Alexander Summersâs voice had a hint of laughter, âAre you really able to sleep?â
Purple Summers ignored him, pretending she had already fallen asleep, lying on the bed in perfect silence.
After a while, she heard the faint rustling sound of Alexander turning over, and then he gently took hold of her hand that rested on the edge of the bed.
Purple Summers didnât move, and murmured softly in a muffled voice, âWhat are you doing, go to sleep.â
Alexander said, âI canât sleep without holding you.â
âYou sweet talker,â Purple Summers hummed softly, âYou talk as if youâve never slept before.â
âCan that even be called sleeping when one is alone?â Alexander argued illogically, âAt best, itâs just closing oneâs eyes and lying down, you must know, sleep, itâs a verbâ¦â
âJust stop talking!â Purple Summers suppressed her voice, interrupting him indignantly, already foreseeing where this dialogue was heading.
Alexander chuckled, pinched her palm, and indeed closed his mouth without saying another word.
His palm was broad, his fingers long, and the warmth at the center was comforting, giving her a sense of security.
Purple Summers lay quietly in bed, listening to the monotonous chirping of insects outside the window, and gradually, she finally fell asleep.
â¦
Purple Summers slept a peaceful and solid sleep that night, unaware that Atra Blanc tossed and turned restlessly, getting up three to five times during the night, fearing that her unruly son would do something reckless.
Not wanting to wake Purple Summers, Atra Blanc just stood at the doorway and glanced in a few times, seeing that her son was indeed sleeping on the floor, she breathed a sigh of relief, but as she thought about the unclear nature of their relationship, her heart hung in suspense again, feeling utterly helpless.
She never had much of an idea of what to do, and in such a situation, she was completely clueless.
The next day, Atra Blanc was simmering beef bone soup in the kitchen. The boiling milky white thick soup bubbled, and the steam meandered as she stared blankly into the pot.
After a while, she heard a murmur of voices outside.
Atra Blanc walked out and saw Alexander carrying Purple Summers downstairs, their intimacy on display so evidently that it made Atra Blancâs blood surge and she nearly couldnât stand firm.
Yet Alexander, oblivious, noticed Atra Blanc standing by the staircase and asked, âMom, is the soup ready? I can smell the aroma.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âItâs almost readyâ¦â Atra Blanc replied softly, her eyes fixed on Alexanderâs hand that was resting on Purple Summersâs knee.
In the heat of summer, Purple Summers was wearing only a set of Mickey Mouse home pajamas, a tank top on top and charming shorts on the bottom, and Alexander was also dressed lightly, their skin almost touching, making it impossible for Atra Blanc not to have wandering thoughts.
This brother and sister were too close!
Way too close!
Alexander passed by her as if no one else was there, holding Purple Summers on his way to the living room, carefully placing her on the couch, completely ignoring his motherâs heavy-hearted gaze.
âPass me the cane,â Purple Summers told him.
Alexander raised an eyebrow, with a dismissive tone, âWhat do you need a cane for? Wherever you want to go, Iâll carry you. Could a cane be more convenient than me?â
Purple Summers felt extremely embarrassed, casting a glance at Atra Blanc not far away, and pinched Alexanderâs arm forcefully.
âCan you watch what you sayâ¦â she hissed through her teeth, feeling that after a nightâs sleep, Alexander was utterly reckless in front of Atra Blanc, dropping all pretense.
Alexander moved to sit beside her, wanting to scoop Purple Summers into his arms.
âGo and clean the bird stand!â Purple Summers pushed him away, anxious, âCleoâs nest also needs washing!â
Alexander might have no shame, but Purple Summers still had her pride. In front of Atra Blanc, she really didnât want to be too intimate with Alexander. Atra Blanc had been so kind to her, and it would be completely heartless to poke her motherâs heart in such a way.
Fortunately, Alexander was somewhat cooperative and actually went to tidy up the petâs nest. Purple Summers let out a huge sigh of relief.
