Immortals ~ Fall Out Boy

————————————

My eyes open swiftly, the weight behind them heavier than usual. I'd found myself falling asleep in classes again, one moment awake, the next lying face down on the desk with no explanation. As if my body had warned me, the teacher orders us to pack our things as the bell rings for lunch.

"Hey gorgeous!" A familiar, sweet-sounding voice shouts from behind me as I walk through the school corridor, practically sprinting so I can get my daily dose of food before the cafeteria runs out.

Ashton smiles as he runs down the corridor to catch me, pushing a small, tanned freshman out of his way as he reaches me. His brown hair was now a sexy mess, with small strands on top of his head sticking up daftly. With one quick motion he calms his crazy head of hair and flashes me his signature grin.

"I've missed you.." He mumbles as he leans in for an uninvited kiss. Butterflies fly up and down my stomach as he places his hand on my lower back. Instinctively I flinch at his touch, surprised at how forward he was being in front of everyone. I was still getting used to it after all and Ashton wasn't exactly one for being affectionate in public.

"I saw you two hours ago..." I laugh, once again getting cut-off by a soft kiss from Ashton. This new attention caught me off-guard, but I couldn't help the goosebumps and smile that snuck across my face.

"That's too long for me to wait." He grins, wrapping his arm around me as we continued to walk down the corridor for our weekly lunch. I couldn't help but giggle at his romantic actions, it wasn't like him - usually he was the 'cool jock' that loved the girl's attention. Yet all of a sudden he seemed settled around me.

"Cece!" I could hear Amy shriek from behind me. "Wait up!" She shouted as she shoved her tiny height through the crowd of sweaty high-schoolers. In record time she found herself nearing us, a giant smile plastered across her freckles.

I notice Ashton rolling his eyes as I softly giggle to myself - he wasn't fond of Amy. I found this hilarious since she was one of my best friends, and best friends and boyfriends not getting along always created drama. I had too admit though, I lived for drama. Name a teenage girl that didn't?

"Can I borrow her for a minute?" Amy smiles at me, showing off her large grin as her natural ginger hair curled around her face. Obviously, she was just looking to annoy Ash, something she swore she would do from the day we started dating.

She succeeded.

Him, being the genius that he was - didn't notice. This was the 'Jock' part of him coming through. My boyfriend was such a damn stereotype. All that was needed was for him to secretly be sleeping with the cheerleaders. But lucky for me, I'd gotten myself an alpha male teen who knew I was his.

"Just remember that when you borrow, it usually comes with the intention of giving back." He looks me directly in the eye. Unfortunately, I was the same height as him which meant no heels at parties or his manhood would be insulted. Ashton quickly leans over and me gives a small peck on the check before running after one of his friends.

"I love you." He shouts and waves to me. As his words hit me, everything seems to freeze as his words echo, but it's not his voice I can hear. Thinking nothing of it, I blush a bright red before hiding my face behind my dark hair. I notice a short haired-blond making a weird face as she listens in to our conversation, girls like this only seemed to have one emotion.

"I love you more." I shout back, knowing he wouldn't get to speak to me until after lunch. I had to admit, having someone get upset for not being able to speaking to me was cool. Yeah...I kinda loved it, especially the attention from a boy.

Amy, who must've thought she was doing a 100m sprint with me quickly grabs my hand and pulls me in the direction of the cafeteria. I was refreshing to see her slightly happier again after the rough time she'd been through.

She practically drags me through the crowd of maybe seven-hundred which made up our high school, and in less than two seconds we made it into the hall for lunch. She wasn't even the food-orientated one in my group.

We make it over to our small table in the middle of the hall and sit contently with our lunches. My mind is troubled however as I cannot recall going to sleep.

"We need to discuss our plans." Amy laughs excitedly, her long red hair bobbling up and down as she claps her hands. Her face then turns a slight shade of pink due to her light complexion. Her green eyes glow as her excitement grows.

"What plans?" I laugh, knowing shes completely and utterly bonkers. But that was why I loved her so much.

I suddenly get chills and I'm forced to swallow hard. The thought of her even mentioning my birthday makes me sick to the stomach and I can't work out why. "Your seventeenth birthday plans!" She almost screams at me, her grin as wide as it can be.

My entire body feels on edge as she mentions my seventeenth, my toes curl and I shiver as though a bad memory comes to mind. Yet I have none to think of. No bad experiences with anyone seventeen or the number.

Amy looked so happy with herself that I couldn't be mad at her, she would break if I was. Like a beautiful skilled piece of ice, one crack would cause her to crumble. She was the type of person that tried to make everything perfect, including herself.

She hated criticism and for that, I loved her even more. She was so delicate and soft, I never wanted the opportunity to hurt or break her. Although, with enough practise and dedication, Ice sculptures could be rebuilt.

