âWell, if it isnât the renowned Mrs. Russell.â
A mocking voice echoed from the right side of the hall. It was a male voice filled with arrogance.
Josie and Angel immediately looked over, and to their surprise, they saw Zach dressed in a suit, hands in his pockets, looking refined yet with a hint of a dandy.
He was eyeing Josie with ill intent.
Josie closed her eyes and couldnât believe how bad her luck was.
She was about to pretend she hadnât heard it, but Zach stepped forward to stop her. âMrs. Russell, now that youâre famous, do you no longer wish to acknowledge your old friends?â
Josie slowly raised her gaze, her tone calm and unhurried. âWould you consider me an old friend of yours?â
Zach laughed, âWhy wouldnât I? Weâve been through so much together and shared hardships. Now that youâre famous, do you want to just write it all off?â
Every sentence was laced with sarcasm, filled with mockery and ridicule.
If it werenât for the surrounding crowd, Josie would have loved nothing more than to smash. the bag in her hand on Zachâs head.
She glanced around, suppressing her frustration for the moment. âIf you have nothing else. for me, Iâll be on my way.â
Seeing her not resisting, Zach laughed even harder. âJosie, I didnât expect you to dare show up at Dexterâs event. If I were him, I would definitely blacklist you.â
Every man on earth would retaliate when they got cheated on.
Josie was well aware of that. Yet, she didnât want to make a scene because there were too many people around. She didnât want to cause trouble for Dexter.
The person in charge of Mandarin Oriental Hotel had noticed her as soon as she walked in. the door. At that moment, he was in a difficult position. On the one hand, there was the bossâ wife, and on the other, a well-known figure. He couldnât afford to offend either of them.
The person in charge of the hotel wanted to step forward, but Josie noticed him. Silently, she made a gesture, signaling him to step back.
âWhat a pity youâre not Dexter,â Josie responded and smirked. âEven if you threw yourself at me, I wouldnât be interested. Thatâs because a man who doesnât respect himself is truly disgraceful.â
She hinted at something, which irritated Zach so much that the corner of his mouth twitched.
âWhat makes you think youâre so special?â He suddenly snatched the document from Josieâs hand, blatantly opening it to take a look. âTsk! Do you want to meet the minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources? You must be dreaming.â
âYou!â After listening for a while, Angel wanted to step forward and take the document back, but Josie held her hand to stop her.
Zach waved the document lightly. âHow about spending the night with me? I promise youâll get to see him.â
Josieâs breathing gradually became rapid. In the standoff, the long-standing conflict between the two finally erupted. Zach was determined not to let her go without a good humiliation.
âSure.â Josie stepped forward, the front of her high heels pressing down on Zachâs foot. She leaned her entire weight forward, causing him to grit his teeth and glare at her.
âI wonder if Ms. Shaw finds out, will she be able to hold herself back from causing a scene at the Olsen Residence? If Laura steps down, what will you have to compete with your sister, Mr. Zach?â
With a hint of mockery, Josieâs expression infuriated Zach, who pushed her away. âWhatâs so great about Laura? Sheâs nothing more than someone I once beat to the brink of death!â
âOh.â Josie nodded. âIâve heard that most of the projects you have were secured by her. Mr. Zach, would you really dare to say those words in front of her now?â
The greatest affront to a manâs dignity was to belittle him and mock him for living off at woman.
Zach was furious, his hand raised high, ready to strike. âYou b*tch!â
âZach!â A voice suddenly came from the stairs.
