Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin
Grayson's POV
My next lines, what was it again?
When Cathy makes a spring, Heathcliff catches her and flungs himself into the nearest seat, gathering her into his arms in a tight embrace. He covers her with frantic caresses and wildly, he says his next words.
But immediately Ashley flung herself and I caught her in an embrace, I forgot how to think, all I could think of was she in my arms and nothing else. My breathing becomes erratic as my heart thumps loudly in my chest at how intimate we are at the moment.
The next lines, I'm to utter them. What's it again?
You...
You, what?
I think I do remember now.
Clearing my throat, I part my lips and utter, "You teach me now how cruel you've beenâ cruel and false. Why did you despise me? Why did you betray your own heart, Cathy? I have not one word of comfort. You deserve this. You have killed yourself. Yes, you may kiss me, and cry; and wring out my kisses and tears: they'll blight you, they'll damn you. You loved me, then what right had you to leave me." I mimic a tone of being in pain and anguish.
"Let me alone. Let me alone," Ashley utters in a whisper, "If I have done wrong, I'm dying for it. It is enough! You left me too, but I won't upbraid you! I forgive you. Forgive me!"
I pull away and look in her eyes."It is hard to forgive, and look at those eyes," I shut my eyes while rubbing my hand on her cheek, "and feel those wasted hands." I open my eyes and hold both of her hands. I lift them up to my lips and give each hand a peck."Kiss me again and don't let me see your eyes! I forgive what you have done to me. I love my murderer, but yours! How can I?" I say and hug her again, hiding my face in the crook of her neck.
It ticks and tocks.
Grudgingly I begin to pull away, slowly. Ashley notices it, I presume, and starts to pull away too. I let go of her completely, and she does the same. I look at her and we both stare into each other's eyes, my blue orbs penetrating her brown ones.
It fits her perfectly.
It allures me, I get lost in them. She bats her lashes in several blinks and I scurry back into reality, I get up from the bed and stand.
"Uhm..." I scratch the back of my neck nervously, "Let's take a break?"
She nods her head, "Yeah... sure." She gets down from the bed and heads for my door. As she passes by I grab her hand and she looks up at me, surprise clearly written on her face at my action so on instinct I release her hand.
"Sorry," I utter and she nods her head. "I was wondering if you would like to go somewhere."
She seemed taken aback, "I don't know?" She says with uncertainty.
"Anywhere at all, to maybe get some fresh air or release stress a little. We've been in here for long." I press with hopes of her accepting.
She seemed to be in thought for a while before muttering, "Okay."
I smile inwardly at her reply. Not wasting much time I pick up my keys. "Let's go," I say and I let her lead the way as I follow behind. When we reached downstairs, Pierson and Camilla were busy in a conversation. Pierson seemed to have said something funny because before we realized it, they were in fits of laughter, both of them clutching their stomachs. They're getting along pretty quickly. I looked around for Cole but he wasn't anywhere in sight.
As we get closer, "Ashley and I are going out." I inform and they both nod their heads without even looking in our direction.
Wow!!
I turn to Ashley only to see her shrugging, so we leave both of them to themselves.
_______
Immediately we came back, Ashley's possessive boyfriend came to pick her up again, just like he's been doing ever since. What's his name again?
Lucas.
At least that's what I hear people refer to him as.
"Are you home already?" I text her.
I lay on my bed and waited for her reply. Closing my eyes, I think back to the time we were at the park. I looked on as she smiled anytime she saw a child playing with their parent or even going around the park making silly noises. She likes children, that I know now. It feels good to know she likes children. I selectively like kids, not all though. Some kids are just so stubborn, I'm allergic to kind like those. I love sweet kids, they are less troublesome.
Cole has a younger brother, Cade, and he's the epitome of stubbornness. He's the main reason why I dislike stubborn kids. Stubborn kids make you want to pull your hair out in frustration, and Cade tops them all. I've learned to tolerate him, so I guess I'm not allergic to him, besides I know something that can shut him up. Sweets!, that's all there is to shut him up, and maybe playing video games with him. Just let him win and he'll shut up, but if not, prepare for war.
"Just did."Â My phone vibrates with a message notification.
"Goodnight." I text back.
"Sweet dreams."
"You too."
I put off my phone and with the brightest of smiles, I close my eyes and let sleep take over. I didn't even realize when it did.
_______
I wake up and the first thing I do is pick up my phone. "Good morning", I see a text on my lock screen from Smile.
Ashley!
She texted me? Which side of my bed did I sleep on? I have to sleep there again.
Wait!! Am I dreaming? What happened? Let me reply first, and then I can think of that later.
"Good morning. How was your night?" I quickly text as a response.
"Short but fine."
"Sorry if this may sound interrogative, but why was it short? Late-night movies?"
"It's nothing . I was kind of finding it difficult to sleep and I was woken up this early by my parents because there's somewhere we need to be. What of yours?"
"Okay. My night was good."
"It's refreshing to know that yours was better."
"Haha.... I guess."
"Thanks for yesterday, though."
"It's nothing, we both needed the break after practicing so hard."
"I guess so."
"Yeah. What are your plans for the day?"
"Nothing much. Sorry, yesterday I came with an extra to your place."
"It's fine. It's always just the boys and I at home anyways."
"Don't you have any siblings?"
"Nope, I'm an only child."
"Wow! Good for you."
"Why? Is it that troublesome to have siblings?"
"Siblings are annoying."
"And amazing at the same time."
"Yeah, I know right! It's just that sometimes they can get on your nerves real bad."
"I wish I had that feeling."
"I can annoy you if want, just so you could experience it."
"Haha, you're funny."
"That's insulting."
"I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to."
"Gotcha, I'm just kidding."
"Are you sure? I feel so bad right now."
"I was just playing pulling your legs a tad."
"Okay, I thought for a moment you were serious."
"I wasn't, I've got to go. See you later."
"Bye! Have a nice day."
"I will."
I let out a breath, and placed my hand on my chest. Is this how it feels? The feeling is great, I don't know but just texting her feels so great.
"I see!" Pierson's voice cuts through my thoughts. "You and Ashley are getting all cozy."
I turn to face him in alarm, "When did you get here?" I ask.
"I don't know, maybe about five minutes ago or something." He smirks.
I look at him with a frown, "Why didn't you announce your presence, then?" I question.
He chuckles, "And why would I do that? I'm too inquisitive to do that. Creeping in on you has always been fun. Anytime I did it, you caught me most time. I'm indeed surprised that this time around you didn't even notice me. You're so whipped. So so whipped, bro."
"I'm not," I say shaking my head.
He lifts his hands in mock surrender, "Whatever you say, man. Don't say I never told you."
"Have you had breakfast already?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"That's the main reason I came into your room, Madame Patricia asked me to call you for breakfast."
"Let's go then." I climb down from my bed and we both head downstairs.
One thing I do know is that I can't wait to see Ashley again today.
