87 Ch. 87 The Past (part 1)
(Flashback to fifteen years ago)
The Calvins came over to New York City, united states of America after the Regnzs invited them to join them in his beloved daughterâs First-acquaintance big event.
Even if the Calvins were not as fortunate as the Regnz, they would still be invited since Stanley was Catherine Regnzâs dear cousin. Not to mention, Stanley was one of Chleoraâs favorite uncles, who always doted on her and helped her avoid the girlâs fatherâs wrath every time the little girl did mischievous things.
Only, Chleo was no longer a little girl and had grown up to become a fine young lady.
Chleora Regnz was a breathtaking lady with mixed Asian and European blood, jet-black hair, and some bright shades adorning her silky hair.
Unlike the other wealthy kids, Chleo didnât like to boast about her familyâs wealth and preferred to be down to earth and mingle with lower society.
Chleo managed to hide her true identity throughout her university days in Seattle and graduated with top grades. Not only that, but the girl also managed to earn a jaw-dropping income through her design work, even though she was only twenty.
The young lady had become successful at a very young age making her whole family feel proud of her. No wonder she became the apple of the eye of her family.
Her studies get the best grades, and she also gets fixed royalties from the Daphnia Fashion company without relying on her family name. In addition, she would also marry Axelard Canvedish, the owner of the worldâs largest shipping industry.
.....
All women yearn to be lucky women like Chleo. At the same time, they were green with envy, seeing Chleo was able to captivate the heart of the most wanted bachelor man.
But most of all, Richard and his two younger siblings were very proud and fortunate to be Chleoâs cousins, and that brilliant young girl adored them as much.
Not only did she have a good heart, but Chleo also loved all her cousins ??equally. She never chooses favors and would always make time to play with them.
On the day of the event, for the first time, Richard and Raymond were formally dressed by wearing tuxedos and tight pants, making it difficult for them to walk. They walked like a robot walking, slowly and stiffly.
They felt like someone choked on their breath, considering their tight shirt and the ribbon tie that wrapped their necks.
Raymond didnât whine and behaved like a good boy. On the contrary, Richard kept complaining and pestering his mother about his uncomfortable clothing. His mother couldnât stand it and twisted his ear lightly, earning a grimace groan, but it silenced him nonetheless.
Even though their mother was born as a noble, they rarely attended important and prominent events like this. Every time there was an invitation to a wedding or banquet from the alliances, Richard and Raymond always refused to come because they thought such parties were too dull.
Another case with their baby sister. Harmonie was always enthusiastic about meeting new people. So most people knew Harmonie better as the daughter of Stanley and Meisya than them.
They knew that the couple had twins but never knew what they looked like. Hence, Harmonie Calvin was more notable among the friends and business partners of the Calvins.
The twins didnât mind either, as they preferred to live quietly together with people who didnât know who their parents were. They had puberty and started to know people around them enjoyed licking their shoes once they realized who their parents were.
In this case, the two had the same way of thinking as Chleo. It might be because they admired Chleo beyond one could imagine that they unconsciously copied everything that girl did.
No matter how big their distaste for wearing tuxedos was, they were still willing to wear them because their beloved older sister had invited them. It would bring shame if they wore casual clothes and didnât want to cause trouble for Chleo, even though Richard kept whining afterward.
By the time they arrived at the main hall, Richard was still rubbing his sizzling ear from his motherâs death-twisting when Kendrich approached them with two little girls.
They knew Kendrich also had a baby sister like them, but none of these little girls was the boyâs sister. Who are these two adorable girls? And where is Melodie?
âHey, Richie, donât tell me that Aunt Meisya twisted your ear again. You must be naughty.â
Richard rolled his eyes lazily at his cousinâs mocking remarks. He was still irritated and sulking, so he didnât notice two pairs of black eyes staring curiously at him.
âWow, Kenken. I didnât know you had two daughters.â Raymond countered Kendrichâs mocking to defend his twin brother.
