Alexander Summers took Atra Blanc to the hospital, and Purple Summers, unable to rest at home, followed with a limp and a crutch.
There was nothing seriously wrong with Atra Blancâs body.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
She gradually woke up in the hospital but refused to look at Alexander Summers again, and he was equally stubborn, plunging the mother and son into a cold war.
Purple stayed in the hospital with Atra Blanc.
Atra Blanc asked her, âPurple, do you want to go find your father?â
Purple was stunned, not understanding why Atra Blanc suddenly brought it up.
âYour father is in Kingsley, I will take you to see him, okay?â Atra Blanc said with a weary face, softly persuading her, âYou are still young and donât understand how important a reputation is for a woman. Your mother and I have both stumbled on this issue; I really donât want to see you make the same mistakes.â
Purple was quiet for a while, then asked, âMom, did my father get married?â
Atra Blanc hesitated, then nodded, âHe got married.â
âSo, if I go to find him, what status will I have?â Purpleâs voice was low, âAn illegitimate daughter from before the marriage? Mom, itâs been so many years, he hasnât come to find me, and I donât want to acknowledge him. Iâve already passed the age of needing fatherly love.â
Atra Blanc felt a pang of sorrow, her eyes turning red as she looked at Purple, âMom doesnât want you to go to Kingsley either, but I canât stand by and watch your brother ruin you. Youâre only seventeen; in the future, you will go to the Judicial Training Institute, you will become a prosecutor, your life shouldnât be tarnished like this.â
Purple smiled helplessly, âMom, youâre really lacking confidence in my brotherâ¦â
âHeâs never been reliable! Heâs never had a girlfriend for more than a week!â As she spoke of Alexander, Atra Blancâs tears surged again, âEvery day heâs drinking, gambling, wasting his life away. I say a few words, and he gets annoyed with me. I donât expect much from him, but he shouldnât treat you this way!â
Purple didnât know whether to laugh or cry.
The only thing to blame is that the playboy image Alexander had crafted for himself was too successful; it had become deeply rooted in Atra Blancâs heart, an impression that couldnât easily be wiped away in a short time.
Was this self-inflicted?
âMom, my brother has been good to me⦠Believe in him just this once,â Purple said with an awkward smile. âI was just an adopted daughter of the Summers Family, and when I turn eighteen, Iâm thinking of changing my name, and no one will know about our sibling relationshipâ¦â
âIs that the sweet talk heâs been using to coax you?â Atra Blanc felt her daughter was blinded by love, speaking earnestly, âYour mother was the same way back in the day, trusting a manâs words too easily, and what was the result? Happy and elated she left, only to come back alone, with nothing, not even a place to stay!â
Purple said, âBut, if she hadnât gone with that man back then, she might have regretted it for the rest of her life, right? Mom, women in love are probably all the same, not turning back until they hit a wall. Let me try this once.â
Atra Blanc stared at her daughter blankly, unsure of how to persuade her.
Purple then softly asked Atra Blanc, âDo you regret it? After everything with Old Master Summers, you also ended up without a social status⦠Youâre so beautiful. If you hadnât met Old Master Summers, you could have married well and been a socialite, living a life of luxury.â
Atra Blanc bit her lip and shook her head, âI donât regret it.â
Purple smiled faintly, took Atra Blancâs hand, and whispered, âMom, I feel the same. No matter how tough life gets in the future, I wonât regret being with him.â
At her words, Atra Blanc felt a surge of emotion.
She was silent for a long time and eventually let out a defeated sigh, âGo⦠call your brother in.â
âMom, thank you.â Purple couldnât help but embrace Atra Blanc, âYouâve been so good to me.â
Atra Blanc, feeling helpless, stroked Purpleâs head, âGo on, be careful, your leg hasnât healed yet.â
Purple smiled and walked out of the ward with the crutch.
Alexander was still waiting outside, his entire demeanor one of restlessness and near madness.
Learning that Atra Blanc was willing to see him, Alexander knew there was room for negotiation and hurried in.
âI have only one demand,â Atra Blanc said, sitting up in the hospital bed, speaking sternly. âBefore Purple turns eighteen, you are not to have any physical contact with her.â
Alexanderâs face turned dark immediately.
