My long sleep was interrupted by someone shaking me on my shoulders. I refuse to open my eyes to a person who is waking me up on a summer vacation. That is a sin I will not tolerate.
"Go away." I mumble, not even opening my eyes. My dream was stopped and I groan in annoyance.
"Kat, we have to go." I hear Luke's voice through the faint sound of my sheets being pulled away from me. Now that is just cruel.
"Ugh."
Some shuffling is heard afterwards before my hands and legs are grabbed and I'm lifted off the bed. I shriek and open my eyes immediately. A groan comes out of my lips as the first thing I see in the morning is Wes's face.
"Let me go! You are not allowed in my room!" I say angrily and fidget to make it harder for the boys to carry me. They bring me out of my room, away from my bed and I groan loudly.
"I know, babe." Wes says and rolls his eyes, trying to keep me steady. "Because you'd be much louder if I was allowed."
My eyes widen and I kick my foot in the air, making sure I hit him in the jaw. He groans in pain and lets go off my legs. They drop to the floor and I feel Luke release my hands so I stand up straight.
"Kat, what the fuck?!" Luke moves to face me.
"I like you, Luke, but if you bring that moron to my room again, you'll end up like him." I tell Luke and pretend to dust off some dirt from my pajamas. Just the thought of Wes seeing me in this makes me cringe and I walk over to my closet, taking out the first thing I see.
"Now, what is so urgent that I had to put a pause on the movie in my dreams?"
"You got My Little Pony on the TV, you know?"
Luke accidentally lets out a chuckle after Wes's sarcastic remark, but my glare makes him clear his throat.
"Um, we have to surprise Carter in his room." Luke answers my question and I remember it's Carter's birthday.
"Alright. Let me just get dressed."
When we enter Carter's apartment I get the urge to slap everyone who lives there, which is clearly only men considering the state of this place. Leftover pizzas and takeaway boxes are covering the kitchen counter while the couch in the sitting area is filled with clothes. I wouldn't call myself an extremely tidy person but this is something only a child would consider healthy.
Ignoring the awful scene I continue following the group, practically on my toes. They decided I just carry the cake, because apparently I am not as clumsy as them, which I tried to object but failed. I have a terrible habit of tripping over my own feet and they want me to carry this cake which feels like it weighs like a car at the moment.
Wes cracks the door of Carter's bedroom open and turns to us to make sure we're ready.
"Surprise!" We all yell at the same time and the sound of confetti popping is heard before the colorful papers fill the entire room. But a wave of silence comes over us when Carter sits up in the bed, with a curly brunette by his side.
I suspect this would be awkward, that is until everyone erupts in laughter.
"You idiots." Carter says tiredly and a smile appears on his face. Someone pushes me gently on the back and I walk over to Carter's side, placing the cake beside him.
"Happy birthday, sugar." I tell him, referring to my very first day and his immediate nickname for me. He seems to remember as he lets out a small chuckle.
"Thanks, Kat." He says.
I have no idea who organised this but when I see the present, it's no doubt it's his best friends who planned it all. Wes and Mel approach him and hand him a huge box and when he opens it, he starts a laughing fit. Inside the box is a tiny stall with probably over twenty sunglasses, all in different shapes and sizes.
We took a bus to the club. It was an idea that Hailey proposed and the guys have been calling it extraordinary ever since. The good side of that is basically that everyone will be able to drink and considering it's a birthday party, it is kind of necessary. The bad side is that nobody will be the sitter, so if all of us get drunk, who will be the one to think rationally? And considering the way my cousin is chugging that bottle, she for sure won't be.
"C'mon, Kat, another one." Carter tells me as he fills up another shot glass. I know he is persistent in getting me drunk, but we've had five and so far I don't feel a thing.
"How will I even know when I'm drunk?" I laugh before downing the liquor. It burns my throat as it passes down. Carter shakes his head at the horrific taste before leaning to answer me.
"Well for starters you will feel dizzy. But I think what comes before that is the heat, from the inside. And the noise will become faint, inaudible. But the moment you start losing balance, that's when you know you're really drunk."
"Oh and, you will probably do something you will regret." He smiles to himself, in that devilish way, and I just nod at his words.
The night starts and carries on in a natural and relaxed way. I'm glad I got to meet these people and create a connection with them. I don't know what I would be doing at home in New York right now. My friends back there are all very high-held. Their eyes only see clothes, cars and statuses. Besides my best friend Alex, there is nobody there worth staying. Of course they're all nice to me and we get along pretty well, but their way of thinking is what sets me off. And Alex is currently on a summer vacation with her family so I would probably be bored back home.
