Josieâs reaction was minimal. She calmly picked up the flight ticket and said, âI must go.â
âJosie!â Morgan couldnât help but roar in a hushed voice. His fists clenched and relaxed. âIs it too much for you to stay by my side? Do you know how many women long to share my bed and become Mrs.
Bastille?â
Even he was somewhat surprised by his own words once they were spoken. He wanted to take them back, but it was too late. However, Josie was not angry.
âI understand.â
Words escaped Morgan.
âBack then, I didnât sleep with you, and I wonât in the future either.â Josie put the flight ticket into her bag. âThank you for all your help. Without you, my plan wouldnât have gone so smoothly.â
She was so polite and courteous that helplessness overwhelmed Morgan. Since her plan had ended, it was as if she had lost her soul. She was like a living corpse, devoid of any emotions towards anyone.
âJo⦠Thatâs not what I meant. I just want you to stay. Why canât you understand that? Regardless of whether itâs Justin or Paul, I can find a way to locate them for you.â
âBut I donât want to rely on anyone anymore.â
Her eyes were clear and transparent, devoid of anything else. Seeing that, Morgan was momentarily taken aback.
âPlease drop me off up ahead.â
For a moment, Ryan didnât know whose orders to follow, as Morgan looked up and commanded, âDonât stop.â
âMorgan,â Josie started. âIf you donât stop, Iâll jump out of the car.â
That left Morgan speechless.
Josie continued, âIf you dare to imprison me, I have a thousand ways to end my own life. Youâre welcome to try.â
Her determination to leave stabbed Morgan unexpectedly, leaving him almost unable to breathe. âDoes it really have to be this way?â
As the vehicle moved along, the scenery outside the window swiftly passed by. Josie locked eyes with him. âActually, you donât need me as much as you think.â
After exiting the overpass, the car abruptly stopped by the roadside. Josie stepped out of the vehicle without looking back.
Morgan watched her gradually receding figure through the rearview mirror. She was so slender and fragile that it was as if a gust of wind could break her.
When she blended in with the crowd, she was nothing more than an ordinary woman. Yet, the impression she had left on him over the years was particularly unique.
Unable to contain himself, Ryan asked, âWhy didnât you keep her here?â
Morganâs head throbbed faintly. âI canât hold on to her anymore.â
The next day, Josie went to the airport.
Wavery was the state capital of that state, and the airport was always crowded, with people arriving and departing.
Everyone was in a hurry, each person with their own story.
Josie stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at planes taking off and landing in the foggy air.
There was still an hour left before boarding. Holding her boarding pass, she occasionally glanced back, seemingly anticipating something or someone.
Suddenly, a voice rang out from behind her. âJosie.â
Her brows furrowed, and she turned around with a hint of surprise, only to be met with an unfamiliar face. It was a middle-aged man, well-dressed in business attire. He was walking towards her.
âYou are?â
âYou might not remember me, but Iâm Nathan Olsen. According to the familial hierarchy, you should address me as your uncle.â
Nathan Olsen⦠Markâs younger brother? Then, I should indeed address him as my uncle.
âUmâ¦â
âYou really donât remember me, do you? When you were young, I used to carry you and often take you out to play. Do you remember?â
Josie went silent and strained her memory. It seemed there was such a person, but the memory had become very faint.
âDo you need something from me?â As she posed that question, she glanced behind him but saw no one else.
