297 Ch. 297 Jamie Arc (part 11) The Struggling
âJamie, tell me. What happened to you? You canât possibly come here because your mother is gone, right? You must have another reason. Is it because of this childâs father?ân/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Jamie couldnât answer because her hands were shaking as if she had been brought back to the night when Lawrence touched her and forced herâshe cried, lowered her head as she couldnât look straight at Loraineâs.
Loraine felt frustrated because Jamie didnât tell her anything, and she finally sat on the floor with the girl and hugged her while patting Jamieâs back gently.
âItâs my fault. I wasnât with you when you needed me; Iâm sorry. I should have taken you away, too, and we should get out of my house together. Itâs my fault.â
Jamie shook her head upon hearing her friend blaming herself. She came here wasnât because she wished to see Loraine feel guilty. But her hands trembled so much that she couldnât move a muscle.
âJamie, tell me. Who has done this to you?â Loraine planned to take revenge on anyone who had tarnished her sister-like friend. Who dared take advantage of the sister of Loraine Shu?
At first, Jamie doesnât want to tell Loraine, but Loraine has her own way of making Jamie unable to hide this harsh reality any longer.
In the end, Jamie admitted that Lawrence, Loraineâs older brother, was the one who stained her repeatedly, breaking her mind and soul.
Loraine became a statue in place, and her tongue felt numb, as if someone had clamped it so she couldnât speak. She knew Lawrence was looking at Jamie lustfully because the man had never hidden his primal monster instincts. But she didnât think her brother could do the deed as she believed their father made it clear that no one could touch Jamie.
.....
Did her father undo his protection toward Jamie?
Loraine clenched her fists, and her eyes filled with great rage. Not only was her father a merciless killer man, but her older brother turned out to be a scum, worthless man. She felt ashamed of being born into the Shu family and even disgusted because she bore the Shu surname.
Even though she now took the name Zhou after marrying Yu Hue, Loraine still couldnât get rid of the name Shu in her mind as if it had been imprinted into her soul.
She had the urge to go to China to beat up her brother right now and demanded her fatherâs explanation. But⦠she couldnât be careless. She had Anxia with her, and her main priority was her daughter.
âJamie⦠Iâm sorry. Iâm really sorry and hate my brother for hurting you like this. But can you not kill this child? After knowing that this child is my nephew, I especially donât want you to abort him. This kid is innocent, and he knows nothing about the monsterâs depravity toward you. Let this child live, hm?â
Jamie did not move from her place and continued to cry. âI promise I wonât let anyone touch you,â voiced Loraine in a confident tone as she hugged her best friend.
Ultimately, Jamie agreed to Loraineâs wish. Maybe because she was already pregnant for several months, Jamie began to feel her maternal instincts kicking in. Without realizing it, her hands stroked her enlarged stomach every day.
A month before the delivery, the Zhou family received terrible news from the company where Yu Hue worked. Mister Wong gave him a pay cut because they found evidence of embezzlement of company funds in Yu Hueâs bank account.
That day Yu Hue was under pressure and confirmed to his boss and co-workers that he had been framed. Someone had slandered and wanted to bring him down, but no one believed him.
Even his own father didnât believe him either and ridiculed him for how stupid he was for taking shortcuts. Only Loraine believed him because she knew all these traps were Yu Longâs doing.
One night, Yu Hue couldnât stand the pressure of work and his fatherâs ridicule, who recently started comparing his work performance to that of his late brother.
He decided to vent to Loraine while Jamie overheard their conversation.
âI donât understand. Why is all this happening? We lived just fine without disturbing anyone in this country. But why? Why would anyone be so adamant about getting rid of me?â Thinking about it anyway, Yu Hue couldnât understand why anyone would hate him so much.
Seeing her husband depressed and confused to death, Loraine couldnât bear it and decided to tell him about her identity.
âYu Hue⦠I have something to hide from you.â
Loraine exposed her true identity and told him from beginning to end. She was the daughter of Deke Shu, and she ran away because her father forced her to marry Yu Long.
Now Yu Long attacked them because Loraine ran away on their wedding day.
Jamie, who looked from behind the slightly open door, also felt her heart pounding as if she was Loraine, who was now kneeling under her husbandâs feet.
âIâm truly sorry. Since you married me, many bad things have happened, and it seems that I am the bearer of bad luck.â sounded Loraine, lowering her head without daring to look at her husband.
Yu Hueâs current position was his back facing Jamie so that Jamie couldnât see the manâs expression. But judging by his tense posture, Jamie could tell he was trying to contain his anger.
Jamie immediately ran and hid behind the cabinet when he saw Yu Hue suddenly standing up and walking with vast strides.
His expression was hard to read, and Jamie could only hear his friendâs sobs.
Jamie wondered if, at that time, Jamie had told Loraine to confess to her husband before the marriage, would things have been different?
Perhaps the Zhou family would anticipate Yu Longâs impending attack in advance, and maybe the Zhou family could move abroad while their company was not yet bankrupt.
But⦠it was all too late, and now⦠they were on a dead end.
Jamie thought her fate as a mute girl was miserable; she was raped and now lived alone without her family members. Jamie assumed Loraineâs life was much better than hers and could live freely according to her wishes. Thus, she looked for Loraineâs wings, hoping the girl could provide protection and secure feelings.
Who would have thought that Loraine and her family also struggled to survive?
Jamie didnât want to add to their burdens by being here, let alone letting the kind-hearted family accept her baby. Thatâs why Jamie decided to leave.
She left a letter on the dresser in Loraineâs room. She thanked Loraine for accepting her and giving her mental support even though Loraine had her own burdens.
But now⦠it was time for her to go.
Jamie decided to return to Singapore and spend the rest of her life there. After all, she would no longer be alone once her child was born. She would live with her child, and that was enough for her.