After over an hour of sitting (and drinking) and talking to Carter, Hailey pulls me away when Yeah! starts playing. I feel like a little girl again, singing all the words to this amazing song. Hailey carries me with the beat to the rhythm. As kids we used to dance to this song all the time, at every family gathering and every sleepover. It's like childhood all over again.
"So I got up and followed her to the floor." I sing to the tune and spin around, loving the beat. "She said 'baby, let's go"."
Hailey sings right after me and soon we are joined by Sarah, Jessica and Luke, who emerge from the crowd. Jessica looks like she knows exactly what she's doing, not even caring abut who's around her. The chorus takes the crowd in the club to start jumping up and down in sync.
Luke suddenly hands be a bottle of clear liquid and tells me to chug. Not even looking at the name of this liquor, I place the bottle on my lips and tilt my head back. I hear a couple cheers and claps before I swallow and back away from the bottle. I hand it back to Luke and make a disgusted face expression.
"Good job, Kat, I thought you'd bail." Jessica high fives me. My bladder starts working and signals me to relieve it from all the fluid inside.
"I have to go to the toilet." I excuse myself and make my way towards the bathrooms. They are close to the entrance so I have to pass a mass of people on the way there.
Someone bumps into me and I try to catch my balance but unfortunately land in somebody's arms. I look up to see a very handsome boy looking down at me, as if I've fallen from the sky.
The moment you start losing balance...
"Hey there, gorgeous, you alright?" He asks and steadies me to face him. He has mesmerizing eyes and I can't help but enjoy the cologne he has on.
"I'm fine. Thanks for catching me." I wink playfully, not being able to help myself. I don't get to see a lot of guys like him, almost perfect like. I move to walk past him but he grabs my waist from one side and leans into my hair, his hot breath reaching my ear.
"My pleasure." He murmurs and my feet seem to sink into the floor. He backs away and slowly, but teasingly, lets go off me.
I gaze at him for a second or so before turning to face the direction I was heading at. The vibration of the music seems to be much louder but the words of the song that's playing are not completely understandable. I grab the temples of my head to try and somehow fix the noise but it doesn't help and I continue to hear only murmurs and deep sounds.
The noise will become faint, inaudible.
I shake my head and focus to where the bathrooms are. At this point my bladder is almost bursting.
I walk into the women's bathroom and notice a couple girls fixing their makeup or their hair. I walk past them and straight into an open stall. The moment I take off my red dress and sit down, I let out a long breath that's been waiting to be released. I've been feeling hot all the way here. Once I'm finished I pull up my dress, but manage to hit the wall on my right in the meantime. It takes me a couple minutes to zip it, since the zipper is on my back, and I'm only able to pull it halfway, but ignore it nevertheless. I try to open the door but I realise I have missed the door knob. The feeling of a rollercoaster starts to wash over me and I furrow my eyebrows as I continue to try and grab the knob.
You will feel dizzy. What comes before that is the heat, from the inside.
I manage to open the door and get out, luckily having the strength to wash my hands. I look in the mirror to see that my red lipstick is still intact except my hair is not so straight anymore. I try to brush it out using my hair, but seeing how pointless it is, I give up. The deep music is still heard when I step outside the bathroom. I reach a corner and make a step to walk ahead, but someone grabs my waist and pulls me aside, making my back clash against the wall. The impact is barely noticeable and once I regain my balance I open my eyes only to see the ones of the boy who caught me previously.
He is now dangerously close to me and he is still leaning closer, his hands tightly gripping my waist.
"You know." He says into my ear, his voice being the only noise I can hear right now. "I've never had someone fall into my arms and now."
He stops, planting a hot kiss on my neck, making my legs weak at the contact. His hand starts making its way down my back, very slowly.
"Now I want to take that chance." He says before grabbing my butt and crashing his lips onto mine. My hand immediately reaches out to his hair and I tug on it lightly, just as his tongue meets mine. A burning sensation fills my body and I try to bring his body to mine as close as possible.
His hands easily swivel around my waist and my curves, making me breath harder at every touch. He lifts up one of my legs, placing it by his side and squeezing my outter thigh. My arms go around his neck and down his shirt, feeling his abs through it.
"Kat!" I hear someone call my name and in a second I am pulled away from the hold of that glorious boy. And as I stare at his eyes, trying to remember them, my vision flashes black and all the noise goes quiet.
Oh and, you will probably do something you will regret.
