Larry had been consistently keeping tabs to ascertain who Arnold would arrange to meet Edward the next day.
Josie was also very curious.
Dexter blurted out, âSummer?â
Dexter guessed it right.
After a few seconds of silence from Larry, there was a hint of complaint in his voice. âHow did you know? Who leaked the information?â
Josie hadnât expected his guess to be correct, leaving her utterly astonished.
Dexter wore a half-smile, watching her as he explained, âIf you were to ask for Charlesâ position, even if it were Summer, anyone would have suspicions. Therefore, Arnold wouldnât rashly replace anyone, let alone go personally.â
Larry was on the other end, momentarily confused. âAre you talking to me?â
Josie replied, âBut even Laura doesnât know where Summer is. How would Arnold know?â
âDonât forget that theyâre in the same boat,â Dexter said indifferently. âPerhaps these past two years, Summer has been by Arnoldâs side.â
Josie became speechless. So? Is it a setup?
Josie couldnât begin to fathom just how cunning Arnold was.
âArnold probably wouldnât have allowed her to go if he didnât trust her completely.â
Josie couldnât dare to imagine even more. Dexter was considered to be even more cunning than Arnold.
Dexter then continued his conversation with Larry by asking, âWhere is Summer now?â
âSheâs settled in one of Arnoldâs residences, appearing to be in good spirits.â
âJust keep watching.â
After Dexter hung up the phone, Josie was still confused. She simply sat down and mused, âSummer is not the biological daughter of the Olsen family. She was very sensitive about this status, but by that time, I had already left Wavery. Why didnât she fight for it anymore? Why did she let Laura and her family dominate?â
Zach was indeed capable of enduring humiliation for the sake of a higher objective.
Dexter patiently explained, âShe has no reputation. She wonât gain more by staying in the Olsen family. Your fatherâ¦â
He paused before continuing, âMark canât endure any flaws.â
âI believe that if given a choice, Summer would not have sided with Arnold.â
âCould there be a possibility that she had some leverage over him?â
Josie made a bold assumption, and quickly, something else came to her mind. âThatâs right. Rachel was with you initially. Where did she go afterward?â
When Rachel was mentioned, Dexterâs expression was unreadable. âSheâs gone.â
âHuh?â
âSomeone had let her out during the shift change, and her whereabouts remain unknown to this day.â
At this point, Dexterâs voice had a hint of regret. âBut what I can confirm is that she indeed leaked the initial exposure of Edwardâs location.â
Josie had an unsettling premonition. âSo, itâs quite possible that Rachel is still working for Arnold?â
Dexter gave a slight nod. âAbout this matter, I apologize. It was me who didnât-â
Josie raised her hand before he could finish his sentence. âMy punishment for her has already ended. I donât want to know what happened afterward, and you canât blame yourself, either.â
She still drew a clear distinction between personal and official affairs.
The two were engaged in conversation, positioned just opposite Morganâs residence. They happened to catch sight of him, bare- chested, as he moved from his room to the balcony, stretching languidly.
Their six eyes met, and then everything came to an abrupt halt.
âAre you all out of your minds?â Morgan exclaimed as he woke up to the sight of them. âItâs so early, and youâre already sitting here, basking in the sun?â He couldnât help but curse out loud.
Josie couldnât help but laugh. âDude, itâs already ten oâclock. The sun is high up in the sky.â
Morganâs mouth twitched, and he quickly grabbed a jacket to put on. âYou guys werenât just sitting here waiting for me to wake up, were you?â
Heâs crazy⦠Dexter was the first to stand, returning to the room, while Josie, supporting Paul, also slowly made her way back.
âHey!â Morgan cried out in helpless fury.
