Purple Summers followed him out and saw Alexander Summers waiting for her at the entrance of the restaurant, his expression looking awful.
âWhatâs wrong?â Purple approached and asked, âWhat did she say to insult you?â
Alexander scoffed, âShe said her insecurity is all thanks to me. If it werenât for my engagement to Lily Howard, she wouldnât be so anxious. She also accused me of having sinister intentions, wanting to monopolize Lily.â
Purple: ââ¦â
After a moment, Purple gently took Alexanderâs arm and quietly consoled, âForget about it⦠Sheâs from abroad and doesnât understand the inner workings of the Howard family; donât take it to heart.â
Her feelings were indeed complicated: her man was getting engaged to someone else, yet she had to comfort him insteadâ¦
Alexander wouldnât hold a grudge over such a trifle against a young girl; he was just irate internally. The engagement was a calculated move made by him and Lily within the Howard household, such a grave matter! And Sarahâs accusations turned it into Alexander coveting Lilyâs beauty!
What beauty of Lily did he covet? That androgynous thing!
It was truly infuriating!
âItâs my Purple who understands the bigger picture,â Alexander remarked as he patted Purpleâs head.
Purple: ââ¦â
After staying silent for a while, she said, âI donât understand the bigger picture; Iâm just powerless. Whatâs the point of asking for my opinion on decisions youâve already made? Sarah must think the same way, which is why she got so angry.â
At first glance, Alexander and Lily seemed to greatly respect their partners, purposefully arranging todayâs meeting of four to put their partners at ease, thereby accepting the engagement without resentment.
But the entire situation was still absurd!
âDoes it have to be this way?â Purple lamented, âCan you not secure your position without Lilyâs support?â
She even wanted to jab at him: If you canât secure it, then donât. Relying on a woman to keep your seat isnât shameful to you?
But such words were too hurtful; their relationship had been harmonious lately, and she didnât want to upset Alexanderâ¦
Alexander remained silent for a while, then took her hand and slowly walked outside.
The weather was wonderful outside, the March sunshine less biting and more warm and spring-like.
They walked shoulder to shoulder at a leisurely pace. Sunlight filtered through the interlacing branches of large trees, casting brilliant, patchy golden light and shadow on the grass. A breeze passed by, causing the light and shadow to dance, like an ephemeral golden koi flitting at the tips of the grass blades.
Maybe it was the nice scenery, the fresh air, but Purpleâs moodiness had quietly dissipated.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Alexander asked her, âAfter you graduate, is there anything you particularly want to do?â
Purple truthfully replied, âI want to take the judicial examination this October, and then go to the training institute to study, eventually becoming a prosecutor.â
âBut you wonât be eighteen by this October, will you? You wonât be able to take the judicial examination, right? Do you need my help?â Alexander offered.
âNo need.â Purple shook her head, âOur school has special slots, not limited by age.â
Only then did Alexander understand why she was so insistent on studying at Grey; she had been planning ahead.
He felt a bit moved and couldnât help but kiss Purple lightly, saying, âPurple, youâre really wonderful, always full of sunshine and vitality, like⦠like a sunflower, making one feel warm.â
Hearing this, Purple frowned, âItâs fine to say Iâm full of sunshine and vitality, but why describe me as a sunflower? Sunflowers have their faces full of seeds, itâs disgusting!â
Alexander burst out laughing,
He remembered that Purpleâs reason for hating dragon fruit was similarly peculiar.
After laughing for a while, he said, âPurple, everyone has things they want to do, and so do I. Damian Howard saved me three times; protecting the family headâs position for him and saving his sisterâs life, and then, Iâll give him a child, that should settle the debt, right?â
