Matthew, seated in the car, turned his attention to the commotion outside.

His gaze settled on Aurelia, who was helping Chad to his feet.

Furrowing his brows slightly, Matthew shifted his focus to Chad, who couldn’t seem to peel his eyes off Aurelia. “Chad?”

“Hmm? Hey, it really is Old Mr. Gardner’s grandson, Chad,” Gordon confirmed, taken aback.

How did Ms. Shaw know Chad?

Matthew gave a hum in response, his gaze fixated on Aurelia, who seemed shaken.

Her usually composed demeanor was now replaced by a pallor of fear, unveiling a fragile side of her that was seldom seen.

“Should I go and help Ms. Shaw and Chad?” Gordon inquired, ready to exit the vehicle.

A small crowd had gathered, offering help.

It didn’t seem like they’d need his help.

He turned to Matthew, awaiting his directive.

“No need. Let’s head to the hospital,” Matthew instructed firmly, redirecting his attention away from Aurelia.

Only then did Gordon remember they were supposed to go to the hospital that day.

Mabel insisted that Matthew visit the hospital for check–ups every two months due to his severe insomnia issues.

Each visit served as a precautionary measure to monitor any potential health concerns.

They had no other plans for the day besides the hospital visit.

With the help of bystanders, Aurelia and Chad were sent to the hospital. Meanwhile, Chad’s motorcycle had been taken away by the traffic police.

Half an hour later, they arrived at the hospital, where Chad underwent a battery of tests.

The results revealed a fractured left leg, necessitating surgery. While the fall wasn’t bad, it exacerbated the pre–existing injury in his left leg, leaving hospitalization unavoidable.

Upon learning he needed to be admitted, Chad’s expression soured. “It can’t be that serious, can it? I’d rather not stay in the hospital/Can’t I just get a cast?” he protested.

“Listen to the doctor, Chad. You wouldn’t want to risk being unable to ride a motorcycle in the future.” Aurelia urged, noting the seriousness in the doctor’s expression.

“You’re a relative of the patient, correct? Please proceed to settle the payment,” the doctor instructed, looking at Aurelia.

She nodded in acknowledgment, Of course, I’ll take care of the payment now.”

As Aurelia made her way to settle the bill without offering any further explanation, Chad’s face flushed slightly. Did she just admit she was my relative?

Around ten minutes later, Aurelia recentered the ward.

Chad’s cheeks were still flushed. “How much did you end up paying? I’ll reimburse you,” he insisted.

“You can pay me back once you’ve received your paycheck. Besides, you should reach out to your family about this. A family member’s signature is required for the surgery, Aurelia explained, glancing at the payment slip in her hand.

“My parents can’t make it, and it’s not convenient for my grandpa either. I could ask my uncle, but he’s swamped with work,”

Chad responded, his eyes gleaming as he formulated a plan.

He hadn’t yet figured out how to disclose to Aurelia that he was Norman’s grandson, so he couldn’t have Norman come over.

With no other family members available, Jeremy seemed to be his only option.

Additionally, with no family around to care for him, he could feign pity and garner Aurelia’s sympathy.

Aurelia could tell that Chad had some concerns and thought of how he dropped out of high school. He must have his own reasons for not being able to continue his education.

“In that case, ask your uncle to come and sign the surgery consent form. I’ll drop by with food whenever I can, and if you need anything, just have the nurse contact me,” Aurelia reassured Chad, offering her support.

Chad’s eyes sparkled with anticipation when he heard Aurelia mention “drop by with food.” I can finally taste Aurelia’s cooking!

Aurelia checked the time. “There’s still one medical report pending, It should be ready now. I’ll go fetch it.”

“Aurelia, you’re a lifesaver,” Chad expressed, touched by her consideration.

In that moment, Chad realized it was impossible for him to ever love anyone else in his lifetime. His heart belonged solely to Aurelia.

With a gentle smile, Aurelia replied, “Take good care of yourself and rest up.”

While Aurelia tended to the bills, Chad dialed his uncle, Jeremy.

After their conversation, he settled back onto the hospital bed. Despite the discomfort in his leg, a sense of contentment washed over him.

As Aurelia prepared to deliver the medical report to the doctor, a pair of shocked, familiar voices interrupted her.

To make matters worse, Curtis had also divulged their dire circumstances he had lost his job, their savings were dwindling, and her own health had deteriorated to the point of requiring surgery.
