âWhat high? High what?â Jane McCain still didnât understand, âSo what if you know Camilla Farrell? Does it have anything to do with this case?â
Allan Rivera smiled, shook his head, and started the car.
As the car drove onto the open road, Purple Summers explained to Jane McCain, âCamilla Farrell is a womenâs rights activist and a good friend of the president of the Womenâs Rights Protection Federation. She has many collaborative projects with them. In situations like the Douglas Familyâs, itâs useless to go to the police, you have to ask the Womenâs Rights Protection Federation for help.â
Purple Summers said, flashing a slight smile, and then continued, âSo, you see, I wasnât trying to be mysterious just now, itâs just that this could really offend people. If I had told Norman Douglas, the Justice outright, Iâm afraid he would have blown his top right there, haha.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Jane McCain suddenly understood.
Purple Summers was planning to whisk away someoneâs wife and child; of course, she couldnât tell them directly, or wouldnât that make enemies?
âIf the Womenâs Rights Protection Federation gets involved, they really might divorce.â Jane McCain thought for a moment and sighed softly, âA divorce would be good⦠Living in constant fear and on guard, even if not depressed will turn into real depression. And as long as they get divorced, the killer hiding in the Douglas Household probably wonât be able to harm Mrs. Douglasâs children anymore.â
âHow did your investigation go today?â Allan Rivera, who was driving in front, asked.
âNot bad,â Purple Summersâs smile faded a bit, âI have someone in mind, but itâll take time to verify. Right now, the most pressing issue is to quickly help Mrs. Douglas move away. We canât allow her and her child to stay in that kind of place any longer. Even if the killer doesnât strike again, Mrs. Douglasâs mental state will break down sooner or later.â
A hint of a smile appeared on Allan Riveraâs poker face. He glanced at Purple Summers through the rearview mirror, his eyes filled with admiration.
âNicely done, it wasnât in vain that I fought for so long for you guys,â he said with a smile, âLooks like when you join the Prosecutorâs Office, Iâll have to be ready to poach you.â
When assigning interns, prosecutors could use some internal connections to get first pick of the interns. Securing a capable intern assistant could greatly improve their work efficiency.
That Allan Rivera would say such a thing was an obvious sign of affirmation that Purple Summers was a promising talent.
But for Suzanne Saunders, who had trained him, the feelings were complex at that moment.
Jane McCain immediately asked, âWhoâs the killer?â
âI canât say just yet,â apologised Purple Summers with a smile, âI have no evidence, just personal speculation. I need some more proof to confirm itâs that person.â
âYou can tell me your guess, I promise I wonât tell anyone,â Jane McCain was extremely curious.
Purple Summers helplessly responded, âAn accusation without solid evidence is too childish to mention. If Iâm wrong, Iâll regret my irresponsible words and actions every day.â
Jane McCain, feeling dejected, leaned back and exclaimed, âThis is too frustrating! Who exactly killed Mrs. Douglasâs child, ah! I really want to know!â
âIt wonât be much longer,â Purple said, âYouâll know soon enough, at most⦠well, at most a month.â
âThatâs still a long time,â Jane McCain glared at Purple Summers with grievance, âPurple, just tell me. Otherwise, Iâm going to lose sleep over it.â
âTelling you now wouldnât help,â Purple Summers laughed, âWhat if Iâm wrong! If the killer turns out to be someone else, youâll really lose sleep then!â
Seeing Purple Summers firmly unwilling to reveal the answer, Jane McCain was thoroughly frustrated, sighing heavily all the way in the car.
Allan Rivera drove to drop Jane McCain home first, then took Purple Summers back.
Before Purple Summers got out of the car, Allan Rivera called out to her, asking, âDoes Mrs. Douglas know whoâs out to harm her?â
Purple Summers nodded, âShe knows. Thatâs why sheâs so afraid.â
Allan Rivera pondered for a moment, then said goodbye to Purple Summers, âThank you for today. Once the Womenâs Rights Protection Federation steps in, weâll meet again.â
By then, the truth should come to light.
