Chapter 625 Mr. Ywainâs Past âI ask that you do not laugh at me.â Mr. Ywain smiled. âThe Adelmar Clanâs knowledge about medicine is incredible. Everyone would kill to get their hands on it. The books I stole were the ones they discarded, so technically, I didnât steal.â
âThere are books theyâd discard?â Adam thought that was implausible.
âGive me a minute.â Mr. Ywain went to the inner room and came back out with a bag. He opened it up and revealed a few ancient, half-burned tomes.
âWhat are these?â
âThe books I stole,â said Mr. Ywain. âRobert didnât like these books, since they contain subpar recipes.
He thinks keeping them around would be a menace to society, so he tried to destroy it, but I stole a few of them when he wasnât looking. Fortunately, the things I learned gave me enough to make a living.â
Adam smiled. âReminds me of the time I stole Waylonâs Vampire Dust.â
âWhat?â Mr. Ywain asked, âHowâd you do it?â
âI saw his computer. He was sorting out some recipes, and he said he would delete some of the more insidious recipes. I was wondering what kind of recipes he wanted to keep a secret, so I distracted him and went through the Recycle Bin. Thatâs where I found the recipe, so I took a picture of it.â
âThatâs⦠impressive,â said Mr. Ywain. âBut Vampire Dust is evil, so to speak.â
âMay I skim through these?â
âOf course,â said Mr. Ywain. âBut not like you can do much with it. Without any knowledge about medicine, most people canât master anything written in these books.â
Adam took the topmost book. The pages were brittle, so he didnât flip it over. The best he could manage was to turn to the first page, and he saw something called âDeathly Desire.â âDeathly Desire?
Whatâs this?â
âOh, that one.â Mr. Ywain said smugly, âAnyone who takes that poison will experience a pain worse than death, unless they do not feel any arousal.â
âSo arousal is torture to them?â
âThatâs right.â Mr. Ywain grinned. âEvil, isnât it?â
âIt is.â
âItâd be a pity if Robert destroyed these recipes. Theyâre one of a kind.â
âSo you preserved them to ruin someoneâs life?â
âOh, no.â Mr. Ywain laughed. âJust think itâd be a waste if these recipes were to be ruined.â
âI see. Can you make this, then?â Adam asked.
âWhy do you ask?â Mr. Ywain smiled at Adam. âIs there someone you wish to use this on?â
âNo.â Adam smiled as well. âJust asking.â He handed the book back to Mr. Ywain.
The old man packed it up and placed it in the inner room before he came back.
A tearful Evelkyn asked, âDoctor, can you heal me?â
âUmâ¦â Mr. Ywain pinched his beard. âYouâll need the attacker to do that. I canât unravel an Adelmar tactic.â
Evelyn almost fainted. He canât help me? So Iâll have to live my whole life on a bed? âNo!â She cried. âI canât live! Not like this!â
âCalm down,â said Alana. âYou can always ask Emmeline to help you out, didnât you hear? Itâs better than living your whole life on a bed.â
âYou should do that, really,â said Adam. âIf she can help you out, then all my suspicions will be confirmed.â
Evelyn sniffled. âWhy me? I shouldnât have gone after that woman.â
Alana sneered. âSo now you know how I feel.â
