Josieâs wrist throbbed with pain, but she endured it, shouting loudly, âJustin! Donât let your pride cloud your judgment!â
As he opened the door, his movements abruptly halted. He asked, âIn the end, will you return to the Olsen family?â
Before Josie could respond, Justin had already stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
Perhaps the commotion was too loud. Morgan had a bad premonition after witnessing that scene. He barged in directly. âJo!â
Josie was half-lying on the bed, her brows furrowed in pain.
Morganâs brow twitched, a pang of concern spreading through him. He stepped forward to check on her condition. âAre you alright? Did Justin upset you?â
Josie didnât let him touch her. He stood in the shadows, much like a child who had done something wrong. âIâm sorry. It was my failure to execute your plan properly that caused you harm.â
Josie raised her hand to cover her eyes, plunging herself into darkness. âAfter I left the airport, why didnât your people come to pick me up?â
âThere was an accident. Theyâve already been dealt with.â
âJustin and the others were deliberately let into the wedding venue by Dexter. Where were you at that time?â
Morgan was at a loss for words, but he quickly added, âI know that whatever I say now is pointless. All the blame lies with me. However, fortunately, the outcome is positive, isnât it? Mark is already out of danger and will wake up soon, and thenâ¦â
Before he could finish his words, he was interrupted by Josie.
âI should never have relied on anyone in the first place. This isnât your fault. Itâs mine.â She sat up, meeting his gaze. âDonât take it to heart.â
She was too calm, a tranquility that deeply unsettled Morgan. He crouched down halfway. âIf youâre angry, let it out. Hit me, scold me, do whatever you want, just donât be upset.â
Josie remained still.
Morgan approached her with longing in his eyes. âWhat are your plans after this? Will you return to the Olsen family?â
He knew clearly that Claudia and Mark were just momentarily taken aback. Under no circumstances would they abandon their own biological daughter.
Yet, as Josie stepped out of the hospital room, basking anew in the sunlight, she declared, âI am not affiliated with anyone. I am simply on my own.â
Morganâs silhouette, standing in the shadows, swayed slightly.
Outside, Calvin leaned against the wall, intending to light a cigarette, but up, his body radiating frustration.
âI must see her,â he repeated to Mallory.
âIâm not stopping you. Go ahead, tell her all your grievances. See if sheâll go with you.â Mallory wore a radiant smile.
Calvin, growing impatient, climbed up, barely holding back. âSomething has happened to Russell Group. If she doesnât meet Dexter, once her shares are acquired, she wonât have it easy.â
Ever since the shocking scandal involving Heather broke out, Mark was hospitalized, leaving the Olsen family leaderless. Their partnerships were dissolved, and Russell Group had to face not only the onslaught of negative press but also the risk of a broken capital flow.
Even within the company, there were those who watched the situation unfold covetously.
Dexterâs predicament was even more challenging than the most severe situation before. Those past few days, he had been staying day and night at Russell Group without any spare time.
If, back then, Dexter hadnât fueled the flames to complete Josieâs plan, Russell Group wouldnât have ended up in that situation.
He was fully aware of the risks he would face, yet he still chose to proceed.
He gambled his entire fortune.
Upon hearing that, Mallory showed no reaction. âIâve told you, you should speak to her yourself.â
Calvin narrowed his eyes. âShe wonât listen to me. She might only listen to you.â
Mallory wanted to say that Josie wouldnât listen to herself either, but she still smiled. âBeg me, Mr.
Barrett. When you ask for help, you should have the right attitude.â