"We have exactly one week to plan something huge for you, not everyone gets to their seventeenth you know." She laughs, "I personally believe it is the best birthday of all time. After all, sixteenths and eighteens are heavily celebrated as being milestones, why should seventeen be any different?"

She grabs my hand from across the table and squeezes it tightly. It seems so familiar yet so distant.

I keep a hidden sigh to myself. I'd told both Amy and Em that I wanted it to be just us, something simple and fun where we could watch mean girls or titanic or something. Something where we could sit and cry, but not at the fact that Jack died, but Leo was now too old for our generation.

But because of Amy being a year younger, she saw this huge hype about being seventeen. I couldn't blame her, she still had a few weeks until she even turned 16. When she would be told she was an adult yet would be treated as though she wasn't a day past eight.

"What do you have planned?" I ask carefully, narrowing my eyes at my suspicious friend, all while trying smiling at her enthusiasm to make me happy. She was determined I'd give her that.

It was at this point that Em turned up with a very healthy selection of fruit for her lunch. This was very strange of her because Em never ate healthily. I'm not sure if she even knew how to spell the word - actually, that wasn't true. Em happened to be the smartest person I'd ever met.

"What's that for?" I ask, pointing at the strange selection she had picked for her lunch. Usually she had 2 full bars of chocolate but annoyingly she was the skinniest of us all. It was like she was enjoying life while it lasted, and I couldn't do anything but applaud her for it.

But damn people with good metabolism.

"Your birthday Party next week." She rolls her eyes, shoving a strawberry in her mouth while hating every moment of it. It was probably the first time she was tasting anything that was on her plate. Her reactions were priceless, she scrunched up her dark eyes every time she ate a strawberry.

"I'm planning on loosing a few pounds for it." She continues, following by eating a piece of orange which by her facial expressions, was the worst thing she'd ever eaten in her life. "See, in this day and age everyone's fussy about being skinny, but not too skinny, but you gotta be a little toned too." She sighs.

"Please just send me back to the damn olden days where I could eat whatever I wanted without being reminded at how many calories were in it."

I burst out laughing, Em's facial expressions were too much. But if she lost anymore weight she'd probably be classified as unhealthy, she really looked perfect the way she was. Even Amy, whom was smaller and rounder than both Em and me.

I grab a strawberry from her plate. Fast enough to hope she doesn't notice.

"Oi!" She shouts at me, slapping my hand away as I attempt to steal another. Amy and I began failing about in laughter at how protective she was over her food, even if she hated it. It must've been an instinct.

"You..hate...fruit." Amy muttered out, still laughing heavily and struggling to talk. Her face going bright red...it was the ginger in her, she was pretty much choking on air.

"Maybe you were starved in another life?" I joke, but Em just glares at me and crosses her arms. I take to opportunity, and swap my tray for Em's - giving her my burger which I hadn't even began eating.

She looks at it like it's prey, ready to pounce at it at any second. A giant grin on her face.

"Cece? Why do you have to make my life so difficult?" She turns to me, "there's nothing wrong with me loosing a little bit of weight." She smirks, almost not believing herself.

"Trust me Emmaline, you really don't."  I assure her - eating the fruit that now belonged to me. As soon as I'd said this, she devoured my burger as though she'd never seen food before. I'm surprised she didn't choke and die at the rate she was devouring it.

Once again, Amy and I ended up in a fit of laughter. Em joined in while shoving my burger down her throat. It really was a fascinating sight.

"Have we discussed whats happening next week yet?" Em spoke, with half a burger in her mouth.

"We were just getting to that." Amy

replies, taking a small handful of chips from her plate to eat. The excitement in her voice was showing clearly but I also caught a glimpse of fear.

"You know how my parents and sister are out for two days next week?" She continues while munching on her lunch. "Well I figured we could have a party at my house for you.."

"We know that you really didn't want it." Em spoke this time," but damn Cece you deserve it...so if you don't specifically want it - I'll happily take it as mine." She smiles as she speaks with her 'sarcastic voice.'

This was why they were my best friends.

I quickly glance over at Ashton, who waves happily over at me. I could tell he was still annoyed about not eating lunch with me though. But boys would be boys.

"You guys mean the world to me, you know that."  I swallow as I went to hug the two most important people in my whole life across the table, probably knocking something over in the process.

"We know" they both said at identical times, smiling happily at me at they sat back down to finish their lunch. As I sat, I couldn't hide from the fear that was building up in my stomach, the crawling of my skin as the days to my birthday drew nearer.

All I could do, was hope was that I was just being paranoid.

Thanks for reading this  first chapter, yeah I know it's kinda boring but I wanted to introduce some of the characters without confusing everyone.

Anyway I just want to say thanks for clicking on my book, it means a lot to me, and this is my first werewolf book so yeah, I'm very inexperienced.

Re-readers looking at edited stuff, hey there...let me know what you think. There is TONS of foreshadowing so let me see if you catch on :)
