The following day, Abel was busy with work. His phone rang, and he took it and saw it was from the Lewis Mansion. He put it on speaker, so it did not affect his work.
âAbel,â Rosaline was on the other side of the phone; she asked, âWill you be back for lunch?â
âIâll eat in the company,â he answered. âThere is too much work to be done; I canât rush back and forth.â
âOh, erâ¦â She sounded hesitant.
âYou donât have to wait for me.â He hung up the phone. He knew that Evelyn was still waiting for him back there. He felt troubled thinking of her.
Someone knocked on his door. âCome in.â He said it without looking up. He expected some of the executives to be here to report on their work. There have been more than twenty people coming into his office since this morning.
âAbel?â Someone said it faintly.
He looked up and saw Benjamin; he was so much slimmer, but he looked energetic.
âBenjamin?â He was surprised. âPlease come in to have a seat.â
Benjamin sat on the sofa right opposite him, and he asked his secretary to make them some tea.
âWhy are you here?â He asked.
âOne of my steel businesses,â Benjamin said with a faint smile, âwas taken by you.â
âOh,â Abel said, âI didnât know about it.â Before Benjamin could reply, he continued to say, âMy subordinate told me that Aldemarâs company snatched one of our medicine businesses this morning.â
âHa, ha. It seems like weâre the same.â Benjamin said, âIâm not here for this.â
âThen?â Abel put his pen down and looked at him curiously.
âI felt uneasy,â He pinched his bridge of the nose, and he said, âAnd I realized I can only talk openly with you.â
âWhat do you want to say?â Abel smiled faintly and said, âIâm all ears.â
âHowâs your stomach?â He asked.
âWell,â Abel nodded his head and said, âthe medicine from your family is magical.â
âSoâ¦â Benjamin stared at his eyes and asked, âAll your feelings for Emmeline were gone.â
Abel frowned and asked, âBenjamin, what are you talking about?â âSince when have I had feelings for her?â
Benjamin sighed and shook his head. âJust pretend I never asked about it.â
âYouâre so strange.â Abel said, âYouâre making it sound like Iâve done something wrong to Emmeline.
You canât force yourself to love someone, just like you and Janie.â
âJanie and I?â He smirked and said, âIâm trying to develop feelings for her.â
âHow is it working so far?â Abel snorted.
Benjamin shook his head.
âAnd you dare to make fun of me?â He sneered, âJust like you and her, I wonât fall for Emmeline too.â
âBut the two of you are different,â Benjamin said. âDid you forget you two have four children together?â
âI was being tricked back then!â His face turned cold. âAlana drugged me, but I ended up having sex with Emmeline. Iâm sorry for what happened, and I did everything I could for her. I just wouldnât fall for her! Itâs impossible!â
Impossible? You totally forgot how you were all over her. If it werenât for Waylonâs drug, you would definitely die for her! But nowâ¦
âWhy did you suddenly talk about this?â Abel asked, âAre you too bored?â
âOf course not,â He stared at Abel, and he said, âI want to tell youâ¦â
He suddenly changed his mind and said, âJust forget it!â âItâs useless telling you!â
âForget about what?â Whatâs useless?â Abel frowned and asked, âWhatâs making you hesitant?â
âIâm saying that; everythingâs too late now,â Benjamin said regrettably. âNo one would have thought thatâ¦â
âBenjamin,â Abel asked, âwhat are you trying to say?â
