âThe nanny said Ms. Louise had left for the hospital early in the morning,â the bodyguard explained.
âOh,â Abel replied. No wonder I didnât hear anything in her room earlier. I thought she was still angry at me.
He thought for a moment before reaching toward the breakfast box in the bodyguardâs hands. âLet me deliver it.â
The bodyguard handed the boxes to Abel.
In the ICU ward, Hesperus had already woken up, but his face remained pale.
He had inhaled the dirty water in the pond, and his lungs were infected.
Emmeline discreetly administered several injections, which made him feel a lot better.
âMommy.â With tears in his eyes, Hesperus took Emmelineâs hands. âIâm sorry to make you worry.â
âDonât say that, my baby.â Emmeline placed a finger over his lips. She sounded like she was about to sob. âIâm happy that youâre okay. I nearly lost you.â
âIâm already feeling a lot better.â Hesperus wiped the tears away from Emmelineâs eyes. âIâll stay close to you so you donât have to worry about me anymore.â
âMm. Youâre a good boy, Star.â Emmeline To her, Sun, Moon, and Star were her everything. She would only be happy if the three boys were happy.
The door to the ward opened. Hesperus lifted his gaze over his motherâs shoulder and saw Abel.
âDaddyâ¦â
âWhy are you here?â Emmeline the ward whenever Iâm around?â
Abel could tell that Emmeline must have mistaken him for Adrien.
âAhem, itâs me.â
Emmeline was surprised to hear that voice. She turned her head around.
âItâs you!â Emmeline stood up. âIâm sorry, Mr. Ryker.â
âBreakfast.â Abel showed the two Emmeline blushed slightly. The Abel also felt awkward. He put âAre you feeling better?â he asked in a gentle voice.
He felt a lot more at ease when he saw the little boy gazing at him animatedly.
âThank you, Daddy. Iâm feeling a lot better now,â Hesperus said.
âThatâs good to hear.â Abel patted Hesperusâ head. âWhen youâre feeling better, Iâll bring you all to the amusement park.â
âYay!â Hesperus clapped his though. He didnât shove me into the pond on purpose.â
âTell me, what happened last night?â Abel asked nervously.
âIâve already asked Timothy.â Abel heard a voice from behind him.
It was Alana and Rosaline.
Alana was holding a flask in her hands.
âIt was an accident. Timothy didnât do it on purpose,â Alana said. âHe tripped and accidentally shoved Star away.â
âAccidents can sometimes happen when children jostle each other while playing,â Rosaline said. âI think we should give this matter a rest.â
âI wonder if the culprit is a child,â
Abel said sullenly.
âTimothy is blaming himself,â Alana said while wiping away tears in her eyes. âHeâll be scared if you ask him too many questions.â
âThatâs right,â Alana said. âIâm here to apologize to Hesperus on behalf of Timothy, and weâll lay the matter to rest.â
âIâve never blamed Timothy,â Hesperus said. âHe didnât do it on purpose.â
âYouâre a good boy, Star.â Rosaline leaned over and gently touched Hesperusâ cheek. âCome over and play once youâre feeling better.â
âThank you, Granny,â Hesperus said. âSun, Moon and I love you very much. We thought youâre our real granny.â
Rosaline felt tears well up in her eyes when she heard that.
âYou can still treat me as your real granny. Iâll always love you like youâre my real grandsons,â Rosaline said while wiping her eyes. âWhat do you think?â
