âHow is this anything to brag about?â Alexander Summers couldnât help but laugh. âGoing to all that trouble to hook up with men, doesnât it tire you out? Nobodyâs as amazing as you are.â
Purple Summers felt flattered and was in a good mood, âHow am I amazing?â
âYou didnât even say a word and yet you snagged me.â Alexander Summers fed her a piece of the fish cake that had been drying for a while, âNow, tell me if that isnât impressive?â@@novelbin@@
Purple Summers wanted to roll her eyes after hearing this; she had thought Alexander was about to praise her for her impressive detective skills.
âYouâre also amazing at solving cases,â Alexander added, as if he could read her mind.
Only then did Purple Summers smile, showing off her neat rows of pearly white teeth as she bit into the fish cake, revealing the golden beans inside, âMmm, so sweet!⦠You should have some too.â
They took turns eating, and soon the palm-sized fish cake was all gone.
On the way back, Purple Summers suddenly said to Alexander, âIf Mrs. Carter comes to me again, Iâm thinking of taking on the case of her younger brother.â
Alexander Summers, who was driving, glanced at her and asked, âWhy, are you worried she holds a grudge against you? So, you want to do her a favor?â
Since Meredith Richards was Christopher Simonsonâs first love, it made sense that Caitlin Carter might hold a grudge against Purple Summers, considering Purple Summers her romantic rivalâs daughter.
âWhy would I be worried about that?â Purple Summers chuckled, âI just feel there are uncertainties in that case. Her brother was sentenced to twenty years; by the time heâs released, heâll be a man in his fifties, a little old man, and the best years of his life will have been wasted. If he really was wrongly accused, thatâd be too tragic.â
Purple Summers had no emotional connection to the Simonson Family, and she had only met Caitlin Carter once, with no obligation to help. However, having worked as a prosecutor in her past life, she would get professionally restless whenever she found flaws in a case and felt compelled to get to the bottom of it.
Maybe after all the digging, it would turn out that Caitlin Carterâs younger brother was indeed the perpetrator, making the effort all for nothing.
But if she didnât look into it, Purple Summers would feel incessantly troubled and uneasy.
Alexander naturally understood her small quirks and laughed helplessly, ruffling her hair, âLetâs worry about it during the winter break. Heâs in jail anyway, and a few more days wonât make a difference.â
âIâm not in a rush,â Purple Summers said with a smile. âAfter what happened, itâs a bit awkward, and Mrs. Carter might look for another lawyer.â
Purple Summers thought she might touch base with Allen Rivera, whose access to the prosecutorâs internal network would make searching for case files much more convenientâ¦
After taking Purple Summers home, Alexander went to the hospital.
Damian Howardâs sudden awakening was a sensitive matter for the Howard Family; people who formerly remained passive were beginning to show signs of restlessness, and Alexander would surely be quite busy these coming days.
When Monday came, Purple Summers went to school and shared the news of the upcoming banquet with Zara Jameson and Jane McCain, planning to invite classmates and teachers they were close with.
Zara Jameson couldnât help but express her admiration for Purple Summers, âIâm really envious of you.â
Purple Summers laughed, âWhatâs there to envy, your future university might be even better!â
Zara Jameson shook her head, a touch of emotion in her voice, âI envy that you know which path you should take, while Iâm still fumbling around, clueless about what the future holds.â
Their high school days were coming to an end, but as to which university to attend and how to plan for their future, Zara Jameson was still at a loss.
âYouâre going to the Judicial Training Institute, Jane wants to study fashion design abroad; you both have your plans,â Zara Jameson sighed.
Purple Summers and Jane McCain exchanged glances and asked her, âDo your parents have any suggestions for you?â
âMy mom wants me to apply for a literature major, my dad wants me to apply for a language major, and my brother says to go for whatever I like,â Zara Jameson laughed self-deprecatingly. âBut I donât know what I like.â
