Chapter 627 Janie Meeting Benjamin Janie went to the OBGYN department. After a whole night of thinking, she decided to abort the baby, but after her doctorâs advice, she decided she should wait. After all, this was her first baby, and it was also Benjaminâs first child. Maybe this is fate. I should keep it. The babyâs innocent. If he canât give me the marriage I want, I can always be a single mother. I can raise the child. I make enough money for that.
She left the hospital looking miserable, then she called Benjamin.
âI was just going to look for you,â Benjamin said calmly. âWhy arenât you in your office?â
âThe leave application is on my table.â Janie tried her best not to cry. âI wanted to take a few days off.â
âWhy?â Benjamin frowned. âThereâs no reason for that. I think Iâve been spoiling you a lot.â
âHey, a girl can be unwell, canât she?â Janie sobbed.
âUnwell?â A moment of silence later, Benjamin said, âGet some rest.â
Just when he was about to hang up, Janie quickly said, âI need to talk to you. Do you have time?â
âWhy canât you do this in the office?â Benjamin was a little impatient. âOr do it over the call.â
âThis is private,â she said bitterly. âI need to talk to you. Outside.â
A moment of silence later, Benjamin said, âGive me the location.â
Janie said, âSee you in thirty minutes. The tea shop across the company.â
âGot it,â said Benjamin.
Janie ended the call and drove to the company. The car window was slightly open, allowing a gust of breeze to enter, and Janie cried. She could see that Benjamin didnât really care about her. She wasnât the woman he loved, so he didnât care for her.
What if itâs Emmeline, though? Janie didnât finish that thought. She could never be compared to Emmeline. She was the woman Benjamin took care of for years.
Tears blurred her vision, so she stopped her car, reapplied some makeup, and resumed her journey.
She parked her car at the parking lot half an hour later and entered the tea shop.
Benjamin was already there, and he had reserved a room. Janie sat in front of him, her eyes puffy. The light behind her cast a shadow on her face, so Benjamin couldnât see her tears anyway.
âWhatâs the matter?â Benjamin poured some tea, but he didnât look at her. âYouâre being cryptic.â
âIâ¦â Janie paused for a moment. âIâd like to take a trip overseas.â
âWhat?â Surprised, Benjamin looked at her. âWhy? This is sudden.â
âJust got the idea yesterday,â said Janie. âItâs been exhausting, so Iâd like to decompress.â
âYou couldnât say that on the phone?â Benjamin frowned. âWhyâd you go through all this?â
âYou wonât even give me a few moments of your time, huh?â Janie teared up again.â
âNo. You know how much work I have to do.â
âYouâd still leave a house to burn if it were Emmeline asking you out, though.â
A moment later, Benjamin said, âYou canât say that, Janie. You know howâ¦â
âHow important is she to you? I know. Sheâs more important than I am,â Janie interrupted, and she was on the verge of tears. âI know you love her, so youâd go to her side no matter what happens. You wonât afford that kind of patience with me. Because Iâm nothing compared to her.â
âThat is unreasonable.â Benjamin was a little angry. âI told you how I felt about her. I protected her with my life for years. I love her, even if she doesnât love me back. Iâd still protect her with my life. Why do you have to agonize over this?â
