Kathy silently watched his massive back and her eyes started to become reddened.
He wouldnât let anything happen to her...
However, he was no longer by her side. How could he still protect her?
They were two people who were separated forever. She didnât want to rely on him anymore considering the circumstances.
âI will wait here until the day breaks.â Kathy stubbornly said while turning around to face away from him.
An intense anger caught on Josephâs face, âThere is going to be a thunderstorm later on. Do you realize how dangerous it will be if you continue to stay here?â
âWho do you think you are? Why do you think that your opinion matters to me?â Kathy was suddenly infuriated as well. She stared at him without blinking.
After hearing that, Joseph narrowed his eyes before suddenly dashing forward without warning and trapping Kathyâs fragile frame in his embrace.
He held the back of her head and started to kiss her furiously.
Kathy was rooted to the spot while her heart was in a mess. Joseph continued to hug her hard, and all she could smell was a familiar scent from long ago.
It was Josephâs unique scent.
Her lips had long gotten used to his kissing, so they responded to his kiss without any problems.
Despite that, she wanted to reject him entirely.
She didnât want this relationship to continue as they were now.
She finally came to her sense as she bit hard on his tongue.
Joseph let out muffled grimace and his face took on a hideous and terrifying expression.
She was so bold to the point that she would even bite him!
âJoseph, youâve gone too far!â
âWhat if... I want to go this far?â He replied hastily and immediately pressed his lips onto hers again while ignoring the pain in his tongue.
Kathy was conscious about the wound in his mouth, and she couldnât bring herself to bite him anymore...
This man really knew her well and could capture her weakness...
Her breath was completely taken away as Kathy couldnât even stand properly at that moment. She could only lean against Josephâs body.
âKathy, always remember that Iâm your man.â His cold voice sounded next to her ears.
Kathy smiled faintly and doled out a reply, âJoseph, are you trying to bully me?â
âYes.â He didnât shy away from admitting his intentions, and his mischievous hands were even starting to grope her body below her waist.
A strange numbing sensation permeated through her body, and Kathy could only grip hard on his arms.
âJoseph! Donât fool around!â She was finally angry.
He flashed a lowly smile before bending over to signal her to ride on his back.
âCome on up. Iâll give you a piggy ride all the way there.â
Kathy was initially still in a quandary, but suddenly a strike of lighting dyed the sky white. It was a signal to announce the coming of a storm.
She immediately hugged Joseph while placing her had against his shoulders. At that moment, her heart was strangely calm, which was very unusual.
âMy simcard has been taken away some time ago. How did you know that I would be here?â Kathy asked.
âIâve checked Bertieâs location.â
Kathy finally understood everything.
At the mention of Bertie, she suddenly wondered that was he still in the hills?
When she had fallen down earlier on, the ground was so shaky that the original path was practically destroyed.
Nonetheless, she didnât have any intention to care about him.
After reaching the stairs, Kathy began, âYou can let me down now. I can still walk by myself.â
âDonât be stubborn.â Joseph didnât plan to put her down.
At that moment, an imperceptible noise began to become clear as something was approaching them from a distance away. The rescue workers had arrived.
This sudden thunderstorm had caused many parts of the hill to collapse and incited landslides all over the vicinity. A lot of travelers were trapped because of that, but they were now being rescued one after another.
Joseph placed Kathy on a stretcher but he didnât let go of her hands for even one. He just silently stayed by her side.
Kathy couldnât shake off his hand so she had no choice but to let him hold her hand.
Her field of vision was filled by Josephâs slender figure. He was bearing a serious yet worried expression on his face.
He was obviously worried about her.
Kathy flashed a smile without any thoughts. She thought that this was all that mattered.
When they reached the foot of the hill, they saw a few ambulances being parked on standby. Suddenly, a figure flashed by, and Kathy somehow caught a sight of Bertie.
There was a bandage on his arm indicating that he had a minor injury. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with him.
On the other hand, Kathyâs condition was way worse.
âKathy.â He looked at her worriedly.
Bertie only detected Josephâs presence after saying that.
His face underwent a drastic change. Why was he here?
âLet me accompany you to the hospital.â
Joseph inadvertently interrupted him, âMr. Marshall, you have some injury on you. It wouldnât be convenient for you to tag along.â
After saying that, he swiftly entered an ambulance with Kathy.
Bertie didnât hesitate as he followed them too. He sat next to Kathy.
The two men were surrounding her from both sides, which made her feel slightly numb.
However, she didnât have any strength to shun them away.
When they arrived at the hospital, Kathy was immediately sent to a consultation room to deal with her wounds.
Joseph and Bertie were standing outside the room together.
âIf I recall correctly, you should be now divorced with Kathy, Joseph.â Bertieâs cold voice sounded.
âSo what? When something bad happened to Kathy, where were you?â Josephâs sharp gaze penetrated Bertie.
He knew that the both of them had ascended the hill together, but Kathy was discovered alone.
Bertie pressed his lips into a line while recalling Kathy falling down the hill. If it were not for the fact that his pathway was broken up by a depression in the ground, he would have followed and chased after her.
It was just that...
A glint of regret flashed across his eyes as he replied in a low voice, âI have been looking for her too.â
Joseph continued to put on a cold façade. He never saw eye to eye with Bertie in the first place.
Shortly after, the door to the consultation room was pushed open from the inside. The doctor emerged and asked, âWhoâs the family member here?â
âMe.â Joseph stepped forward without any hesitation.
âThere are multiple wounds on the patientâs body but Iâve already treated them. She needs to spend the night in the hospital today.â
Joseph managed a response while entering the room.
Bertie stared at him moving around and his face gradually darkened.
Kathy was transferred to a ward and she didnât have a mobile phone with her at that moment. She had no way of contacting anybody.
Seeing Joseph coming over, she asked, âCan you lend me your phone?â
She wanted to ask Alexia to come fetch her tomorrow.
âYou have lost your phone?â Joseph couldnât help but frown.
Kathy simply nodded.
Joseph first made a call to John to comb the hill thoroughly to recover Kathyâs phone before handing his phone to her.
âYouâll have to excuse me.â Kathy said indifferently.
She called Alexia and filled her in with her current situation.
âKathy, youâre still in Country B? I thought that you have already returned... Iâll come to the hospital now.â Alexia replied nervously.
âCome tomorrow. Itâs too late at night now.â
âI canât wait any longer. I am really worried about you. Why did you go up that hill? Youâre giving me a heart attackâ Alexia began to nag.
After hanging up the phone, Kathy looked up and saw that Joseph was scrutinizing her.
She returned his phone to him.
âIâll go back with you tomorrow.â He stated with his low voice.
âI need to sleep now, Joseph. Thank you for saving my life today.â Kathy didnât know how to face him at the moment, so she didnât provide a clear cut answer. She turned off the lights and feigned sleep.
Joseph was standing rooted to the spot by the bed, and there was a vague incomprehensible look in his eyes.
After some time, Kathy felt him sitting down on the edge of the bed.
The distance separating them was now very small... they were just a small distance apart.
Joseph was just right there beside her, so there was no way she could fall asleep peacefully.
When she opened her eyes to check, Kathy met his depthless eyes that were shining like obsidian.
âYou should go back to rest.â She muttered imperceptibly.
âI didnât book any hotel room.â
Kathy was speechless for a moment.
âAre you planning to sleep here for the night?â

âYes.â
After saying that, Kathyâs stomach suddenly made a grunting sound. She was immediately embarrassed.
She recalled now that breakfast was her only meal throughout the whole day.