The twins had contradictory natures, but they had the similar trait. They would never let anyone, including their own family, mock their sibling, even if it was a joke.
Hearing the defense of his brother, Richard did not wait for time to continue the attack that his brother had launched.
âHahaha... Since when did you become a babysitter? Have you started a daycare service business? How much is your wage? Iâm pretty sure you asked their parents a lot, right, since youâre so stingy with your wallet.â but he was overboard.
âRichie,â and Raymond realized it.
âWhat?â
Raymond noticed one of the girls blushed and lowered her head.
âYouâre crossing the line. Behave now.â
Alas, he was insensitive and couldnât understand his brotherâs slight warning. âWhat do I do wrong?â
âLetâs say they are Moni and Meli. Do you want other boys to say to them what you said about them?â
Donât mistreat someone if you donât want to be treated the same. This was the upbringing their mother taught them.
If they didnât wish their baby sisters to receive humiliation from others, they shouldnât insult other peopleâs children either.
In the end, Richard complied and held out his hand.
âIâm very sorry. I was only teasing my brother; believe me, I had no intention of ridiculing you or your parents.â
The little girl who had lowered her head raised her face and welcome Richardâs hand.
âThank you.â replied the girl meekly but smiled sweetly.
âMy name is Richard. You?â
âIâm Michelle. And this is my sister. Her name is Anxia. Xiao Xia, come to say hello to them.â Michelle coaxed her sister gently.
âMy name is Anxia. Nice to meet you.â her bird-chirping-like voice invited a friendly smile from Raymond. Not to mention, her toothy grin looked so sweet and genuine.
âHello, Xiao Xia. My name is Raymond. How old are you?â
âIâll be eight this year.â
âEight? Youâre so young, but you already can speak the common language fluently.â
Xiao Xia gave him a light giggle, âThank you, gege. It took me weeks to master English.â
âGege? Ah, you mean brother? Just call me Ray.â
âEn! Okay, Ray!â Anxia exclaimed like a child who was excited as if she had got a new toy.
Raymond nudged Richard to introduce himself to Anxia quickly, but when Richard was about to speak to Anxia, ??the little girl had already spoken to her sister.
âJiejie, Iâm hungry,â Anxia whined while tugging at the hem of Michelleâs sleeve.
Anxiaâs whining made Richard raise an eyebrow. He was sure the little girl had glanced at him and seen him about saying something. But why did he feel that the girl deliberately didnât let him talk?
âHold on a second, Xiao Xia. The adults still havenât made their way to the dining table, and it would be impolite for us to eat before our elders. Do you forget about the basic manner?â
Anxia pouted her mouth, but she didnât give up. She hugged Micheleâs leg like an abandoned puppy.
âCome on, jiejie. I canât hold on. My tummy aches, asking to be filled. Hm?â
âNo is still no.â this time, Michelle answered firmly while using her mother tongue.
Anxiaâs eyes were teary, but she still didnât want to give up. She shifted her eyes to give Kendrich puppy eyes.
Kendrich felt cold sweat dripping off his head when he felt a sharp stab from behind. He glanced behind him and saw his father glaring at him.
Before this, he had received orders from his father. He had to accompany Michelle and Anxia and make them feel at home while their parents were away.
Now, after receiving the puppy eyes from Anxia and his fatherâs glare, how could he refuse the girlâs request?
âMichelle, we can grab a light snack. How about we go to the sweet corner?â
âWe can do that? Let me in!â Anxia instantly let go of her sisterâs feet and went straight to Kendrich. âLetâs go there!â as excited as she was, Anxia pulled Kendrichâs hand with her two tiny hands without giving a second glance to Richard.
âLooks like your sister found her favorite gege.â
Michelle sighed at the comment from Raymond. âForgive my sister. She usually behaved.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
âThatâs okay. Thatâs how my baby sister behaved when sheâs moody.â
Raymond and Michelle exchanged pleasantries while Richardâs mood worsened at receiving that rude, naughty little girl.
