Lin Feiâer was transferred to the intensive care unit. She lay down quietly with her whole body wrapped in white bandages, showing only her face.
That bright and charming face was currently pale and bloodless. Her usually alert big eyes were now closed tightly. Her vitality appeared to have been drawn out by someone all of a sudden.
Mr. and Mrs. Lin were the first two people who went in as those who wished to visit should be disinfected and to enable the patient to rest, not too many people should visit at one time.
When Mr. and Mrs. Lin came out, their tears kept gushing down their cheeks. Su Wanâs heart tightened.
Behind them were Li Peng and Su Wan. Both of them had changed into sterile clothing and after disinfection, they followed the medical staff into the intensive care unit.
When Su Wan saw Lin Feiâer who was currently unconscious with various tubes attached to her, her throat felt bitter and she felt like crying but could shed no tears.
She was fine this afternoon, so why had she become like this now?
Seeing Li Peng half squatting beside Lin Feiâer with a face of pain, a baffling resentment rose in Su Wanâs heart.
She knew Li Peng genuinely felt sad for Lin Feiâer but she couldnât take pity on Li Peng!
On the contrary, Su Wan wished she could let Li Peng leave Lin Feiâer. If not for him, how could the usual lively and cheerful Lin Feiâer become a pale mannequin now?
What was the use of a man who could abandon his newlywed wife?
Su Wan was a person who couldnât accept disloyalty towards oneâs partner. If she were Lin Feiâer, she would definitely choose to divorce.
In the world of love, Su Wan could only accept the existence of two people. Once there was a third party, Su Wan would turn and firmly leave.
Before she could love a person, she would learn how to love herself. If she were to abandon her dignity for the sake of a fickle man, she was afraid the rest of her life would not be good.
However, Su Wan didnât know how Lin Feiâer would view this matter.
She was not Lin Feiâer and could not decide for her but if Lin Feiâer chose to divorce, Su Wan would definitely support her without reservation. As for what to say to Lin Feiâerâs parents, Su Wan would try her best to help her friend.
Coming out from the intensive care unit, Su Wan darted a glance at the door which was now shut. She took out her mobile phone silently and called Jiang Xuecheng.
No matter what Lin Feiâerâs decision was, she could still do something else silently for her.
âXuecheng, Feiâer met with an accident. I want to stay here to take care of her, so I wonât be going home tonight.â
On the other end, there was a moment of silence, followed by an anxious voice.
âAre you alright? Are you still at Kang Ping Hospital? Have you taken your dinner?â
Upon hearing this, Su Wan was taken aback. A faint warmth arose in her heart. If not for this manâs reminder, she might have forgotten she had been hungry for hours.
When Lin Feiâer was pushed into the operating theater, she was filled with worries and had no time to think of food.
âIâm fine but Feiâerâs injuries are serious. Iâll have my dinner later. You must remember to eat on time too.â
After answering Su Wan, Jiang Xuecheng said, âIâll come over to look for you.â
Su Wan widened her eyes. She wanted to say it wasnât necessary but all she could hear was a busy tone from the other end of the line.
Jiang Xuecheng had ended the call.
Su Wan felt a sensation in her nose. She knew Jiang Xuecheng was very busy lately but it seemed that whenever it came to her affairs, this man would always give her priority.
Now that she had witnessed Lin Feiâerâs accident, she cherished how well Jiang Xuecheng treated her even more.
The world was complicated. She wished she and Jiang Xuecheng would accompany one another for the rest of their lives without abandoning one another.
In less than ten minutes, Su Wan suddenly heard the sound of steady footsteps at the door.
Looking up, a tall figure came into her sight. Who else could it be if not Jiang Xuecheng?
Seeing his familiar face, Su Wanâs heart was filled with grievances which she had no one to pour out to. That moment, all of these grievances flowed out.
Su Wan stood up and buried her face in his shoulder. Her emotions went out of control.
Su Wan sniffed and her tears gushed down just like the water from a broken dam, wetting Jiang Xuechengâs suit.
As the person lying in the intensive care unit was Lin Feiâer, Su Wan couldnât help feeling sad.
At the thought of Lin Feiâerâs dead baby and that Lin Feiâer had to face the cruel truth that she could no longer be pregnant when she woke up, as well as how Lin Feiâer would be advised to accept Yang Xiaobingâs and Li Pengâs baby, Su Wan felt like her heart was being stabbed till she couldnât breathe.
Although Jiang Xuecheng didnât know what had happened, when he saw Su Wanâs helpless look, his heart ached.
He sighed and placed some fresh food which he had bought on the stool. Then, he hugged Su Wan and tapped her back gently, trying to ease her sadness.
âDonât worry, Lin Feiâer will recover, itâs going to be fine...â
Su Wan listened and her delicate shoulders started trembling. She nestled against Jiang Xuechengâs body, trying to absorb some energy from this man to support herself.
âIâm very scared...â
Su Wan breathed in Jiang Xuechengâs scent. When she started speaking, her voice became steadier.
Three years ago, her parents died during an accident and Su Wan had a great phobia to the extent of not daring to drive even though she had a driving license. Now, with Lin Feiâerâs accident, it had undoubtedly added to her phobia.
âDonât worry, itâs fine, donât be afraid. Iâm here, everything will be better...â
Jiang Xuecheng knew Su Wan was terrified today but he had no prior experience of consoling a person and it was his first time seeing Su Wan so vulnerable.
He clumsily hugged Su Wan and took a piece of tissue paper to wipe away her tears on her face.
After a long time, both of them still held each other in this manner, ignoring the medical staff who were walking to and fro as well as Li Peng and the others.
Su Wan wiped her tears repeatedly with the piece of tissue paper and finally stopped crying. Her usual beautiful eyes had swollen to the size of walnuts.
When Jiang Xuecheng saw Su Wanâs emotions becoming more and more stable, he held her hand and sat down with her on the chair.
Jiang Xuecheng took out the lunch box. He had bought some little dumplings for Su Wan. He opened the lid and fed Su Wan a dumpling with a spoon.
âCome, eat something. You canât just stay hungry like this.â
Su Wan looked at the steaming hot little dumplings. Although she did not have an appetite now, she knew it was his good intentions and she didnât want Jiang Xuecheng to worry about her.
Su Wan obediently opened her mouth and swallowed the little dumpling. Then, she smiled bashfully. âIâll feed myself.â
Although it was now 8 pm at night, there were still many people in the hospital. Su Wan felt shy being fed by Jiang Xuecheng.
