59 Ch. 59 Desperate
After Lori finished eating, Richard ordered the maid to take his daughter back to her room. Then Richard ordered another servant to bring a pet dog in the kennel to the food room.
The maid was dumbfounded by that strange order but remained silent since she had been trained not to ask any of her masterâs orders.
While waiting for the maid to take the dog, Richard and Anxia looked at each other without making a sound. The twoâs expressions were still the same, blank look with no emotion on their faces. But each emitted sharp eyes that could make anyone who saw them break out in a cold sweat.
Richard looked at Anxia with an interested gaze while Anxia didnât hide her intention to draw the knife she held into Richardâs neck.
Anxia was exceptionally skilled at using knives, not for cooking, but for taking human lives. So she knew she would have killed Richard easily using this meat course knife. Yet, she knew Richard wouldnât let her harm him that easily.
Anxia was willing to let the man live for Loriâs sake, and she was even ready to be that manâs wife and cut off her tie with her accomplices. But just because of that paper...
That damn paper... Richard brought her here where she should be out there to save her beloved friend. How could she not be angry?
Her determination to kill this man was absolute, and she would do anything to make it true, even if Lori hated her because of this.
Not long after, the dog that Richard asked for arrived, and as ordered, the maid lowered the dog right next to his feet.
.....
Richard took the plate containing his food, then placed it in front of the dog. Smelling the delicious aroma of Richardâs dish, the dog gobbled the food that should have been destined for its master!
This made the maid widen in disbelief when she saw it. The maids didnât have the facilities to enjoy the delicious food served to the royals, but this master gave the food to a dog instead.
On the other hand, Anxia growled inwardly. She didnât expect Richard to give his food to a dog at all! She had spilled the rest of the poison she had into the food.
When Richard asked her to hand over all weapons, communication, and tracking devices, Anxia gave up everything. But not with her toxin vial.
The man didnât ask her to hand over the poison she had, so she didnât reveal her aces.
Who would have thought that Richard would even give the food she had poisoned to this placeâs pet dog?
Or maybe... the man was already suspicious of her?n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Her grip tightened on the knife as she thought about the answer to her last question.
Not long after, the dog that had eaten Richardâs food suddenly squeaked in pain. Its tiny body curled up like a ball, and its whining was so pitiful that Richard couldnât bear it.
âTake the dog to the doctor T.â Richardâs command in a cold tone made the maid, who was shocked to see the condition of the dog she was carrying, immediately rush to obey her masterâs orders.
She picked up the dog and immediately ran to the doctorâs office.
Richard turned to face his wife, who was now looking increasingly fierce at him.
âIt seems that from now on, I will have to be careful about what I consume in this place. I wonder how you found poison in this place. Or did you keep it on purpose and didnât give it to me when I asked for all your weapons?â
Anxia still refused to answer because she was too angry and felt furious, yet again she failed to kill this person.
Richard pushed his chair back, making the sound of the chair scraping against the floor, then walked around to his wife, who was sitting across the table.
Just before Richard approached his wife, Anxia had already made a move by pointing her knife at Richardâs chest, but Richardâs reaction was faster, and he immediately dodged her attack.
Richard also expected Anxia to use another hand and immediately spread her legs to hold Anxiaâs hand and then push Anxiaâs body onto the table.
Deftly, Richard held Anxiaâs other hand behind her back while applying a slight pressure causing a painful moan from Anxiaâs throat.
âYou did a good job putting poison on my plate. If Rossie hadnât told me that you had put something on my plate, I would have been like the poor dog earlier.â
It was true. If this palace had not had a surveillance system and protection from Rossieâs digital assistant, Richard would never have known that the food in front of him had been poisoned.
It wasnât the food that poisoned, as it would danger their daughter too. But Anxia smartly smeared the colorless and odorless poison on his plate!
Anxia gritted her teeth in frustration. Now she understood why this man had challenged her to try to kill him.
She was in the manâs territory. Any plans or actions that harm the man would be exposed.
For the first time, Anxia felt helpless and utterly hopeless. She had never felt this hopeless when she heard that her mother was in Frankfurt and Master Yu was after her mother.
She also never felt this despair, even though she encountered tough opponents in her dangerous missions. She was always confident and able to conquer her enemies with ease.
But now... she was utterly helpless against this man, and she had lost badly even though the game had not started as long as her opponent was Richard Calvin.
Anxia bit her lip hard without realizing that the bite was too hard to bleed. But Anxia didnât care because she didnât feel any pain in her lips.
The feelings that dominated her mind the most were anger, helplessness, and also... the determination to take Richardâs life with her own hands!
She no longer thought about her daughterâs happiness as she was too blind by her anger and hatred.
Anxia would think of a way to comfort her daughter at another time. For now, her heart was burning with desire to kill the man who had let her beloved friend die at Master Yuâs hands!
