Arnoldâs face was dark and gloomy. âMr. Dalton is outside.â
The womenâs restroom was situated right next to the menâs restroom. A jolt went through Josieâs heart.
From outside came the steady sound of footsteps. Josie wanted to take a look, but Arnold pulled her back. âWhat are you looking at?â
âI want to see if he also wears a mask outside.â
Arnold chuckled. âYouâre a curious person, arenât you?â
âI have a question for you. Does he always wear a mask when he sees you?â she asked out of genuine curiosity.
Arnold didnât want to answer, but under her intense gaze, he had no choice but to nod. âYeah.â
âDoes he use a voice changer as well?â
âYeah.â
âThen when was the last time you saw him?â
This question caused Arnold to pause slightly. âThanks to you, it was a few days ago.â
Josie didnât understand. âWhat do you mean?â
She seemed so heartless that it irked Arnold. If it werenât for her, Rachelâs country club wouldnât have closed down. The night he met with Wayne, he was livid. âArnold, youâve fallen for this woman again.â
Arnold crossed his arms, unwilling to admit it. âMy subordinates were ignorant. It wasnât my command. They have already been punished.â
Wayne sat in a high position, letting out a cold laugh. âYou know, the land at the Rivodia- Wavery border was taken away by Dexter! Just two hours ago!â
Immediately, Arnold looked up. âHow could this be? The leaders of Rivodia clearly promised meâ¦â At this point, anything said would merely be an excuse. Arnold spoke halfway and then closed his mouth. âI take full responsibility for this matter.â
âDo you know why Dexter suddenly became so decisive? Heâs asserting his dominance, warning you not to mess with that woman! Why did you still take the risk? Youâve ruined my big plans. You better think of a way to make amends.â
The grating mechanical noise was painfully piercing to the ears. Arnold, however, remained defiant. âIâve been contending with him for years,â he said. âI wonât let him succeed so easily.â
âStay away from her. I wonât repeat myself.â Wayne slammed down a cup. âOr else, get rid of her. Donât interfere with my business!â
Arnold turned his head. Josie still wore that stubborn and dissatisfied expression. He averted his gaze, feeling a headache coming.
âAnswer me,â she urged.
âWhat did you say?â
âWhat do you mean by thanks to me, Arnold? Did Mr. Dalton tell you to stay away from me?â
Her guess was quite accurate. âI want to stay away from you more than anyone else.â
âBut you canât do it.â Josie raised an eyebrow slyly. âTell me honestly, do you still have lingering feelings for me?â
As the footsteps of Wayne outside grew fainter and fainter, Arnold stepped out and said, âTo be honest, you are the most delusional woman I have ever met in my life.â
Josie followed behind him, matching his pace. Her phone lit up again, the screen displaying Lauraâs name. She had sent a message that read: Iâm coming to see you now. Do you welcome me?
Josie halted in her steps and replied: Iâm not at home.
Laura: Where are you, then?
Josie: Iâm outside. Anyway, Grape is at home crying. She likes beautiful young ladies. You should go see her. It would probably cheer her up.
Laura: Haha, then Iâll wait for you at home.
Arnold turned around and saw her standing still. He was somewhat exasperated. âCanât you walk again?â
Josie deliberately walked slowly. âWhatâs the rush? You have no patience for the disabled.â
Before, it was Arnold who brought her here, so naturally, she would return in his car. By now, Josie was no longer afraid of him. On the contrary, she wanted to extract more useful information from him.
âWhereâs your driver? Why are you driving yourself?â
