Purple Summers was half-drunk, half-awake, and a bit out of her senses.
Her kiss was slow and hesitant.
It carried uncertainty, exploring bit by bit, sometimes pausing in confusion, sometimes sucking gently as if self-taught.
Alexander Summersâ heart was beating wildly, as if there were fireworks exploding inside his head! Bursting with resplendent colors yet emptying his ability to think.
One of his hands, unconsciously, clutched tightly on the cashmere cushion on the seat, forcibly restraining the urge to turn her over and pin her down.
At this moment, Alexander was in both pain and pleasure.
After Purple was done kissing, she held Alexanderâs face and quietly examined it, her dazed yet serious expression seeming as if she were pondering something.
It was then that Alexander realized⦠he could breathe.
âI know now,â said Purple seriously, âItâs the sweetness of the soda water.â
Alexander had drunk a few sips of soda water on his way to pick her up, and Purple had tasted the faint sweetness from his mouth. After reasoning through her alcohol-induced fogginess, she came to this conclusion.
A very ordinary sentence, yet Alexander couldnât help but laugh, saying, âYeah, your mouth has it too.â
âRight, I also drank soda water,â Purple nodded earnestly, âTwo sips.â
She seemed to be quite sober.
But if she were truly sober, she wouldnât explain whether she drank soda water in such a methodical manner.
Alexander smiled tenderly, stroking her head, âDrink less in the future, okay?â
Purple Summers rested her head in his embrace, her chin on his shoulder, whispering softly, âI am so happy today.â
Never before had she felt her future so bright and promising as she did today.
The career she had lost was coming back to her, the love she was missing was right before her, and on top of that, she had gained so many good friends. Suddenly, she felt like she was standing at the peak of her life!
Supremely happy!
Though the taste of reaching the summit was wonderful, she could see the deep cliff just below with a single downward glance.
âIâm really scared of falling off,â Purple Summers said intermittently, speaking with Alexander, âI want to stay on the peak forever⦠People always say life has its ups and downs, but I donât want to go down⦠I just want to stay at the topâ¦â
When joy reaches a certain level, one starts to fear losing it, and Purple was just like that now.
âOkay, weâll stay on the top and not come down,â Alexander comforted her, caressing her back.
Purple was delighted by his comforting, hugging Alexanderâs waist and murmuring with eyes half-closed, âIâm so happy, I want to be happy like today forever⦠Iâm the happiestâ¦â
Lost in self-contentment, she kept repeating, âIâm the happiest⦠Iâm the happiestâ¦â
Alexander found her drunken demeanor adorable and teased her on purpose: âHmm, youâre quite happy, but not the happiest.â
Upon hearing this, Purpleâs mouth turned down in an instant, immediately unhappy.
She sat up straight, counting off on her fingers to contest his point: âMy mom loves me a lot, my boyfriend is super handsome, I have so many good friends, I also own a company, a house, a crow, a snakeâ¦â
Listing each example, she seemed to show she had many treasures, and finally asked, âHow am I not the happiest?â
âAll these are yours, but you are mine,â Alexander whispered, nibbling gently on her lips, ââ¦I am the happiest person.â
Purple felt slightly wronged, as if she had lost a great deal.
Then she thought again that although she couldnât be the happiest person, striving to be the second happiest wasnât too bad.
Her grandmother always said contented people are happy, and she shouldnât be too greedy.
âOkay, Iâll give it to you, you are the happiest person,â Purple conceded generously.
Alexander hugged her tightly, his chest swelling with sweetness, almost maddeningly so.
