After the court hearing ended, Lindsay Carpenter couldnât hold back anymore and burst into tears, covering her face.
She was going to get her compensation, she didnât have to wait for death anymore!
Purple Summers went over to comfort her, âAlright, stop crying, letâs go out to eat.â@@novelbin@@
With a self-deprecating smile, she added, âIâm so hungry I could collapse.â
During the one-hour recess at noon, none of them had had a proper meal.
Lindsay couldnât help herself and suddenly hugged Purple tightly, crying even harder like a wronged child finding solace.
Purple felt slightly uncomfortable, as she wasnât used to such close contact with others.
Marcel Jefferson, however, said with a face full of emotion, âLittle sis, let her cry for a while, holding it in is painful for her too.â
It wasnât just Lindsay who wanted to cry, Marcel felt like crying too.
Their victory in the lawsuit had been too hard-won.
Watching a sure win being snatched away and being counter-attacked by the opposition had been an experience of unspeakable frustration and suffocation.
Fortunately.
Fortunately, they had ultimately still won.
When Lindsayâs emotions had calmed down a little, the group finally left the courthouse. The reporters had already dispersed outside, and the blue sky and white clouds lifted everyoneâs spirits.
When Purple saw Alexander Summers waiting outside, she was surprised and then ran over happily, âHow come youâre here?â
Wasnât it because he couldnât stand the hypocrisy of the literati in the courthouse, criticizing others while posturing themselves?
Alexander touched her head, âI was afraid youâd lose the case and have nowhere to cry.â
Purple, like a proud little rooster, lifted her head and said, âMe, lose?â
Even if there was insufficient evidence, she would have fought to the death to delay the trial, never just sitting by and letting the opposition take the rewards.
Alexander laughed, âRight, you wonât lose. If you had lost, I would have blown this place up.â
âKeep it down!â Purple quickly covered his mouth, nervously glancing around, âWhat are you talking about, be careful someone hears you!â
Alexander pulled away her hand and glanced down at her rumpled blouse, noting the still-damp spots on it.
âWhatâs this?â he asked.
âThisâ¦â Purple pursed her lips and smiled, âThis, I guess, is what youâd call the tears of happiness!â
As they talked, Marcel Jefferson, Lindsay, and the paralegal approached to say hello.
âI canât really eat right now, have to head to the hospital,â said Marcel, glancing at Alexander and then back to Purple with a teasing tone, âSis, I wonât join the celebration with you.â
âMr. Jefferson got hurt because of me, I should accompany him to the hospital,â Lindsay said considerately.
The remaining legal intern rubbed the back of his head and sheepishly added, âI⦠Iâll go to the hospital too.â
Purple turned red-faced, clearly understanding that they were trying not to be a third wheel.
But Alexander was completely unfazed, draping an arm over her shoulder, âThen letâs plan to meet up another day.â
So Marcel and the others went to the hospital, while Purple and Alexander went to get a meal.
Purple was genuinely hungry; she hadnât felt it while focused earlier, but now that everything was over, her stomach started to sing its persistent tune.
The two found a restaurant that specialized in southern dishes, quite authentic in taste. Purple ate happily, and Alexander was happy watching her eat.
While eating, Purple recounted the events of the court hearing to Alexander in bits and pieces.
âYou have no idea how sick Leon Brown is.â Purple spoke with her mouth full, âThis isnât his first offense. Before, some club hostesses fell into his trap. They didnât make much money, but completely ruined their bodies. Even after healing from injuries, scars affected their business, and once the word got out in their circles, no one wanted to deal with him; they all avoided himâ¦â
As she spoke, something seemed to cross her mind, and she paused, staring blankly ahead.
Alexander wiped a grain of rice from her mouth corner and asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
