269 Ch. 269 Elliot Blamed Himself
Richard led Elliot back to the bed and then sat beside the boy after wiping away the rest of his sonâs tears. He unbuttoned his sonâs pajama collar, and his jaw tightened as he saw the bruises on his sonâs neck.
Richard recalled his fight with the man with the scarred face. He learned from his interaction that Deke Shu was indeed his wifeâs grandfather and Elliot was the older manâs heir.
Then, where is Deke Shu now? If that sly old man truly treasured his grandson to the point of willingly giving all of his power over to Elliot, that person should be here and protect his great-grandson from the likes of Song Lei.
âPapa ... papa, itâs hurt.â Elliotâs words stirred his thoughts, and he let a tiny hand touch his now slightly swollen cheek. When he was fighting Song Lei, a few of Song Leiâs punches hit his face causing a purple-blue bruise.
âWho hit you?â
âDonât worry. I won the fight.â
If only Anxia were there, she would surely slap Richard again, given the father had taught his son about fighting.
âYou won?â the twinkling look evident in Elliotâs eyes made Richard chuckle.
âThatâs why you donât need to worry about anything and never be afraid of that person. Iâve beaten him, so Iâm sure he wonât dare to come at you.â
.....
Elliot smiled happily and rested his palms on his fatherâs thighs.
âPapa⦠do you have to go now?â
âNo. Iâll go after you sleep.â
âPromise?â
âPromise. Now go to sleep.â
âEn.â Elliot complied and lay down enthusiastically. He didnât stop smiling when his father covered him with a thick blanket. Elliot wanted to look at his fatherâs face a little longer because he knew Richard would leave once he fell asleep. But the gentle caress on the top of his head made his eyelids feel heavy.
He didnât know when his eyes started to close, but he heard a voice in his ear.
âI told you, Iâm always watching over you even though Iâm not by your side. Sorry, I came late. I promise this wonât happen again.â
The voice was so soft it was barely audible that Elliot thought what he heard was a dream. He also dreamed of someone kissing his forehead, and suddenly, his dream was interrupted by a ray of sunshine sneaking in from behind his window.
Elliot blinked his eyes repeatedly, and his heart felt sad instantly when he didnât find his father. But his sadness didnât last long, considering that his mother would come to his room. But before that, he wanted to see Mei Yin and Jamie to see if they were both okay.
When Elliot walked out, the nanny stood outside to greet him in front of his room.
âGood morning Xiao Guang. Do you sleep well?â
Elliot swallowed hard as he didnât expect the nanny to come to his room so early in the morning. âIt was... quite peaceful.â Elliot decided to answer the nannyâs question.
âThatâs good because you probably wonât be able to sleep well after this.â
âWhat do you mean?â Elliot asked in a voice so low it was almost a whisper.
âOh, my poor thing. You donât know what happened to Mei Yin and Jamie?â
Elliotâs black eyes widened, and a pool of tears began to appear in their place.
âWh⦠What happened?â
âThey are hurt, and Iâm afraid they canât get up for a while.â
âWhy⦠What happen?â Elliot could barely contain his tears, seeing the nannyâs indifferent look.
âItâs all your fault.â
Elliot was walking backward without realizing it as the nanny lowered her head and looked at him accusingly.
âItâs all because you donât want to stay with your lonely grandmother. You intend to leave her so your grandmother will have no choice but to punish the people who made you want to leave this place.â
âNo⦠no.â Elliotâs brain function suddenly stopped working, and inside his mind, he blamed himself.
If he disapproved of his mother and insisted on staying here, Jamie and Mei Yin would not be hurt.
Itâs all his faultâthis was all because he didnât want to stay and cooperate with his mother against his grandmother.
Nanny straightened up again, seeing the expression filled with guilt at the little boy. Then she waved toward the end of the corridor as if calling someone.
The next second, a group of people entered Elliotâs room to install bugs in every corner of Elliotâs room. Meanwhile, that child⦠couldnât do anything to prevent it, and he still didnât budge in his place because he was too wrapped up in his guilt.
After ensuring that the bugging device installed in Elliotâs room was functioning properly, the nanny and the people left Elliot alone.
The boy walked silently to his wardrobe, changed into neat clothes, and took a scarf to cover his neck. He knew his mother would be here soon, and he didnât want her to blame him, too, when Anxia saw his neck wound.
At this moment, Elliot was afraid that his mother would blame him, too, though he had no idea why his mother would blame him. Elliotâs mind was too chaotic to think straight. He thought that everyone he loved would leave him and resented him for not being able to protect the two people he loved.
After this⦠maybe Mei Yin and Jamie wouldnât dare go against his grandmother, and now⦠Elliot would be alone in this place.
And now, no matter how hard he prayed that his mother wouldnât force him to get up, Anxia didnât give up and settled him on his lap. Elliot didnât even have the strength to stop his mother from removing his scarf and seeing the bruises on his neck.
The moment Elliot felt his motherâs body suddenly tensing up, he knew⦠his mother was angry.
âSorry⦠Iâm sorry. Itâs all my fault.â Elliot was too afraid that his mother would hate him, so he decided to apologize first.
On the other hand, Anxia was at a loss for words after hearing her sonâs apologies and the childâs sobs.
Why does Elliot even apologize and blame himself??
