âWhatâs the matter? Scared?â
Greg Jensen wasnât in a hurry, sitting placidly on the sofa, observing the father and son duo across from him.
A moment later, Wallace Carter gritted his teeth and abruptly raised his head, saying, âMr. Jensen, may I make a small request?â
âGo on.â
âIf one day, our Carter Family runs into trouble, I ask that you please save the lives of my two sons.â
Greg Jensen looked at Wallace Carter, silent, his gaze icy.
Feeling his scalp tingle under that look, Wallace Carter still straightened his spine and met Greg Jensenâs eyes.
After a brief pause, Greg Jensen nodded, saying, âI agree. No matter what happens, Iâll keep them safe.â
âGood, then I⦠agree,â Wallace Carter said through gritted teeth.
Greg Jensen looked at him with slight surprise and asked, âNot going to think it over?â
Wallace Carter smiled with a hint of ruthlessness, âI, Wallace Carter, also made my way up on these streets. Iâve been ready for anything. My only concern is these two sons of mine.
Since youâve agreed to keep them safe, what else is there to consider?â
Greg Jensen nodded silently, then said, âWell, letâs get on with it quickly. I will have someone deliver the antidote as soon as I have it ready.â
âAlright.â
Just then, a knock was heard. Callum Shaw walked in with a smile, asking, âIâm not interrupting your discussion, am I?â
âNot at all, come in and sit,â Wallace Carter responded with a smile.
âHaha, is this the esteemed guest you mentioned⦠Greg Jensen?â
Upon seeing Greg Jensen, Callum Shaw was taken aback, exclaiming in surprise, âOld Carter, you canât mean heâs the guest?â
âThatâs right, Mr. Jensen himself.â
Wallace Carter spoke somewhat awkwardly, âTheo has been having some health issues. If it werenât for Mr. Jensen healing him, we wouldnât know what to expect.â
âYou know how to heal?â
âA little.â
Greg Jensen had visited the Shaw residence before and had met Callum Shaw a couple of times. Having a fairly good impression, he said with a smile, âUncle Shaw, long time no see.â
âHaha, indeed. It feels like itâs been almost two or three years since I last saw you.â
Callum Shaw, all smiles, took a seat and remarked, âI remember hearing about your incident back then. Vivian was so worried back at home; she even asked around for your whereabouts.â
âYeah, I got injured at the time and went straight back to my hometown to recuperate.â
âTsk. You shouldâve at least told Vivian. On several occasions, I caught her wiping away tears in secret during the night.â
Greg Jensen was taken aback for a moment before smiling awkwardly, âYeah, I really didnât handle that well.â
âAh, that reminds me, youâve seen Vivian, right? She came to hang out today too.â
âYeah, we came here together.â
Callum Shaw, adopting the posture of an elder, patted Greg Jensen on the shoulder, saying, âYou young people should keep in touch more. We old folks canât keep up with your pace anymore.â
The Carter father and son watched Callum Shawâs gesture with some panic, as if his hefty hand was pounding on their hearts, making them tremble uncontrollably.
However, Greg Jensen appeared not to mind at all, smiling, âUncle Shaw, youâre being modest. We need guidance from our elders to walk the path correctly.â
âYou young man, youâre still such a smooth talker.â
âUncle, Iâll leave you two to chat. Iâm heading back to the private room.â
Greg Jensen stood up to leave, with Wallace Carter and his son hastily standing up to personally escort him to the door.
Callum Shaw thought Wallace Carter was being so respectful because Greg Jensen had healed his son, so he didnât think much of it.
Wallace Carter didnât offer any additional explanation, casually chatting away, but internally he was pondering how to minimize the risks of their investigation.
After chatting for a while, Callum Shaw also stood up to take his leave and drove back to his home.
It was only when he got home that he realized his daughter had already returned, and he couldnât help but express his surprise, âWhy are you back so early? Didnât you have dinner with them?â
Vivian Shimpson seemed a bit downcast and snorted, âI get full just by seeing that guy, let alone eating dinner.â
Callum Shaw laughed, âHaha, when you canât see him, you miss him, and when you do, he annoys you. Whatâs going on with you?â
âIâm just annoyed, thatâs all.â
Suddenly, Vivian Shimpson looked up with a surprised face and asked, âDad, do you know who Iâm talking about?â
âOf course, Greg Jensen!â
Callum Shaw looked at his daughter with a chuckle, his eyes full of indulgence.
âHow do you know itâs him? Have you met him?â
âHaha, not only have I met him, but I also had a chat with him. Heâs a good lad, speaks appropriately and is very humble.â
âGood my foot!â
Vivian Shimpson didnât want to talk about Greg Jensen anymore and instead asked, âDad, didnât you say Uncle Carter went to meet a very important client? Who is it that got him to rush back in person?â
âHaha, guess? You definitely wonât guess who it is.â
Callum Shaw had meant to tease his daughter but couldnât hold back and started laughing, âAlright, I wonât tease you anymore. The person Wallace Carter wanted to see was actually Greg Jensen.â
âGreg Jensen? How is that possible?â
Vivian Shimpson was immediately shocked and couldnât help but feel a bit doubtful.
Could Wallace Carter have been tricked too?
Callum Shaw said with some melancholy, âYeah, I was quite surprised when I saw Greg Jensen too, but it turns out he cured Theo Carterâs illness. The Carter family now sees him as their benefactor.â
Hearing her fatherâs words, Vivian Shimpsonâs expression instantly turned cold, and she snorted, âI see, he really is capable!â
The reason Vivian Shimpson said this was because she felt Greg Jensen had completely deceived Wallace Carter, but Callum Shaw thought she was talking about Greg Jensenâs ability to cure and save people.
Seeing his daughter lost in thought, Callum Shaw couldnât help but smile and said, âNow you can relax. With his current skills, he might not be rich, but at least he wonât have any problems with food.â
âHim?â
Vivian Shimpson looked up in confusion, âAre you talking about Greg Jensen?â
She pursed her lips and snorted, âWould I worry about a big fraud? What a joke!â
âYouâre just stubborn,â he said.
Callum Shaw smiled and asked, âVivian, tell Dad, do you still like that Greg Jensen?
If you do, you should confess to him quickly. Donât wait until itâs too late and then regret it.â
Vivian Shimpsonâs face turned red, and she retorted, âDad, what are you talking about!â
âHaha, a daughter is bound to leave her father, I understand. Itâs your life, do as you see fit.
Living without regrets is the true happiness in life!â
Vivian Shimpson said, âDad, I really donât like him!â
âIf you donât like him, why is your face red?â
âIâ¦â
Callum Shaw teased with a smile, shaking his head, and walked into his study.
Vivian Shimpson sat dazedly on the sofa, touched her cheek, and muttered, âCould I still like that scumbag?
Impossible! How could I like him?â
She shook her head, thinking of Louisa Burleyâs gaze towards Greg Jensen, knowing her best friend must have feelings for Greg Jensen.
Her expression turned slightly cold, and she decided she needed to warn Greg Jensen when she had the chance, to keep him away from Louisa Burley.
