It was probably evening when a person suddenly arrived at Keller Group, seeking Lachlan directly.
When Josie heard the news, she was in the middle of a meeting in the conference room. She looked up just in time to see Arnold passing by. His bright attire was flamboyantly conspicuous. It was undoubtedly him.
âYou two carry on. Iâll step out for a bit,â Josie said anxiously as she hurried out.
As she stepped out, the door to Lachlanâs office had just been closed.
âMr. Mills, what brings you here unexpectedly? You should have informed me in advance.â Lachlan smoothly extended his hand, quickly instructing his secretary to prepare coffee.
Arnold shook hands with him, a hint of insincerity in his gesture. âLetâs check on the progress of the design plans.â
Arnold didnât quite understand, nodding with a smile. Lachlan was unaware of Arnoldâs past. He only knew that Arnold was then a prominent figure in Rivodia, and naturally, he had to treat Arnold well.
âThe design blueprint for La Oriele was overseen by Keller Groupâs design director, Alice. With her involved, you can rest assured.â
The two sat facing each other. Lachlan was taken aback as he saw a hint of disdainful amusement on Arnoldâs face. âItâs precisely because sheâs here that I canât be at ease,â Arnold said.
Lachlan didnât react in time. Arnold leaned in slightly and added, âI heard that you, Mr. Keller, and this design director have a close personal relationship. Is there something hidden behind this?â
Lachlan was a businessman. Upon discerning the implied meaning behind the words, he promptly said, âMy relationship with Alice is purely based on admiration, and our ability to converse well privately, which is why we are close. Her success today is entirely due to her own abilities. Thereâs nothing fishy going on.â
Arnold, however, was relentless. âDuring her two years in Sumanthova, it seemed you were always flying there.â
Hearing that, Lachlan was reminded of Dexterâs instructions and could only shake his head. âItâs all in the past.â
Arnold only stayed for a few minutes. When he walked out of the office, he happened to see Josie waiting at the door. He then raised an eyebrow and asked, âAlice, you seem free. Are you not busy?â
Lachlan looked surprised. âAlice, what are you doing hereâ¦â
Josie glared fiercely at Arnold, then took his hand and started walking away. The latter didnât dodge, allowing her to lead him. Lachlan, witnessing this scene, stood frozen in his tracks. They seem to have a close relationship with each other.
Once they reached a secluded corner, Josie got straight to the point by asking, âWhat brought you here?â
Arnold was half-leaning against the window, flexing his wrist. âJust checking on your work progress. Are there any issues?â
âYou never even set foot in my office.â
Josie knew exactly what he was thinking, and she felt helpless. âI canât obtain any more information at the moment. If I do it too frequently, Dexter will start suspecting me!â
âJosie, one of my men has died in Southern Wavery,â Arnold stated bluntly.
Josie clenched her fists. âWhat do you mean?â
âWhy arenât you asking me how he died? You donât seem surprised at all.â Arnold watched her reaction leisurely. âYou knew all along?â
Josie raised an eyebrow, striving to keep her cool. âDonât go mad at me here. Iâm simply not interested in you as a person.â
Arnold nodded, a sudden realization dawning on him. âYou think of a solution. I need to see my father.â
Josie was incredulous. âI implore you to understand that Iâm not one of the higher-ups. Iâm just a worker. Where would I get any authority?â
Arnold confidently pulled out a transparent plastic bag filled with tablets from his pocket and placed it in front of her.
âYou will have it.â
Josie was trembling slightly. Those are Popâs medicationsâ¦
Arnold moved closer to her, placing the pills in her hand. âA reward from last time.â
âOnce the matter is settled today, I gave you more medicine.â
