âI love you, Alyssa Taylor. Iâve fallen for you.â
Alyssa held her breath and stumbled backward without knowing it. Only she would understand the mixed feelings from hearing Jasperâs love confession.
They could hear each otherâs heart beating in the silence.
âI would have accepted your confession right away if it happened in the three years we were married.
But itâs too late now. I told you before that my feelings for you had expired. I no longer love you,â Alyssa responded with a stoic look in her eyes.
âIâm sorry. I know my confession comes too late, but Iâm not one to give up when I set my mind to something,â Jasper argued, his forehead dotted with sweat.
He wanted to go up to her but feared that he might scare her off. âItâs fine if you donât love me. Iâll be the one who sacrifices for you this time around. Iâll-â
He wanted to say, âIâll love youâ. He never told Liana he loved her, but he had an urge to use the word on Alyssa.
âEnough. I do not need the love from a man Iâm not interested in. How many times do I need to repeat myself?â To shut him up, she threatened, âIâll turn around and leave if you keep spouting nonsense.â
That immediately silenced him. After a while, when Alyssa looked much more composed, he cautiously asked, âI wonât bring it up anymore. Will you stay the night?â
âPfft. Dream on.â
âYou said youâd grant me a promise if I save you, as long as itâs not something outrageous,â Jasper persisted.
âLast night, you-â She recalled how Jasper had kissed her in the same room yesterday.
He had pinned her by the waist and showered her with a long, passionate kiss. She blushed at the thought as heat rose in her body.
âOh, are you talking about the kiss? That doesnât count,â Jasper said in a low voice as he grinned, pleasured by the sight of her embarrassment.
âThat doesnât count?â she raised her voice in shock. She finally realized how cunning Jasper could be and that she should really stay away from him.
âSure, I forced a kiss on you, but you counterattacked,â he said, pointing at the scab on his lip. âHereâs the evidence.â
âYou deserved it! Iâd tear your lips to pieces if I could, you pervert!â Her cheeks reddened in anger at the thought of his advance.
âOkay. Go ahead,â Jasper invited her with a straight face, even leaning backward as a welcoming gesture.
She gritted her teeth. How she wished she could kick him off his bed to wipe that gleeful smile off his face!
She didnât want to argue further with Jasper, who had guilt-tripped her. Instead, she caved in and decided to stay the night.
Since she arrived at the hospital in a rush, she did not bring anything with her. She had to request Sean to bring her some pajamas and daily essentials from her Solana City villa.
Sean returned to the hospital soon with a somber expression. He walked down the corridor with a tiny suitcase in his hand.
âSorry for the trouble, Sean. You should get home and rest now. Pick me up tomorrow morning,â Alyssa thanked Sean and was about to take the suitcase from him, but he refused to let go of it.
He implored her, âMs. Alyssa, come home with me.â
âI know Jasper has thrown out a sudden request, but itâs not a big deal to me. I donât mind paying him back this way,â Alyssa explained calmly.
âBut youâll share a room with him! What if heâs up to no good and⦠and â¦â
âI was once married to him. If he really wanted to take advantage of me, he wouldnât have waited until today.â
âBut-â
Alyssa waved off Sean and reassured him, âJasper might be a jerk, but he understands the law. If he ever forces himself on me, Iâll castrate him.â
