âJosie.â
Josie was stunned to hear Dexterâs voice. He walked to her and pulled her hand. âItâs already after working hours. Why havenât you gone home?â
She wanted to escape his grip, but he increased his strength as he looked at the scarred-face man.
âWhatâs up with you guys?â
The man snorted coldly. Since Dexter was alone, he didnât treat him as a threat.
âWhat? Gonna be a hero? Letâs see if youâre up for it.â
With that, he attacked Dexter with a club.
Dexter narrowed his eyes. Just when the club was an inch away from his face, he grabbed it before throwing a punch at that man.
The man grunted and groaned, clutching his cheeks.
The rest of the group didnât catch what had just happened. They looked at the situation in stunned silence.
The scarred-faced man pointed at Dexter. âYou played dirty!â
As soon as he finished speaking, Dexter crushed his hand. Everyone there could hear his bones crack.
âNow you know who you shouldnât cross.â
âOuch!â
The man groaned in pain.
âBro, Iâm sorry. Iâll never do it again.â
Dexter finally let go of him after hearing that.
At that moment, a security guard from the company rushed over.
âCall the police. Let them sit in jail for a few days.â
âNo! Please let us go!â
No matter what they said, Dexterâs resolve remained the same. He looked at Josie and asked, âAre you okay?â
âIâm fine.â Then, she winked at him. âI didnât know you could fight, Mr. Russell.â
After complimenting him, she realized they were still holding hands and quickly let go.
âThanks. Since itâs late, Iâll be heading home.â With that, she wanted to leave, but he grabbed her hand again.
âI think we are going in the same direction. Iâll send you back.â
Then, Josie was thrown into the car as though she were a pet. She wanted to complain but quickly shut her mouth after seeing his expression.
No one uttered another word on their way back until the car was parked in the garage.
As Josie unbuckled her seatbelt, Dexter asked, âWhat was that?â
âHmph?â
Then, she realized what he was referring to. âItâs not a big deal.â She didnât want to elaborate on the rumors in the company. âThanks for helping me out.â
Dexter frowned. âAre you sure itâs nothing?â
Josie quickly smiled. âYes. Itâs nothing at all.â
âGive me your phone.â
Though confused, she handed her phone to him obediently.
He punched in a series of numbers. Soon, his phone rang.
âThis is my personal number. If you are in any trouble, you can call me directly.â
Josie was stunned to see that. âThis⦠isnât appropriate, is it?â she said softly.
âYeah?â
She quickly took her phone back. âNothing. Thanks, Mr. Russell. Can I get out now?â
After getting his approval, she quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. In no time, the sound of a car engine roared. Right after that, the car was gone from the garage.
