As early as Dawn, two large wolf beasts stepped into the circle of a training ground. A lot of Ark Villeâs civilians had gathered to watch the event, including Anna who sat next to Madame Alina at the front seat.
Her brown eyes marveled over the two beautiful wolves, one of them had a dark and silver fur, while the opponent had a brown and gray fur on its back, normally their bellies were always lighter and their tails were big and fluffy.
She had woken up this morning, only to hear from the Mayor and his wife that an event would take place at the training ground in their mansion.
She pictured a swordsmanship event but her mind never crossed watching two beast animals fight. They were more than ten feet and she wouldnât have believed it was a wolf if not for its fox-like face.
âGrrrrrrr!!!â
A deep growl emitted from the grayish-brown wolf who had clear Amber eyes, it showed itâs extremely sharp canine, indicating how easy itâd be to rip his opponent if it doesnât back down, but the silver wolf stood its ground, pacing left and right while locking itâs predatory gaze with the wolf.
With an unexpected speed, it pounced on itâs opponent with the aim of knocking it to the ground, but turns out the opponent wasnât as dumb as the silver wolf sensed it to be and watched as it easily leapt to the other side of the circle, swifty evading the hit but what happened next wasnât something the silver wolf sensed coming.
.....
The moment it hopped to the other side, with the same vitality still intact, it jumped on the silver wolf and gave it a sharp bite straight at the neck. It made the silver wolf whimper in pain as it tried to keep itself from falling to its feet. Sensing the wolfâs reluctance, the grayish-brown wolf gave it a hard nod at the side of its belly, sending the silver wolf falling to the ground with a heavy thud due to the impact. Heavy dust hid the two wolves and a cheerful uproar emitted from the crowd.
Anna, who watched unblinkingly didnât even realize her mouth was left agape, this is basically the first time sheâs witnessing something like this, and it caught her interest, except for the biting part.
âWhat do they call this event?â Anna couldnât help but ask Madame Alina who gracefully fanned herself with her exquisite hand fan. She was dressed in a luxurious deep brown gown, along with the matching hat and she looked beautiful.
âItâs something we call the beast event,â Madame Alina curtly began, â...where all beast animals get a chance to prove their strengths and show their stamina. Itâs one of our important cultures in Ark Ville and it happens every seven years.â She briefed, but then pointed at the two beast wolves that came into sight after the dust had cleared off.
âCan you guess which is my son from the two wolves?â She asked, leaving Annaâs eyes to widen in stupefaction at the mention of her son.
âYour son?â
She nodded, âmy son is a beast wolf, a trait he got from his father.â
âThe Mayor is a beast wolf?â
âHe was one of the strongest among the beastmen, but now he feels too âoldâ to participate in things like this, so he wants our son to take over and win the event.â
Stealing a glance at the Mayor who sat on a specially designed stool made from gold and adorned with intricate patterns, the look on his face showed how proud he was as he continued to watch the event in silence.
From there, Anna already knew exactly which wolf was Nicholas.
âThat one.â She pointed at the grayish-brown wolf, âthe one with the gray color and brown is Nicholas.â
Madame Alina swung her fan to the right, ânot bad, but I take it to be obvious since his power holds an envious dominance, donât you think?â
Anna just smiled before returning her gaze back to the training ground, unwilling to answer that.
In a dark corner of the event building, Roshan stood there, silently watching everything display before him and a loud cheering uproar nearly bursted his eardrums.
âWhat crazy civilians.â He hissed, looking disgruntled as he waited for the ringing in his ear to settle.
âItâs nice to see Iâm not the only one with that mentality.â Came the feminine voice of a woman who approached his side, she had her arms folded against her chest and watched the event go on, Roshan didnât really bother to look in her direction and kept watching.
âAnd whatâs a fellow Ark Ville doing here when sheâs meant to be up there, with the crowd?â
She let out a mocking chuckle, âI can ask you the same.â
âNot quite.â
She looked at him, surprised he didnât even spare her a single glance, but then, why should she bother anyway?
âYouâre the one who helped Nicholas right?â
âNo, Anna did.â He neutrally corrected.
âRight, your sister.â
Roshan silently scoffed, with the sibling relationship spreading like this, he really wonders what reaction to expect from all of them when they figure out what he does to her behind closed doors.
The thought made a sinful smile across his lips, but unfortunately he has to keep with the act.
Another uproar was gotten from the crowd, âyâall deal with this screams?â
She nodded, âyes, the beast event is a cultural event and so itâs one of the most anticipated days in Ark Ville.â
The glacier finally decided to glance at the person he was talking to. As expected, it was a lady, but she didnât seem to be the princess type. Her outfit proved that part already cause she was dressed in a linen long sleeve shirt along with the tight-fitting pants. A sword hung at the side of her waist and her blonde hair was tied in a short ponytail.
âYouâre a warrior.â
âAn assassin to be precise.â Her blue eyes met his Hazel-green ones.
âThe nameâs Leasis.â She introduced herself with a smile that didnât last long on her pale lips.
âYour sister seems to enjoy the event a lot.â She said, drawing Roshanâs attention to the beautiful lady who was smiling from ear to ear as she enjoyed the scene before her, she made multiple expressions as he watched her further and it became difficult to look away.
âSo, wanna ditch the event and go horse riding with me?â
âAre you asking me out on a date?â He joked.
Leasis sighed, âdonât think too highly of yourself young sir, obviously this isnât interesting either of us, but I guessed you might be interested in a horse race.â
âAnd if I refuse?â
âI can only wish you good luck on getting your eardrums fixed.â She smiled and walked out, an attitude Roshan actually found commendable.
âNot bad.â Itâs been a while since he rode a horse, so it wouldnât hurt to leave the mansion for a little while and go horse riding. He could tell she had no sort of infatuation for him and her words were genuine, if he could get close to her, sheâd render him a valuable help when it comes to protecting Anna.
With that thought in mind, he followed her.
