âHow would I dare to ask a young lady of the Olsen family to drink with me? I will be in serious trouble if your father finds out,â Dexter joked and smiled, but his gaze remained stern.
âAnywayâ¦â
âStay with me.â
Those words pulled at Heatherâs heartstrings.
This dinner gathering was to discuss a project. Although there was some alcohol, it was at a moderate level. Heather sat beside Dexter, listening to the discussion attentively.
After some time, Dexterâs business partner finally noticed Heather. âMiss, you look familiar. You remind me of Mrs. Russell. Are youâ¦â
Heather turned to Dexter immediately.
Dexter answered calmly, âSheâs my assistant. Youâve probably seen her when she sent documents to your company this morning.â
The business partner asked his secretary. His secretary nodded, confirming the truth of Dexterâs words.
âIâm sorry. I overstepped. The person appeared embarrassed.
Heather excused herself to go to the washroom.
Heaven on Earth had many private rooms. Apart from Dexterâs meeting, there was another dinner gathering at the back. The gathering sounded lively, but there was a sudden disturbance, and someone suddenly kicked open Dexterâs door.
It was Summer. She came in with a glass of wine and said, âMy, my, arenât you Mr. Redford of Sphinx Corp?â
Mr. Redford glanced at Dexter before replying to Summer awkwardly, âThisâ¦â
Summer had a business gathering tonight and wore a fur coat. She looked sultry as she approached them. âMr. Redford, how could you betray me? Iâve requested a meeting for a month, but you always refused. I didnât expect to bump into you here.â
Mr. Redfordâs face flushed embarrassedly. âMs. Olsen, I have some matters to discuss with Mr.
Wickam.â
âWhat is it?â Summer appeared drunk and behaved recklessly. âDonât tell me itâs the construction in the south area.â
No one responded.
Dexter leaned into his seat and looked tired.
âIâm right then.â Summer raised her voice. âBut I wonât accept this. The Olsen familyâs proposal and fund were as good as Russell Groupâs! Why didnât you choose us!â
Mr. Redford Tooked at Dexter as if asking for help. âIt wasnât because the Olsen family is not good enough. We felt Russell Groupâs proposal was more suitable for Sphinx Corp.â
âSuitable?â Summer laughed as if she had heard a joke. Fury surged within her, but she had no way to vent it. She threw the wine glass on the floor, causing the glass to shatter everywhere. âIâve worked as a researcher for three years. How would I not know whatâs suitable for your company?â
Then, she glared at Dexter, who remained silent, before stomping away in her high heel shoes.
Mr. Redford was nervous even after she left. âMr. Russell, who knew this Ms. Olsen has such a temper?â
Dexter gave a vague smile. âShe wasnât like that before.â
Half an hour later, Dexter bid Mr. Redford farewell and watched him leave in his car.
Heather stood behind Dexter. The wind was cold at night. She clasped her hands to stay warm. âDex, I heard Summer came by and caused a scene.â
Dexter gave her an ambiguous glance. âShe was distraught about losing the project with Sphinx Corp.
It will most likely damage her status in the Olsen family.â
Heather seemed confused about his words.
Dexter had instructed Heather to send documents today. She had plenty of opportunities to leak secrets to Summer during this period.
Yet, Summerâs reaction from just now proved Heather did not reveal anything. In other words, Heather had fulfilled her duties.
âYes, I will comfort her when Iâm home. I donât think Dad will punish her over this.â
Heather seemed unaware of the situation and did not pick up Dexterâs hint.
Neon lights lit up the night scenery, allowing Dexter to glimpse her gentle expression. His heart softened/ slightly.
Perhaps I shouldnât only treat her as a pawn. If thereâs a chance, I should treat her as a friend.
