Junhyuk looked at his car.
âI should walk home.â
âIâll call you a cab.â
âNo. Itâs not that far. I could run home, and the situation with the roads wonât be good for cars.â
The highway was completely shut down. There were big accidents, and the roads were a quagmire. Like Junhyuk had said, it wouldnât be a good idea to walk home.
âYou might be in danger. Youâll need a security team to go with you.â
Junhyuk shook his head.
âI wasnât their target. Things just happened that way, but they wonât come after me again.â
Eunseo looked around. There were just enough security team members to guard her. The others were out.
âWhen you get home, send me a text message.â
âI will.â
Junhyuk said goodbye and headed out. She watched him leave through the front gate and entered the building. Elise was looking at the information on the monitors with Zairaâs help. Eunseo walked in, and Elise turned to look at her.
âZaira, check the CEOâs condition.â
A light came down and scanned her from head to toe.
[Her body has finished recovering. There is some bleeding, so she should be in the infirmary.]
Eunseo shook her head.
âI wonât got to the infirmary,â she said. Then, she looked at Elise and added, âDid you find out who was behind this?â
Elise looked at the monitors and said, âAll five of them belong to Chinaâs Ministry of State Security (MSS), the Chinese intelligence and security agency. They quit their posts sometime between five and ten years ago.â
The screen displayed the pictures of their work as spies. Eunseo looked at them and asked, âWhere did you get this information?â
âWe hacked the MSS, but we have had a hard time tracking their actions. They all quit their posts, so itâs hard for us to find out what theyâve been doing since then. Their information is all analog, so even Zaira canât hack the system.â
âSo, China is behind this?â
âDo you want to me investigate Jowee Jhang?â
âI want everything on him.â
Things had changed since the negotiation with China. Former MSS agents were behind the surprise attack, and this could mean a diplomatic war. South Korea had little to gain from a diplomatic war with China. Guardians wasnât a part of South Korea and didnât have its military backing. They worked for W.A.N.C.S. and the U.N., and China had tried to assassinate the Guardiansâ CEO.
They had failed, so it was time to find out who was responsible. For that, Eunseo and Elise needed evidence.
âWhat about the scene of accident?â
Elise smiled.
âThe TV stations are going crazy. The news is going out worldwide.â
Three stations were covering the incident, and the international news was showing the scene. It had to be that way. There had been seventy-two crashes and a shooting on South Korean soil. With the target being the Guardiansâ CEO, everyone was in an uproar.
Eunseo looked at the monitors and asked, âWhat is that?â
Elise smiled.
âSomeone on the scene filmed it. Itâs all over internet.â
Junhyuk was fighting the agents. Eunseo hadnât expected him to be such a good fighter, and her mouth hung wide.
âItâs on the internet?â
âItâs spreading like wildfire.â
âErase everything.â
Elise turned to look at her.
âAre you sure?â
âErase all the files. Can you erase other peopleâs files?â
Elise smiled.
âYou know I can,â she said and touched the screen. âZaira, you heard her!â
[I will begin.]
Many other screens were on playing the video all over the internet. Elise handed Eunseo a cup of coffee while Zaira deleted all of the files online. Eunseo took the coffee, and Elise smiled.
âWarm yourself.â
She nodded and heard Zairaâs voice.
[Iâve blocked all files, and 123,582 downloaded files are being chased and deleted. Also, I deleted the original file. I will also block similar files on the internet.]
Eunseo nodded and sipped her coffee. She felt her body warming and looked at Elise.
âI must go to the hospital and check on Dohee.â
âIâll alert the security team and call for a helicopter.â
âSora Shinâs power wavelength detector⦠how long before it is complete?â Eunseo asked nonchalantly.
âBasically, we have a short range detector, but weâll have to wait for a long range one. When we complete the long range detector, we will send one to each of the Guardiansâ bases.â
She heard that, handed Elise the cup back and said, âWe will talk more after the hospital.â
â
Junhyuk walked home. The highway was completely sealed in an entire different way from being empty of cars like most days.
He thought about what had happened that day.
âJowee Jhang.â
He thought of China and that man. Jowee had to be behind all of that as there was no other person who wanted the Guardians CEO dead.
At that moment, Guardians was a hot-button issue. The world was watching the Guardians CEO, so Jowee had to be very audacious.
Junhyuk looked to the East and clenched his fists. Jowee hadnât come after him, but he couldnât let it be. He was deep in thought about the men when his burner phone rang. Junhyuk picked it up, and Sarang sounded very worried on the other side.
