Alyssaâs Bugatti disappeared into the night. Jameson nudged his glasses with an uncontrollable smile.
His heart fluttered with burning passion.
â¦
The La Voiture Noire sped on the flyover. Alyssa rolled down the window to enjoy the night breeze. She fell into deep thought while staring at the cityscape across the river.
âMs. Alyssa, have you warmed up to Mr.Schmidt? That was fast.â Clutching the steering wheel, Sean asked in a stuffy manner.
âI guess so. We had a lot to talk about.â
âHe might have saved you before, but hehad also stalked you to our neighborhood. You should be careful around him,â Sean grumbled.
âMaybe he did so because he recognizedme and was curious to know more. I think heâs a decent fellow after two meetings with him. Sometimes, he does sound a little funny, though. Is it because Kontina is more liberal than us?â
Her eyes sparkled, and she added,âMost importantly, he is playing the same game as me! Heâs my soulmate! We even made a pact to crush the newbies someday!â
Sean felt increasingly bitter upon hearing that. Pursing his lips, he wallowed in disappointment before asking, âYouâve never been this patient with men. Do you â¦have a crush on him?â
âWhat makes you think so? Is theresomething wrong with your head?â She rolled her eyes at him, looking speechless. âIf anything, he should be the one tocrush on me. Why would I fall for a man?I donât have the time for that. Dating is an obstacle to money-making!â
Cheered by her remarks, Sean chortled. Thankfully, Alyssa remained level-headed after meeting with Jameson Schmidt.
When the car slowed down in a low-speed zone, a card fell out from the flower basket.
âHm?âAlyssa picked up the card with afrown. She opened the card to find a neat handwritten note from Jameson. He wrote, âOh, to be young and in love!â
She narrowed her eyes. Jameson Schmidt was quite a character, indeed.
âIt looks like you ran into your nemesisagain today. Did Liana say anything mean to you today?â Sean was concerned and bridled at the thought of the bitchy woman.
âWhat do you think?â She lifted a brow.âItâs hard to change out of her old ways.â
âSheâs made a move on you. That bitch isdigging her own grave.âEyes darkening, he questioned, âHow will you deal with her?â
âSean, you donât have to follow mearound for now. I need your help on something else.â
âGo ahead.â
âKeep a tab on Liana Gardnerâs mother,Rosaline Kirkman.âShe caressed the roses in the basket with an unempathetic look. âLiana will put her plan in action tonight because she canât sit on it.â
âDid you say anything to her tonight?âSean frowned in confusion.
âI brought up her history in Mosgraviaand scared her witless.â Alyssa almost laughed out loud at the thought of Lianaâs petrified expression.
âOh!Wouldnât she keep her guard up afteryou spoke to her?â Sean asked worriedly.
Smiling, she wagged her finger. âNo,I didnât do it to alert her. I was luring her. I provoked her with my words today to heighten her anxiety when her engagement nears. Sheâll fumble.
Sheâs dead set on marrying Jasper Beckett and will do anything to remove the obstacles in her path.â
Sean gaspea when realization dawned on him.âDoes that mean sheâll find and hide her child?â
Alyssa nodded with a sly look.âShe will likely get Rosaline to help her out because it will be hard to move about when she is 1being hospitalized at the moment.
âOnly Rosaline would know thewhereabouts of the child under foster care. Iâve set the bait. Now, we will wait for them to bite.â
