The water in the dungeon suddenly tilted downward, the water level rising to reach Josieâs neck.
Her struggles proved futile, and she closed her eyes, awaiting her impending drowning.
Josephine turned off the water valve and said, âIf you donât speak up, Iâll turn it back on, and youâll surely die.â
Josie, however, remained incredibly composed. âIf I die, youâll die too.â
âEven on the brink of death, youâre still so defiant. I doubt youâll have the chance to witness my demise.â
Josephine tried to turn the water valve again, but the bodyguard held her back. He shook his head and said, âWe canât drown her yet. Mr. Carter needs her alive for his plans, so she canât die now!â
âWhatâs the point? Sheâs just a woman! Move aside!â
âI really canât let this happen, Ms. Yowell!â
âYouâ¦â
As the two continued to argue above, Josie was utterly exhausted. Her legs were weak, barely able to keep her standing. Finally, she found the strength to speak up. âSummer Olsenâ¦â
Upon hearing her voice, Josephine turned to his side, waiting for her next words.
âI suppose Arnold promised to be with you for a lifetime, even going so far as to tell you that youâre the only woman he would ever marry.â
When Josie spoke these words, she clearly saw a flicker of uncertainty cross Josephineâs face. âI advise you to first find out who Summer is, then investigate whether Arnold can actually marry you.â
Josephine was no fool, but she still firmly believed in Arnold. âHe wouldnât deceive me.â
Josie fell silent, finding nothing more to say to a lovestruck fool like her.
Josephine paused for a moment, but in the end, she stepped out of the prison. Once outside, she immediately made a phone call.
âDad?â
âHow are you doing, Josephine? Are you close to your destination?â The voice on the other end was evidently filled with worry, having been up all night.
âNot yet, Dad, Can you help me look up someone?â
âWho?â
âSummer Olsen.â
Inside the water dungeon, Josie tilted her head upwards. Noticing a camera pointed directly at her, she said with a strained voice, âI know youâre watching. If you really have the guts, then tell Josephine the truth. Youâll gain nothing in the end by exploiting a womanâs love for you.â
There was no response.
âAre you so certain that she wonât leave you, even after knowing the truth? Youâre overly confident.â
Still, there was no response.
âKill me!â Splashes of water erupted as Josie stood on the brink of her defenses collapsing. Her voice echoed. âYou might as well kill me directly. I look down on you for tormenting me like this!â
After a moment, a voice finally came through the camera. âI wouldnât have said those things to Josephine if I were you.â
It was cold and laced with mockery.
âSince I was the one who brought her aboard, I obviously had my reasons. Youâre too foolish, Josie.â
These words felt like a divine torment.
âShe was an innocent, even kind-hearted woman. If you pleaded with her, there was a chance she might secretly let you go. Josie, youâve made another wrong move. Werenât you always the best at playing coy and acting vulnerable? Why have you stopped?â
He response was dripping with irony. Josie was on the brink of madness at that point. The seawater was corroding her entire body, pushing her to the edge of collapse.
âJust go ahead and kill me.â
âThe video had already been sent to Dexter, and I am eagerly anticipating his next move.â
At that time, in Wayneâs study.
âPrice? What do you want, Mr. Dalton?â
Dexter leaned back in his chair, his expression suddenly turning sinister.
âWhen you snatched that piece of land from my grasp, your methods were so decisive and swift. You must have relished the taste of victory, Mr. Russell. Now, itâs my turn.â
The mask on Wayneâs face was both enigmatic and bewildering.
âI yield.â Dexter didnât even blink an eye when he said that.
âSuch a quick agreement. It seems I should have asked for more,â Wayne said, somewhat taken aback.