âBig brother, are you OK?â
âMe? Iâm fine.â
âI saw it on the internet. Didnât you get hit by a bullet?â
âYes, but Iâm OK.â
âReally?â
Junhyuk pressed his fingers against his eyelids and answered, âYes. Itâs probably because of my itemsâ defenses.â
âPhew! Big brother, your internet videos have all been erased. Everyone is curious.â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âThe files concerning you canât be uploaded to the internet. All files are being deleted. Nothing concerning you can get on the internet.â
âPeople canât upload anything?â
âYes. Nobody can upload, and everything is being deleted. Do you know whatâs going on?â
He shook his head and thought of something. He knew of something that could monitor the internet and delete files. The Guardiansâ supercomputer Zaira could do it, but he hadnât expected that.
He wasnât sure if Zaira could get in to personal computers and delete files.
âI can guess, but Iâm not sure. Iâll call you back.â
âOK, but who is behind all this?â
Junhyuk clicked his tongue.
âGuardians had problems with China. I think itâs the Chinese.â
âThen you shouldâve been more careful. The videos showed you beating the crap out those people, so they might come after you again.â
âThen, they must know who theyâve awoken.â
Junhyuk thought of what Artlan had told him. He must kill those who come after him, and Sarang realized what he was thinking.
âBig brother! When is your housewarming party?â
âHousewarming party?â
âYou moved, so you have to invite people over! Are you thinking about not inviting me?â
Suddenly, he felt more relaxed.
âIâll invite you.â
âReally?â
âYeah.â
Jeffrey was living next door, but he could teleport in and out of his house without anyone noticing, and he had to include Sarang in any housewarming party.
âIâll invite you for this weekend.â
âYou promise? Iâll have time this weekend.â
âYes.â
âThen, talk to you later.â
Feeling more relaxed, he hung up and kept walking. Once he got home, he turned the TV on. All stations were covering the seventy-two crashes on the highway and the shooting incident that took place on broad daylight.
Junhyuk opened a can of beer and watched the TV.
There were seven dead and eighty-three wounded. It was a disaster. He drank his beer and crushed the can.
âTheyâve caused this disaster!â
In fact, they had only come after Eunseo. If Junhyuk hadnât attacked, the casualties wouldâve been lower since no one wouldâve made U-turns on the highway.
However, he blamed everything on them.
He teleported to the refrigerator, took out another can of beer and drank it all in one shot. Junhyuk connected his smartphone to the TV and brought up the materials Zaira had sent him.
He summoned his swords and trained while watching the videos. He was able to mimic a few movements, but he had to adapt them to his style.
Not everyone had humanoid forms at the Dimensional Battlefield. Doctor Tula had eight legs, and Bater was much bigger than him. The videos showed fights against human enemies, so he had to adapt them to nonhuman entities. Junhyuk imagined an enemy and adjusted the movements.
His swords soundly split the air.
â
Eunseo was sitting on her wheelchair in front of the operating room. The Regeneration Project couldnât be known to the world yet, and since she had been shown riding her wheelchair already, she couldnât walk around normally.
She waited until a doctor came out and spoke to her, âThe tough part is over, but even if she recovers, she wonât be the same.â
âIs there a problem?â
âWe pulled a bullet out of her spine, and she will be paralyzed from the waist down.â
Eunseo touched her head and asked, âSheâll be like me?â
The doctor looked grave and nodded.
âItâs a miracle she survived.â
Eunseo sighed deeply.
âSheâll survive?!â
âYes.â
âCan you transfer her?â
The doctor was surprised by the question and answered, âSheâll survive, but transferring her is difficult.â
âGive her whatever she needs.â
The doctor nodded.
âI will do my best.â
He went back to the O.R., and Eunseo took out her cell phone and called someone. It rang three times before she heard Doyeolâs voice.
âIâve been calling you. What happened?â
âSome people shot us. My cellphone was destroyed in the process.â
She had gotten a new phone from the security team.
âElise told me what happened. Jowee is behind all of this?!â
âYes, I already ordered an investigation.â
âIâll look into it as well.â
âThanks, big brother. I must ask you a favor.â
âAnything.â
âDohee was hurt protecting me. Sheâs a paraplegic now, and I want to help her.â
Doyeol was silent, and Eunseo continued, âWithout her, I wouldâve been killed.â
âOK. Iâll get things ready.â
