Moving out of the Summers Residence.
This idea had always been on Alexander Summersâ mind. Before, it was because he didnât want Atra Blanc to stay here and be wronged; now he wanted his beloved woman to stay as far away from Nathaniel Summers as possible, the farther the better.
Although thatâs what he thought, when it really came to bringing it up, he couldnât put it that way.
During dinner, Alexander said, âPurpleâs studies are getting more and more intense, and going to and from school is too exhausting. Once this semester is over, sheâll be in third grade. The workload will only get heavier. Iâve seen a few communities near the school that arenât bad. How about we buy a place and live there? After Purple graduates, we can sell the house or keep it as an investment.â
Atra Blanc looked at the siblings blankly. âDo you mean⦠weâre moving out?â
Purple Summers suspected that Atra Blanc might have a masochistic streakâ¦
Atra Blanc lived here without respect and without friends. Knowing about the move, shouldnât she be happy? Why did she seem a little melancholic?
âAhem, ahemâ¦â Purple Summers coughed twice and slowly said, âBrother and I just had this thought, we havenât decided yet⦠um, so we wanted to ask for your opinion.â
Atra Blancâs expression was somewhat startled.
After a long pause, without saying it was a good or bad idea, she just said, âI have lived here for over twenty yearsâ¦â
She clearly didnât want to leave.
It was precisely because Atra Blanc had always shown attachment to the Summers Residence that Alexander Summers, despite his wealth, had never arranged another place for his own mother to live.
Hearing Atra Blanc say this, the siblings fell silent.
They did want to move, but they couldnât force Atra Blanc to move with them; that would be too selfish.
Atra Blanc seemed to sense the subtle change in the atmosphere and looked at Purple Summers uneasily, asking, âPurple, has it been very tiring to travel to and from school lately? Are you getting up too early?â
âUmâ¦â Purple hesitated, half-truthfully, half-falsely saying, âThe roads always seem to get jammed, and to avoid the morning peak, I have to get up very early⦠Coming back home after school is just as bad, the traffic can be terribleâ¦â
Atra Blancâs expression seemed torn and conflicted.
Purple Summers found it very hard to bear.
Initially, she and Alexander had been secretly dating behind Atra Blancâs back, and she already felt very guilty. If she were to deceive Atra Blanc into moving out, wouldnât that be bullying her?
âMom, Iâm okay,â Purple hurriedly said. âIf it really gets too rushed in the future, I can board at school.â
âBoarding at school is not as comfortable as home,â Atra Blanc said with pain for her daughter. âLetâs eat first. Let mom think about this a bit longer.â
The siblings exchanged glances and quietly ate their meals.
Afterward, Purple kept feeling uncomfortable, as if she had done something wrong.
That night, as was his habit, Alexander slipped into her room. Purple couldnât help but say, âI feel especially sorry for mom, maybe we should forget it and not move.â
Alexander lifted the blanket in an experienced way, wrapping his arms around her as he lay down, unconcerned: âWhatâs there to be sorry about moving? Youâre overthinking it. Moving out is for her own good, sheâs living too enclosed a life now.â
âYouâre shameless,â Purple snuggled into his embrace, poking his chest with her index finger, âYouâre clearly trying to hide your own affair, yet you speak as if youâre trying to save momâs life.â
âWhat am I hiding?â Alexander tickled by her poking, chuckled softly, âI never thought about hiding. Letâs go tell mom now and clear things up.â
Purple was shocked. âWhat are you prepared to say?â
âJust say, âYou donât have to worry about your hard-raised daughter marrying into another family. Youâll also get a daughter-in-law who is exactly to your liking. Your daughter and daughter-in-law are all set in one go. Just wait to hold your grandchildren.â
Purple couldnât help but chuckle in his arms, her shoulders shaking.
Alexander asked, âShall we go?â
âStop joking,â Purple looked up, her cheeks flushed with the shyness of a young girl, âLetâs wait a little longer, Iâm not ready yetâ¦â
Alexander leaned down to kiss her and said, âAlright, then weâll wait a little longer.â
He reached out to turn off the bedside lamp, and the room was immediately plunged into darkness.
Only the whispered sweet nothings of lovers remained.
