172 Ch. 172 A Family Warmth
The following day, Anxiaâs eyelids flutteredâwere opened and blinked a few timesâand closed as if she was still drowsy. Her whole body ached, making her lazy to moveâshe felt numb, and her muscles tensed as if she had done some extreme activities.
It took a couple of minutes for Anxia to recall what had happened to herâshe remembered the sudden ambush and the gunshot in her shoulder.
She already expected itâonce she got entangled in the assassin world, no matter how much she wanted to get out, Anxia could never be free from her past.
Anxia stared at the ceiling blankly. The fact she had opened her eyes and was staring at the ceiling of her roomâshe knew she was still alive and had returned home safely.
How could she not be alive? If Xuemin truly wanted herâwanted Michele dead, she would be dead by now. Not to mention, that man had shot all her assailants dead. Not long after, Richard found her right before she lost consciousness. Even though she didnât know what happened after she met her husband, Anxia was sure that Richard would not just let her die.
Hence, Anxia wasnât too confused that she still survived despite losing much blood.
But only when she glanced to her left and noticed a head sleeping in an uncomfortable position did Anxia feel stunned. Not only on her left but on her right was another head sleeping while holding his hand.
Richard slept in a sitting position with his back bent to her left, while Harmonie fell asleep on her other side facing her while holding her right hand.
Her heart felt warm, realizing how deep the attention her husband and sister-in-law gave her. This is what it would be like if she had a familyâthe family Anxia thought she would never have.
.....
Before she met Richard, no one cared about Anxia. They let her get sick and wished her a quick death if she felt unwell. Anxia had to take care of her health independently and take care of herself if she was injured or sick. Only Ling Meng was willing to accompany and care for her like a sister. But the girl couldnât be with Anxia all the time because Ling Meng often got missions from Master Yu to hack.
As a result, Anxia could only rely on herself and never expect the help of others.
When she reunited with Richard and married him, Anxia still paid attention to her health. Even though she had opened her heart to Richard and tried to rely on him, she still couldnât get rid of her habit of having to take care of herself.
This was the first time she had fallen ill and had a fever since she had officially become master Yuâs assassin. And this was the first time Anxia had someone to accompany her and care for her. She started to regret thinking it would be better if she died.
Anxia knew that if she left this world, Lori would cry, and her husband would mourn her loss. Not only Richard and Lori but Harmonie would be grieving as well.
Anxia felt grateful that she was alive and wanted nothing more than to see her husbandâs face every time she woke up in the morning. She raised her left hand to touch her husbandâs brown hairâshe stroked it gently so as not to wake Richard, but it seemed the man was still awake when he felt something touch his head.
âXia Xia? Xia Xia! Youâve woken up!â Richard immediately raised his head, and his expression brightened as soon as he saw his wifeâs pair of black eyes looking at him.
The loud sound of Richardâs exclamation woke Harmonie up, and the girl sat up directly to see Anxiaâs face.
âAnxia, ??you finally woke up. I thought I would lose you.â
âMoni, I should have said that.â was Richardâs comment upon hearing his sisterâs remark.
âXia Xia, I am thrilled you have returned to me.â Richard gave light kisses all over Anxiaâs face making the girl giggle. âFrom now on, you canât leave my sight. I wonât let you go alone,â continued Richardâhe did not want to be denied.
âAnxia, ??Iâm sorry. I shouldnât have brought you there.â
âMoni, itâs not your fault. I should have contacted Richard as soon as I sensed someone was following us.â
âWhat? You sensed someone following us? Since when?â Harmonie was stunnedâcouldnât believe Anxia had sensed someone else stalking them.
âWhy didnât you tell me when I arrived?â Richard wished he could be angry but couldnât when he heard a pained groan escape from Anxiaâs lips. âDoes it still hurt?â
Anxia smiled slightly as she managed to divert her husbandâs focus. âNot anymoreâmy head just ⦠a little dizzy.â Anxia massaged her forehead with her uninjured left hand.
âYou better go back to sleep. are you hungry? What do you want to eat?â
âMaybe⦠light ones?â
âI will have the chef cook porridge for you,â said Harmonie. âI will also tell the others that Anxia is awake.â
Richard nodded in agreement while not forgetting to thank his younger sister again.
âAw⦠sheâs so cute. I didnât know she was so worried about me. Ouch! Why did you flick me? You realize Iâm a patient!â Anxia grumbled while stroking her forehead.
âA patient has never been chatty. Besides, why did you throw your phone away?â
Anxia gaped in disbelief at her husbandâs accusation without proof. âYou think I threw my phone away on purpose? I was about to call you when I realized I had lost my phone. I didnât know I dropped it.â
âOkay. Letâs say you accidentally dropped itâBut does that mean you can go after a criminal alone? Who do you think you are? A detective? Do you know what I will do to the people who have attacked you if you donât wake up today?â
For some reason, Anxia felt interested in what the man was going to do instead of thinking about calming her husbandâs emotions.
âWhat would you do?â
âIâll send them to the lab to become scientific guinea pigs.ân/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Anxia laughed out loud at her husbandâs sentence. She knew what kind of scientist her husband meantâthe group of scientists led by Sheylie to test the level of poison that can be used for medicine or vice versa.
If the trials failed, there was the possibility of quite painful side effects in the âguinea pig.â
Alas, all of her assailants had dead. How fortunate.
