Risking it all, she uttered those words.
Isaac was so overwhelmed by her presence that he almost took two steps back. He clutched his chest and gasped for breath, relying on someone to support him in order to remain steady.
No one had anticipated that Josie would actually go through with such a daring act.
What was even more surprising was that she had helped Dexter.
Even Larry was breaking out in a cold sweat. Josieâs aura was incredibly powerful, exuding both coolness and beauty, showing no fear towards anyone.
Looking at Dexter again, he stood under the sunlight, radiating an endless brightness. However, his complexion was terrifyingly gloomy. He didnât show the slightest hint of gratitude for Josieâs assistance, as if it meant nothing to him.
After Josie had completed everything, she finally met his gaze.
She almost let out a sigh of relief. It was then certain that Dexter would succeed as the CEO of Russell Group.
âDoes anyone else have any objections?â
Everyone remained silent, and without any agreement, they all left dejectedly. In the end, only Larry remained. Thoughtfully, he closed the door behind them.
In the conference room, only two people remained.
Josie approached Dexter steadily, extending her hand towards him. âCongratulations,â she said.
The manâs lips were somewhat dry, moving up and down as he asked, âShould I be happy?â
âWhy shouldnât you be? No matter how terrible Russell Group might be, itâs still yours. Iâve held it together for you.â
Dexterâs gaze lingered on her face, unable to look away, filled with immense affection.
Seeing him remain silent, Josie had no choice but to continue speaking on her own. âBefore my grandfather passed away, he told me to take good care of you. Naturally, I canât let you give up on yourself.â
He still remained silent.
âDonât disappoint me. Those shares are very valuable. Itâs already generous of me not to ask you for money, so make sure you manage Russell Group well,â she said.
No matter how one heard it, it sounded like a farewell.
For some reason, Dexter was almost out of breath, his breathing becoming slow.
He knew that, at that point, it was time to say goodbye. Otherwise, Josie would not have acted that way.
âDonât leave, alright? If it were the Liana of the past, she wouldnât have had the heart to leave me.â His voice was hoarse. It was as if he had exhausted all his strength to speak.
Josie lowered her eyes, trying to ignore the bitterness that welled up from the depths of her heart.
Her tone was light and breezy when she said, âIndeed, the old Liana was reluctant to let go, but youâve forgotten that Iâve spent most of my life as Josie. She has already overshadowed the traces of Liana.
And as Josie, I have reached the day where I am ready to let go.â
Dexter closed his eyes. She is Liana, but even more so, she is Josie.
She took his large hand, casually playing with it as if it were their most intimate moment.
Josieâs voice was soft when she said, âIn truth, these things were always yours. Iâve merely returned them to you, including the favor you did for me at our wedding. Now, Iâve repaid you. We owe each other nothing.â
Those words were the harshest words she could have said to him.
Dexter was trembling, unable to hold back. He swiftly grabbed her fingers, repeating, âDonât go. Without you, I am not a complete Dexter. As Liana, youâve left me once, and as Josie, you cannot leave me again.â
He had been saved twice in his lifetime.
Once, on a rainy day during their childhood, she jumped down from the car, clutching her doll, and stood before him, reaching out her hand towards him.
Another time, on a bright sunny day when they were older, he proposed to her in a cafe, a bold request.
She was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and agreed.
That smile was etched into Dexterâs life just like that.
Josieâs eyes were tinged with a hint of red as she gently let go of his hand. âTake good care of yourself.â
With that, she strode out of the conference room, not pausing or looking back.
She couldnât see, but the man standing in place seemed as if his world had crumbled. He swayed, needing to lean on the table for support. Unable to control his trembling, his tears fell heavily onto the table.
Evidently, when the world seemed like it was crumbling, even the toughest men would cry.
