159 Ch. 159 The Brothersâ Talk
Richard decided to walk over to Anxia with his footsteps echoing into Anxiaâs ears.
Hearing someone walking closer made Anxia instantly snap out of her reverie. She stood up while straightening her back and putting on a cheerful face.
âXia Xia, you took so long. Oh, whereâs Michele?â Richard walked up to his wife while looking left and right as if he was looking for his sister-in-law.
âSheâs back in her room,â Anxia remembered her promise to tell Richard anything if something happened. But this time, Anxia wanted to hide it.
âThen why are you still here? You donât want to come back to me?â
âIâ¦â strangely, Anxiaâs stepped backward as Richard approached her.
âWhy are you avoiding me? Are you still mad at me?â
Anxia shook her head quickly but didnât dare to look at her husband. She was afraid, and her guilt for her past sins began to resurface to gnaw at her. She knew that Richard loved his family very much, and she knew that Richard must also treasure Michele as his sister-in-law.
Richard could understand his wifeâs hesitation because he could more or less read her thoughts. With a slow and gentle approach, Richard closed the distance between the two and wrapped one arm around Anxiaâs slender waist. He lifted his wifeâs chin with the other hand to see a pair of her beautiful pearl-like eyes.
.....
âXia Xia, I love you. It doesnât matter what your past was like or what youâve doneâI love you. And I wonât let you go. Remember this well. Donât you ever forget it.â
Richard shifted his hand from Anxiaâs chin to the back of the girlâs head. Then Richard gave his wife a firm kiss on the forehead to convey the sincerity of his reclamation.
How magical. Listening to Richardâs expressions of love and getting a kiss on her forehead can eliminate all her worries and fears. Anxia held the hem of Richardâs shirt tightly and buried her head in her husbandâs chest, enjoying his masculine scent.
âLetâs go back, shall we?â invited Richard while holding his wifeâs hand to walk to their room.
After ensuring that Anxia was sleeping beside him, Richard got up and slowly got out of bed. He had received a text from Raymond a while ago wanting to talk to him. He left and headed to the reading room, where his brother was waiting for him while drinking wine.
âYou asked me to drink because you couldnât sleep?â Richard asked in a relaxed and joking tone. He still didnât know why Raymond wanted to talk to him in the middle of the night, so he acted normal.
âItâs been a long time since we drank together. I wonder if your tolerance is still as bad as before?â
Richard rolled his eyes at his brotherâs teasing. âJust so you know, my tolerance has increased lately.â
âOh yeah? Then let me tell you something. My tolerance has greatly increased over the past three years, and I believe you will be the first to get drunk as always.â
âHahaha⦠so funny. Is that something you should be proud of?â
Clink! Richard and Raymond both toasted each other before drinking the wine in each glass.
âSo, what do you want to talk about?â
âMichele already admitted it to me.â
âAdmit what?â
âShe said you caught her bullying your wife.â
âShe did?â
Raymond laughed at the astonishment of his twin brother. âWell, she cried for making you angry. Brother Richie, you must reduce the tension in your facial muscles whenever you scold someone. Otherwise, you will make everyone cry when you reprimand people.â
âOkay, my bad. But I will not apologize.â
âI know. She deserved it.â Raymondâs sudden unexpected remark caused Richard to raise an eyebrow. âNow you know I choose you over my wife in this regard. You are my number one.â
Richard shuddered at that as if a sissy was stroking his chest. âStop that. I got goosebumps hearing that from you.â Richardâs complaint made Raymond chuckle.
âSo?â
âIf Michele doesnât tell you, I wonât tell you either,â came his unwavering answer.
âWhoever said there shouldnât be secrets between us? Someone insisted on forcing me to tell him before I acted, even though I was sure I could save Michele alone at that time.â
ââ¦â
âNow that I think about it, what did I ask for his help? I should have done everything myself, so my wife would only think of me. But instead, he made my wife owe him a life, and now he made her cry. I feelââ
âOkay, okay. Iâll tell you,â cut Richard, unable to hear the nagging of his twin brother. âDo you remember when we first met Michele on the highway? That time our driver almost hit her.â
âYeah. There was a knife stuck in her abdomen.â
âThat knife belonged to my wife.â
ââ¦â
âAnxia⦠She would have killed Michele for real if we hadnât crossed paths with your wife then.â Richard glanced at his brother, trying to read what Raymond was thinking. But Raymond didnât react and just kept a straight face. âRei?â
âSince when did you know that?â
âJust now. When Michele threatened her, she said everything.â
Hearing his twin brotherâs answer, Raymond poured a full glass of wine, then gulped it down in one gulp. âIâve always felt proud to have a better alcohol tolerance than you. I wish my tolerance were so low that I could get drunk and forget about this.â
Richard patted Raymond on the shoulder encouragingly.
âYou married a killer,â stated Raymond, causing Richardâs pat to stop midway. âDoes our father know about it?â
âHe does. But he doesnât know that Anxia almost killed his daughter-in-law once.â
Raymond took a deep breath, âOkay. Then I can only accept this fact. I hope no other assassination plot will occur.â
âThere wonât be. I vouch for her on it.â
Raymond snorted in amusement at his overconfident brother. âIt must be tough for you to tame her.â
âDonât make me say it.â
The two brothers laughed together while enjoying their wine until they couldnât help but fall asleep.
