As soon as Gavin Graves left, Alexander Summers had no outlet for his rage.
He paced around the room twice, tightly holding back his anger, feeling extremely indignant about Gavinâs blatant attempt to steal his woman!
Too brazen! Too infuriating!
Purple Summers on the sickbed seemed to have missed the undercurrents between the two men, smiling and saying, âYou and Young Master Graves seem to have a good relationship.â
A line of black marks seemed to appear on Alexanderâs forehead, and he wanted to ask Purple how her observation could be so poor!
He glared at Purple to express his disapproval, but she didnât see it.
She was looking down as the caregiver changed her dressing.
Layer by layer, the gauze was peeled back, revealing a ghastly wound on her thighâa small, round hole from where the bullet had been extracted and stitched up. The scar was twisted, the color vivid red, no longer smooth, standing out aggressively against her snow-white, delicate skin. It was heart-wrenching to behold.
Alexander caught his breath for a moment, then forgot everything else, his eyes fixed solely on Purpleâs injury.
He had been shot before; he knew how much it hurt. Because he understood the pain all too well, it was even harder for him to bear knowing Purple was in such agony.
The nurse cleaned the wound again, applied new medication, and wrapped it in a soft, white gauze, finally reminding Purple to rest as much as possible before she turned to leave.
After the nurse left, Alexander looked at her injured leg, sighed deeply, and helped cover her with a thin blanket.
Purple insisted on peeling it back, leaving half of her pale thigh out in the open.
âItâs suffocating. Let me cool off for a bit,â she said coquettishly.
Alexander thought it over. In the heat of summer, covering the wound too tightly seemed indeed impractical, but with such a tender leg exposed, wouldnât it be too much of a boon if someone else saw it?
Alexander stood up to lock the door.
Purple asked him, âWhat exactly happened yesterday?â
Purple, having gone through several attacks with Alexander before, had a real psychological shadow cast over her. When she heard the gunfire, she reflexively thought the attackers were after Alexander, but later, it didnât seem right.
Because it looked like the attackers had been preparing for a long time, yet it was purely a spur-of-the-moment decision for Alexander to attend the dinner at the Graves Family.
Alexander immediately took the chance to lecture her, âIâve told you before, Gavin is not a good person. He dresses up all prim and proper every day, specifically to deceive naïve and innocent students like you! Now you see, right? Theyâve come to kill at your doorstep, which shows how much hatred heâs provoked outside!â
He then stroked Purpleâs head, coaxing her, âBe good, donât go to the Gravesâ place anymore.â
Purple continued to ponder, murmuring, âItâs so strange⦠The Graves Family has always been safe, how could they suddenly become a target?â
Alexander really wanted to change the subject.
Purple held onto his arm, insisting on discussing it, âDonât you find it strange? The attackers had some serious weaponry. Looking across the entirety of Huaya Country, there canât be many who can afford the cost of so many weapons and manpower, right?â
âAre you really that concerned about him?â Alexander asked, his tone dripping with jealousy.
Purple couldnât help but laugh, âCanât I be curious? Women love gossip.â
Alexander felt a bit better inside, looking at her sideways, âReally want to know that badly?â
âReally want to know that badly!â Purple said playfully, hugging Alexanderâs arm and shaking it, âMaster Xander, you are the best, please tell me.â
Alexander couldnât resist her acting cute and spoilt, and he divulged the root of the issue, âMoney and power are always intertwined. The four great families donât just mind their own businesses; they also infiltrate the annual elections. And those candidates need strong financial backing. The Simonson Family targeted the Graves Family, sending a woman over for a marriage alliance. Do you know about this?â
Purple blinked her eyes, somehow coming to a realization, âAre you talking about⦠Violet Nelson?â
