile and said to Morgan, âSheâs quite a feisty girl, huh?â
Morgan curved his lips into a smile, pouring a glass of wine as a token of apology. âSheâs always been like that. Please forgive her.â
In their conversation, it was as if they were back in their university days when he would take her out to see the world. He would often come to her defense during gatherings. Even if Josie said something wrong, people would not get angry out of respect for Morgan.
This was just like the old times.
Josie wasnât too keen on reminiscing. She stood up and said, âIâm going to get some fresh air.â
Outside the private room, there was a large hot spring pool. Josie sat at the edge, her feet dangling in the water.
A figure appeared behind her at some point, also sitting down. âDex is discussing work with them, I donât like listening to it, so I came out to sit with you.â
It was Heather.
Josie didnât look at her. âAre you okay with letting Aunt Claudia. go back alone?â
âWith a driver to pick her up and drop her off, I have nothing to worry about,â Heather said.
With a smile, Josie said, âGreat.â Eugene was a womanizer. To cater to his tastes, Morgan invited quite a few people over, men and women, though women were in the majority. They lined up by the hot spring pool, at sight that was quite pleasing to the eye.
Dexter was already bored to death, and he rested his head on one hand. Heather sat next to him and talked to him, but she didnât know if he was listening or not.
Before long, the atmosphere outside became lively. Those who had drunk a bit too much. proposed a swimming competition. The women started to compete with each other, and it was then that their good figures were revealed.
Dexter was woken up by the noise. Heather pulled his hand. âLetâs go take a look too.â
Josie stood still, shoulder to shoulder with Morgan. Her previously upset mood improved significantly upon seeing this farce, a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
This sight was extremely glaring in Dexterâs eyes.
âWeâre one person short.â Eugene was in high spirits. With five women divided into pairs for a game, they were still one short. He turned his gaze to Heather. âMs. Olsen, would you like to join?â
Heather tightly grasped Dexterâs hand, expressing her reluctance. âLet Ms. Warren join. Iâve been drinking.â
Suddenly summoned, Josie subtly nudged Morganâs arm without changing her expression. He knew her all too well and said, âSheâs on her period. She canât go in the water.â
Eugene nodded, cordially saying to Heather, âHaving a drink wonât hurt. The water is shallow. It wonât drown you. Ms. Olsen, please do us the honor.â After speaking, he glanced at Dexter.
The latterâs gaze was constantly fixed impassively on the arms of Josie and Morgan as they touched.
Seeing no help forthcoming, Heather didnât want to dampen the mood in front of so many people, so she reluctantly agreed to go into the water.
As soon as she touched the water, Josie suddenly said, âWearing clothes is considered a burden. Why donât you change into something else?â
Heather was reluctant. âItâs fine, weâre just playing around. No need to take it seriously.â
Josie folded her hands, âYou donât have any change of clothes if yours get wet, right? It would be better to change into something more comfortable now to avoid any inconvenience later.â
She hit the nail on the head, prompting Eugene to quickly go get the clothes for the hot spring. âMs.
Warren makes a valid point.â
