After Jasper left, Alyssa helped the paralyzed Sean back to her office.
She carefully laid his trembling body on the couch, her forehead damp with sweat and her lips pressed together in concentration. She began examining him like a skilled physician.
âMs. Alyssa, Iâm fineâ¦â Sean managed to move slightly despite being paralyzed. Tears welled up in his eyes as he witnessed Alyssaâs genuine concern. âIâm sorry for the trouble.â
âDonât be ridiculous! You were trying to protect me, but you should avoid acting recklessly in the future,â
she replied, leaning in to gently massage his legs.
âI wasnât being reckless.â Sean summoned all his strength to sit up on the couch. His eyes sparkled with determination as he swore, âIf it ever happens again, Iâll still choose to protect you.â
âSean Lynch, you shouldnât expose yourself to unknown dangers just because you think you have some chops.
âYouâre no match for Jasper at all! Did you think he wasted four years in military school for nothing?â
Alyssa yelled at him out of worry.
She added, âHe went easy on you today. He might have done something far worse if you werenât my employee!â
âSo what? I donât mind risking my life.â Sean clenched his teeth, unsteadily rising to his feet and towering over the petite Alyssa. âEven if it came to that, Iâd never let him bully you!â
âSean â¦â Her eyes widened in shock as they gazed into his misty eyes. Tears streamed down his face, but he remained unaware due to his paralysis.
âOh God, why are you crying again? Are you a three-year-old?â Feeling bitter, she jokingly attempted to wipe his tears away.
Suddenly, he gathered his courage and pulled her into a hug, wrapping his arms around her waist. He pressed a hand on her back, as if he wished to become one with her.
Her eyes wavered. She wasnât oblivious to the feelings in his hug. She gave him a light shove and said, Sean, let go. We can always talk.â
âMs. Alyssa, Iâm willing to be punished for what I did to you.â Seanâs face was tear-stained.
He knew he was pathetic. He was begging for her sympathy. He was outraged and distressed to the point of madness.
TH However, Alyssa wasnât a soft-hearted woman. She firmly poked his chest with a stern look in her eyes, causing him to lose his balance and slump back onto the couch.
âSean, I understand you didnât have bad intentions. I wonât punish you for what happened,â she said, her expression complex.
With an unfeeling tone, she continued, âStarting tomorrow, take a week off and have a good rest at home.â
âMs. Alyssaâ¦â Astonished, he felt a crippling pain rising in him.
âYouâre too tense, which explains your moodiness. Take that week to relax and manage your emotions.
After that, think about how you plan to work alongside me.â
