Jasper stood there, unfazed by the words hurled at him. He was immune to the shaming as he had gone through it many times.
Jonah approached him with a sour face and advised him, âMr. Beckett, Lyse hasnât met Liam for a long time. I think sheâd prefer meeting him over you. Your presence will not help her recovery.
âYouâll only be standing in the way of a family reunion. You donât have to worry now that sheâs with family.
Thereâs no reason for you to stay. Please go home.â
Jonahâs eyes looked dead as he addressed Jasper in a flat tone. Despite that, Jasper felt the stabbing pain from Jonahâs words that froze his blood.
Outside the hospital, the outpour had stopped. The skies brightened, like a melancholic swath of blue velvet.
Jasper walked out with heavy footsteps, gripping a wet coat in his hand. He seemed to feel Alyssaâs lingering warmth on the fabric. Feeling chilly, he clutched the coat tighter. 1 âJasper, Lyse has given up too much for you.â
âDid you know that she almost lost her life because of you? To go after you, she-â
To go after him? What for? What had she given up?
Jasper wondered what had happened before this. He was plagued by Liamâs words. It was then he felt a head-splitting headache creeping up.
âJasper!â
âMr. Beckett!â
Jasper lifted his gaze in difficulty as drops of sweat trickled down his chiseled face. In a blur, he saw Landon and Xavier running toward him.
âJasper, you look pale! Are you okay?â
âIâm fine.â Jasper hung his head and stared listlessly at the coat in his hand.
âHow about Madam? Did you manage to find her? Howâs she doing?â Xavier questioned anxiously.
Before Jasper had a chance to answer, a tall figure brushed past his shoulder and headed for the âHey, Sean Lynch, watch where youâre going!â Xavier bellowed at Sean while pointing a finger at the latter. The encounter left Jasper trembling like a leaf in the wind despite his tall, bulky frame.
Sean spun around and snickered at Jasper. âHah.â
âFuck ⦠Whatâs with that attitude? Mr. Beckett saved Ms. Alyssa, you know?â Xavier was enraged and almost wanted to fight Sean.
âHe owed her that much. Iâll consider it as making amends. Donât ever dream that Iâd thank him,â Sean hissed through gritted teeth and entered the hospital.
At that moment, Jasper felt his chest tighten and his forehead dotted by sweat. He dug his fingernails deep and hard into his palm but couldnât feel the pain amid the agony that shot through his back and tortured his spirit.
âJasper, you donât look okay! Letâs go to the hospital⦠Jasper-â Midway through Landonâs persuasion, Jasper could not hold back and coughed up a mouthful of blood.
âMr. Beckett!â Xavier was on the brink of tears. Sean looked similarly shocked at Jasper, who was vomiting blood out of the blue.
Following that, Jasperâs body trembled as he collapsed onto the floor.
