In just one night, Josie completed the tender proposal. Early the next morning, she drove to Lachlanâs company.
The air was exceptionally fresh in the early morning. As she stepped outside, she noticed the front door of the mansion across the street was wide open. It seemed as if someone had already moved in. However, she didnât pay much attention to it.
âThereâs no issue with the contents of the tender proposal. Iâve always had faith in your abilities. But the tender doesnât start until three days from now, so why are you in such a rush?â Lachlan asked after reading it.
Josie gave a bitter smile. âIs it that obvious?â
âThe content here is too aggressive. Itâs not your style.â
Josie didnât respond directly. âPerhaps I was too anxious for success, desperately wanting to make a name for myself.â
âThis isnât like you. What happened?â Lachlan remarked calmly.
In Josieâs mind, she was thinking that Paul couldnât afford to wait for three days, so she had to act as quickly as possible.
Upon returning to Keller Group two years later, Josie stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, only then realizing that she could see Bastille Groupâs skyscraper from her vantage point.
Lachlan followed her gaze and said, âWhat happened to Bastille Group was a pity. They eventually fell into decline.â
After looking at it, Josie figured that Morganâs biggest mistake was allowing foreign investment, which led to the gradual erosion of his stake in the company. However, from her perspective, Morgan didnât seem like the kind of person who could make such a decision.
After leaving Keller Group, Josie made a phone call. Outside, a black Porsche had pulled up. As the car window rolled down, it revealed Dexterâs face, just as she expected.
Nevertheless, the call had already connected. Arnold spoke in a hoarse voice, as if he had been awakened by her. âWhatâs the matter, Ms. Warren?â
âStart the tender early. I want to participate.â
Taken aback for a moment, Arnold chuckled softly, âYou really do act like a daughter of an elite family, donât you? Do you think you can just simply demand it to be held earlier?â
Dexter sat in the back seat, holding a bag of breakfast. He mouthed the words, âLatte or milk?â
âMy words donât carry any weight, but yours do,â Josie said as she sat down, choosing the latte.
Arnold rolled over in bed. âWhy should I take orders from you?â
Josie countered, âWhere are you now?â
âHarringsay Building C,â he replied.
âTime to get up. Iâll be there soon.â
After hanging up the phone, Josie looked at Dexter. âWhy are you here? Didnât we agree that I would go alone?â
He handed her a sandwich, dodging the question. âI made it with strawberry jam. Give it a try.â
Josie truly couldnât imagine him making breakfast⦠She asked skeptically, âYou wouldnât lace it with poison, would you?â
He raised an eyebrow. âMy daughter is at home, enjoying another sandwich buttered with chocolate.â
Only then did she take it.
Meanwhile, Moses drove them to Harringsay Building C.
After finishing her breakfast, Josie dusted her hands, feigning indifference as she said, âWhat, donât you trust me? Youâve gone to great lengths to follow me around.â
âI find it hard to be at ease when the one I care for is being sent into the lionâs den.â He was indeed straightforward.
Josie pursed her lips. She hadnât expected that after two years, Dexter had learned how to sweet talk.
When they arrived at their destination, he opened the car door and said, âIâll wait for you outside. If you donât come out in twenty minutes, Iâll come in to find you.â
âDonât,â she replied, aware that everything would be ruined the moment he entered.
As Josie gracefully disappeared into the residential area, Moses couldnât help but worry. âMr. Russell, should we let her go in alone? What if Arnold has ulterior motives towards herâ¦.
Dexterâs expression remained indifferent, radiating a confident triumph. âArnold lost the battle for Josieâs heart two years ago.
Upon reaching Arnoldâs place, Josie knocked on the door. As expected, Arnold had just woken up, his eyes still blurry from sleep. Leaning against the doorframe, he raised an eyebrow and said, âItâs only eight oâclock.â
Josie walked straight into his place, a room permeated with the smell of alcohol.
