Abel glanced at Evelyn in silence. âPaul sure did teach his daughter well. Youâre a well-rounded woman,â Oscar said. âYou flatter me, Grandad. Iâll be sure to prepare more delicacies for you in the future,â Evelyn said.
âPerhaps you should stay and be my granddaughter-in-law. My sons are supposed to get married soon, but Emmeline seems to beâ¦â Abel suddenly turned around. Oscar nearly bumped into him. âAre you trying to give me a heart attack?â Oscar uttered.
âI lost my appetite so Iâll be leaving now,â Abel said. âI dare you!â Oscar yelled. âI apologize, grandad,â
Abel said as he walked past Oscar. âMr. Abel, donât leave!â Evelyn held onto his arm. Abel pushed her away.
âMr. Abel, do you hate me? If you do then Iâll leave. Please donât make Grandad angry,â Evelyn said with teary eyes. Abel glared at Evelyn in silence. âMr. Abel, please donât go. Iâll leave insteadâ¦â Evelyn muttered.
âAbel! Youâre a man yet youâre acting like a child! Get back here! You can leave after lunch!â Oscar shouted. âAbel, cut it out with that. How can you disobey Grandadâ Adrien said. âThatâs right, Mr. Abel.
Weâre all here, so letâs not make things difficult for Grandadâ Lizbeth added.
âMr. Abel, please stay. Iâll leave. I donât want Grandad to be angry,â Evelyn said. âFine. Letâs have lunch together,â Abel replied. Evelyn wiped her tears and said, âYouâre not mad at me anymore? Thatâs great!â
Everyone sat down at the dining table. Evelyn sat beside Abel. âMr. Abel, you should try this. I made this myself,â Evelyn said as she passed the dishes to Abel. At the other end of the table, Adrien said, âLiz, you should try this. Itâs good for your health. I asked the chefs to prepare this just for you.â
Evelyn stood up and walked over to Oscar with a dish in her hand. âGrandad, try this one. I made it myself. Itâs crispy on the outside and tender on the inside,â she said. âYouâre too kind. Youâre much better in comparison toâ¦â Oscar decided not to finish his sentence.
Evelyn smiled as she knew what Oscar meant. âMr. Abel, this oneâs for you. Itâs good for your digestion,â Evelyn said as she returned to her seat. Abelâs plate was filled to the brim. However, he only took a few bites.
âShall I make some congee for you? Iâve heard that you often get stomach aches,â Evelyn said. âIâm fine,â Abel said. âIn that case, you should try this herbal soup. It contains essential nutrients,â Evelyn continued.
âIâm done eating,â Abel said as he placed his cutlery down. âAbel, how can you be so cold towards Ms.
Evelyn when sheâs being considerate of you?â Oscar asked. âGrandad, itâs alright. Iâm used to this,â
Evelyn said.
âYouâre so thoughtful, Evelyn,â Oscar said as he glared at Abel. âIâm done here, enjoy your meal.
Thereâs still work to be done. Iâm leaving now,â Abel said.
