Justin sat motionless on the ground, unaware of how long the standoff had lasted. Paulâs voice echoed from behind him, âWhy are they arguing?â
The nurse didnât dare to speak again.
Finally, Justin regained his composure and stood up. He asked directly, âHave you reconciled with Dexter?â
Surprised, Josie replied, âNo.â
âIn that case, how would he know where I was and send someone to rescue me?â Justin was still unaware of the chip that Dexter had implanted in his body, nor did he know that Dexter had been secretly protecting him from danger.
Josie struggled to describe their relationship. She found herself unable to answer many questions. However, Justin understood just by looking at her expression.
With a scoff, she said, âHe truly is a hopeless romantic.â
As Justin stood up, Josie noticed his injured leg. He was limping, clearly having suffered a great deal. âHow did you find Paul? Youâve also met Arnold, right? Did he give you a hard time?â
âArnold?â Justin scoffed again. âHeâs an even bigger hopeless romantic.â
Josie found his words inexplicably amusing.
When Justinâs identity was revealed, Arnold arrived. Upon seeing Justin, he didnât cause any trouble. With an icy demeanor, he remarked, âAh, itâs my brother-in-law. In that case, lock him up with Paul. They can watch out for each other.â
After Justin finished speaking, he asked in a peculiar tone, âJust how many people am I a brother-in-law to, really?â
Josie could hardly contain her desire to kill Arnold. âDexter indeed provided significant assistance. Given the current chaos in Rivodia, unless absolutely necessary, you should avoid making your presence known.â
However, Justin felt insulted by her expression of concern. âWhat do you mean? Do you think we should just let it go? Iâll say it again. He harmed my biological father. My father has suffered so much, so I must make them pay!â
âHow?â she asked.
Justinâs stream of profanities abruptly ceased, leaving him standing there, dumbfounded.
âBesides knowing that the other party is Arnold, what else do you know? Mr. Dalton? Now that La Oriele has been burned down, do you plan to charge at them with a knife?â Every question Josie posed was a genuine expression of confusion, as she intended to calm him down.
Justin responded even more vehemently, âWhat are you implying? Are you scared, or do you want to play the role of a pampered rich girl? Afraid that all of this will ruin your life, is that it?â
âIâve never been afraid!â Josie said earnestly. âWhat I mean is, you should focus on your recovery first. You donât need to involve yourself in this anymore. Let me handle it.â
âWhat?â He asked softly.
âThis time, I came to play the role of a strategist. Have you forgotten? Iâm a master of revenge.â
The animosity Justin had harbored over the past two years couldnât simply be ignored. When Josie left the hospital, Mosesâ car was already parked by the roadside. As she opened the car door, she was immediately greeted by a familiar figure.
It was unknown when Dexter had arrived. He was sitting by the window, his arm resting on the windowsill, a cigarette burning between his fingers.
Grape lay nearby, her expression calm.
âShe woke up too early, walked for a bit, then got tired. She fell asleep again,â he explained softly, extinguishing his cigarette. Josie asked cautiously, âWhen did you arrive?â
Dexter grabbed a bottle of disinfectant and sprayed it on his hand, which had just been holding a cigarette. âIt wonât be much longer,â he said.
Josie fell silent, contemplating his words.
âWhy didnât you inform Justin that you went to Sumanthova specifically because you had a lead on Paul? If you had told him, he wouldnât resent you as much,â Dexter said, revealing that he had arrived early and overheard part of the conversation.
Josie took a deep breath, considering her response. âIn the end, I didnât find Paul, so it would seem like Iâm just making excuses if I tried to explain.â
