Purple Summers returned to the banquet hall, and her bodyguard led her to Alexander Summers.
The guests were all discussing Flynn Howardâs affair; nobody paid attention to Purpleâs whereabouts, and she went straight to Alexanderâs room.
When Purple entered, the heavy chenille curtains in the room were halfway drawn, half-hung; Alexander stood in front of the window, sunlight illuminating his profile, revealing his thin lips pressed tightly as if suppressing rage.
He heard footsteps but did not turn around, still staring fiercely outside.
Purple suspected that when she was talking to Gavin outside earlier, Alexander was watching them just like this.
She couldnât help but roll her eyesâ¦
âStop looking, heâs already gone.â Purple approached and said coolly. From the window, she could see Gavin Graves had already left the estate by car.
âWhat kind of shady business do you need to talk about that you had to send the bodyguard away?â Alexander immediately started with harsh words.
âIndeed, quite shady,â Purple agreed and said, âFor example, someone being thrown into the sea to feed the sharks, someone almost getting dropped into a boiling pot, someone falling into a pit of snakes for three days and nights unable to crawl out⦠So many dark histories, if the bodyguard heard them, who knows if he would start to doubt if heâs following the wrong Boss.â
Alexanderâs thoughts shifted, and the gloom in his eyes cleared away.
He turned and wrapped his arms around Purpleâs waist, saying, âDid you seek out Gavin Graves to inquire about my past?â
Purple looked at him with disdain, âWe just chatted about it casually, I wouldnât go out of my way to ask him.â
Alexander felt his presence being acknowledged, and his mood immediately lifted.
He pulled the curtains closed and lifted Purple onto his lap, âWhatever you want to know, you can ask me, why bother asking him?â
âYou?â Purple sized him up, her gaze full of scorn, âYouâre full of nonsense.â
Alexanderâs soaring spirits began to plummet again, âDonât tell me, Iâm less trustworthy than Gavin Graves to you?â
âItâs not about trust or distrustâ¦â
Purple wanted to say, your mouth is always on about something frivolous; we canât even have a proper conversation.
On that point, she really did prefer Young Master Graves, at least her chats with Gavin were barrier-free and communication was particularly smooth.
â¦Forget it, better not to bring that up, or Alexander would surely go mad again.
Purple stretched out her hand and pinched his face, twisting it hard: âI caught the murderer for you, I found out who the spy is, and this is how you treat me!â
Alexander started to laugh at her words.
But since Purple was pinching his face out of shape, the smile wasnât very attractive.
âToday, Purple did a great job; I want to reward you!â Alexander said, âWhat would you like?â
Purple, sitting in his embrace, had a twinkling gaze, thinking about how to extort a good deal from him.
Alexander said with emotion, âEverything I have is yours, my heart has already been given to you. Why donât you take charge of my body now?â
âYouâre being a hooligan again!â Purple glared at him annoyedly, pushing him away, feeling that she mustnât give him the slightest bit of good expression, or else heâd take the opportunity to do indelicate things!
Alexander laughed heartily, wrapping his arms around her, he rolled over, causing Purple to lay on top of him.
Purple propped herself up, wanting to get up, but Alexander wouldnât allow it.
âJust lie down like this, it makes me feel at peace,â he clenched her waist tightly.
Purple had no choice but to continue lying down.
Her soft cheeks pressed against his chest, she heard the robust and vigorous heartbeat coming through, as if it penetrated her eardrums and struck directly at her heart, invisibly linking the rhythms of their hearts together.
Thump, thump, thump⦠thump, thump, thumpâ¦
Purple did not speak for a long while.
She felt inexplicably at peace⦠as if a warm current of affection was flowing around her.
âTell me, how did you escape after being thrown into the sea?â Purple asked him softly.
