Chapter 127: Iâm going to prove that two people can truly love each other
âThanks, Mr. Logan. If thereâs anything else you need, just let me know,â Jessica quickly scribbled her contact information in her notebook.
She tore out the page and handed it to Logan. In his silence, she gestured for Ethan and Abigaile to leave with her.
The trio walked down the hospital corridor.
âOfficer Jessica, you must know something, right?â Ethan glared at her, initially thinking she was just into him physically.
Now it seemed she not only took advantage of him but also used him to help with her investigation.
âNot at all,â Jessica shook her head. âBut weâve got three days left. If we donât find any leads, weâll close the case as Mr. Logan sexually harassing Lily.â
She glanced towards the hospital room. âGiven Mr. Loganâs current condition, the doctors said he could die at any time without surgery. He doesnât want the surgery, probably because thereâs no one left in this world he cares about.â
Ethanâs expression darkened. He absolutely couldnât let Logan die.
The mission was still pending. If he failed, heâd lose a thousand points and a skill point.
He couldnât afford that.
âLooks like youâre really fired up, go get âem, crusader!â Jessica cheered him on with a thumbs-up. âIf you find any new leads, feel free to contact me.â
With that, she waved and turned to leave.
Ethan watched her go, his face sour.
Looks like she had him cornered.
He remembered Abigaile seemed to have something to say back in the room. He turned back, âAbby, what were you trying to say earlier?â
Abigaile had been down since they arrived, even though she came just for the entertainment.
It was like watching a tear-jerker at the movies and ending up crying in the theater.
Hearing Ethanâs question, she paused for a long time. âI donât know if Lily loves Mr. Logan, but she definitely doesnât love Kyle.â
âOh?â Ethan was curious. âHow can you tell?â
âWhen you like someone, thereâs a light in your eyes,â Abigaile pointed to her own eyes. âLilyâs gaze has been calm from the start.â
Ethan recalled his meeting with Lily, his main impression was that he was too calm.
As for the loving look Abigaile mentioned, he hadnât noticed it. âSeems like you know a lot, huh?â
Abigaile looked embarrassed and didnât respond.
Ethan didnât press further, starting to think about how to solve the current problem. Everything pointed to Logan.
He had planned to make Lily fall in love with Logan, or at least make Logan believe Lily loved him.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
But that was proving difficult.
Now, Abigaileâs judgment shook him.
Ethan looked back at Logan in the hospital room, clenched his teeth, and re-entered the room.
Logan, seeing him return, looked surprised.
âMr. Logan,â Ethan stared into his eyes. âIn three days, we should have the results, barring any surprises.â
Logan spoke after a moment of silence. âYou must have talked to him, Mr. Ethan. What did he say?â
âHe said it has nothing to do with you,â Ethan replied truthfully.
âI see,â Logan leaned back on the bed, his expression relieved. âI guess I was being delusional. A high school kid like him liking a forty-year-old man like me? Itâs unlikely. I really am disgusting.â
Logan tried to sit up, his arms weak, unable to support himself. He managed an apologetic smile, âSorry, and thank you for believing in me. It was all me, falling for someone and foolishly thinking they liked me back. I was just being a nuisance.â
âYeah, Mr. Logan, you should rest,â Ethan said, standing up. He left the room and quickened his pace towards the hospital exit.
âHey, what are you doing now?â Abigaile called out from behind.
âI believe him,â Ethan said seriously. âI believe that no matter what evidence you show a delusional person, they wonât be swayed.â
He clenched his fist. âIâm going to prove that two people can truly love each other.â
â?!â Abigaileâs confusion was clear as she quickly caught up to him. âHey, even if they really did love each other, now that Lily has denied those feelings, does it still matter?â
âIt does, of course it does!â Ethanâs expression was resolute as he headed into the underground parking lot and got into Abigaileâs car. âLetâs go, weâre heading to the convenience store where he works.â
He didnât offer any further explanation.
Because to him, with a thousand points on the line, it definitely mattered.
After a brief hesitation, Abigaile started the car, casting a curious glance at Ethan through the rearview mirror.
She saw determination in the young manâs eyes.
The idea of him selflessly running around for someone he didnât even know seemed quite romantic.
She quickly dismissed the thought and focused on driving.
Abigaile gripped the steering wheel tighter, Ethanâs determination infectious.
The car pulled up in front of the convenience store.
Ethan quickly located a coworker who worked with Logan.
âYouâre asking about Logan and Lily?â The employee blurted out upon seeing Abigaileâs striking features. âThey were always together, chatting. The manager even had to speak to them about it, right here.â
He pointed behind the counter. âTheir shifts end an hour apart, and Lily often waits around for him so they can leave together.â
âOh? And what do you think their relationship is?â Abigaile probed further.
âItâs kind ofâ¦â The male employee seemed at a loss for words. âWell, theyâre just too close.â
âSo, do you think Lily is being coerced and is actually afraid of Logan?â Abigaileâs eyes widened with surprise.
âThatâs unlikely,â the employee shrugged. âI mean, Lily always seems happy.â
âAlright, thanks,â Abigaile nodded and turned to leave.
âUm,â the employee blushed. âCould I⦠get your autograph?â
Outside the convenience store, by the street.
Ethan sat in the passenger seat, his eyes lit up as he saw Abigaile approaching and opening the door. âItâs true, there really is a problem.â
âI knew it,â Ethan shook his head. âThat cop kept hinting at me, she must have investigated this before.â
âIâve recorded our conversation just now, this can be used as evidence,â Abigaile pulled out her phone with the recording.
Ethan glanced at it and shook his head. âItâs useless, in cases like this, third-party statements are only considered as references, not conclusive evidence.â
âBut it doesnât matter,â Ethan squinted. âI just wanted to confirm my suspicions.â
âSo, what do we do now?â Abigaile frowned, and then suddenly paused.
She realized, when had she started trusting this younger guy so much?
âIâll handle it my way,â Ethan said, narrowing his eyes.
The next day.
Kyle stepped out of his car, looking menacing. âHey, kid.â
âSmack.â Ethan slapped him across the face. âWatch who youâre talking to.â
