Laura was taken aback by her determination, momentarily speechless. Josie was the first to break the silence, asking with a smile, âAre you content with your current situation?â
Laura glanced unconsciously at Zach, who was smoking outside. âWell, at the very least, itâs fulfilling.â
âThatâs good. I hope the Olsen family can provide you with a sense of fulfillment instead of self-denial.â
Josie propped her head up. âIâm happy for you, as it seems youâre no longer held back by Zach.â
Laura didnât argue, as it was the truth.
âBack then, I was deeply grateful to you for saving me.â
When Josie heard that, mixed emotions stirred within her, and for a moment, she was unsure how to reveal the truth to Laura.
Since Zach wasnât Markâs biological child, it was foreseeable that most of the familyâs future assets wouldnât be handed over to Laura.
âIf youâre enjoying your life now, Laura, continue on that path. Donât become too consumed by winning.
Live in the present and donât push yourself too hard.â
Laura didnât understand. âWhy are you suddenly saying all this?â
Josie didnât know how to explain, so she simply said, âIâm leaving.â
âWhere are you going?â
âLeaving Wavery.â
âMoving to another city?â Lauraâs eyes widened in surprise.
âMost likely going abroad, but the final destination hasnât been decided yet.â
Laura felt puzzled but finally understood why Josie had sought her out. âButââ
âLaura,â Josie interrupted, taking an envelope out of her bag and handing it over. âAfter I leave, please take care of Mark and Claudia. Iâm not a good daughter in the traditional sense, unable to let go of the past. Please give this letter to Claudia for me.â
Laura glanced down at the cowhide envelope on the table. âMe?â
âYes. Youâre the only one I trust.â
Laura was caught off guard, a pang of sorrow hitting her. âHow long will you be gone?â
âIt could be a year or maybe two years. Or I might never return.â
If Josie couldnât find Paul, she was willing to sacrifice her own life to repay Justin.
Never?
Laura stood still, holding the envelope in her hand, captivated by the word ânever.â In that moment, she had forgotten that Josie was her friend.
Seeing Laura frozen in place, Josie stood up. She bowed slightly, a gesture of complete trust. âThank you.â Then, she walked out of the cafe.
Witnessing this, Zach raised an eyebrow in disbelief. He had initially wanted to start an argument, but seeing Josieâs fearless and unbeatable aura, he hesitated for a moment.
Just as Josie reached the road, a black Bentley slowly came to a stop in front of her. The car window rolled down, revealing Morganâs expressionless face. It was rare for him to look so serious. He glanced at her sideways. âGet in the car.â
From the corner of his eye, he saw Laura walking out of the cafe. She happened to witness the scene, causing her steps to falter, and she instinctively put the envelope she was holding into her bag.
Morgan gave her a deep, lingering look.
Josie let out an almost inaudible sigh but ultimately got into the car. Ryan drove at a breakneck speed.
âDo you need something?â
âJosie, donât assume that I will always indulge you and allow you to act recklessly.â Morganâs expression was stern, his tone equally cold.
She looked at him intently. âI donât understand.â
âWhat is this?â Morgan threw a plane ticket at her. âYouâre leaving the country?â
Josie nodded, seeing nothing wrong with it. âIs there a problem with that?â
âI remember your original plan was to settle down in Rivodia! Why are you going abroad?â Morganâs eyes practically blazed with anger.
Josie paused for a moment, then slowly said, âYou seem to know my schedule quite well.â
Morganâs anger subsided, replaced instead by irritation.
âIâm just worried about you.â
