know Mr. Benjamin has feelings for Emma,â Abel said. âEmma is my woman, and Iâll protect her with my life.â
âThatâs good to hear!â Benjamin and Ethan both nodded in agreement.
They trusted Abelâs character, and one thing about him was that he never allowed any young women to be around him except for his family.
This one trait alone had defeated countless men.
However, Benjamin still let out a soft sigh.
After four years of watching over Emmeline, she still didnât belong to him.
The three men returned to the private room just as the food was being served.
Grace opened the birthday cake that Benjámin had bought and placed candles on it.
âHappy birthday, Skylar.â
âMake a wish quickly,â the four youngsters cheered.
Skylar closed his eyes and made a wish as he blew out the candles in one breath.
With her wish made, the candle flames flickered and died.
âSkylar, what did you wish for?â Timothy asked.
Helios, Endymion, and Hesperus urged her on, âCome on, tell us all about it.â
âA wish canât be revealed, hahaha,â Skylar laughed happily.
âWell, then give us the cake,â the four youngsters said eagerly.
âIâll do it, Iâll do it,â Grace said as she began to cut the cake.
And so began a joyous birthday feast.
Adrien left the Imperial Palace and went home to take a nap. When the alcohol wore off, he got up and took a hot shower. Feeling refreshed, he put on his suit and brought five doses of âRegret Medicineâ to the hospital to see his mother.
As soon as Julianna saw her son, she burst into tears, which made Adrienâs eyes feel watery too. He regretted not coming to accompany his mother two days earlier.
Julianna took her sonâs hand and sobbed, âItâs been days since your father came to see me, and your brother hasnât shown up either. Iâve been so sad.â
Adrien patted his motherâs hand and said, âYou still have me. From now on, I wonât lead a dissolute life anymore. I will take good care of you until you get better.â
âBut my illness, the doctor said it will stay with me. Iâm scared,â Julianna said.
âDonât worry,â Adrien said. â brought you some regret medicine, it will make you feel better.â
âRegret medicine? What do I regret?â Julianna asked.
âOh, no, no,â Adrien said quickly. âI misspoke. Itâs a secret family recipe that can cure heart disease.â
âWhere did you get this secret family recipe? The Ryker family doesnât have a history of medicine,â
Julianna said skeptically.
âNevermind that, Mom,â Adrien said. âJust trust me and take the medicine. Youâll feel better soon.â
âBut is this folk remedy reliable?â
Julianna still wasnât convinced.
âI think it is,â Adrien replied. âIf youâre still hesitant, we can ask the hospital director to confirm it.â
âIf thatâs the case, youâd better ask Dr. Carter to come over,â Julianna said. âMy life is precious, you know.â
Adrien promptly notified the attending physician and called for Dr. Carter.
In about ten minutes, Dr. Carter rushed over.
âMadam Julianna, Mr. Adrien.â
âHmm,â Julianna said with a stern expression. âMy son brought me a secret family recipe for treating heart disease. Can you take a look at it for me?â
Adrien handed over several prepared doses of medicine to Dr. Carter.
Upon opening and examining them, Dr. Carter furrowed his brow and then remarked, âWow, this is an amazing concoction. Iâve been studying medicine for half a lifetime, and Iâve never come across this combination before.â
âWhat are you trying to say?â
Julianna asked. âJust tell me if the medicine is usable.â
âIt is. Absolutely,â Dr. Carter replied. âThis recipe was formulated by a master, and it will undoubtedly have a tremendous effect on Madam Juliannaâs condition.â
Of course,â Adrien said proudly. âI knew it was reliable.â
âSon, who are you talking about?â Julianna asked.
âDonât worry about that,â Adrien said. âIâve instructed the nurse to prepare the medicine, and youâll drink it shortly. Your illness will be cured!â
âMr. Adrien,â Dr. Carter said respectfully, âMay I meet the master who gave you this prescription? I would like to learn from her.â
âSorry, sheâs already passed away,â Adrien said. âYou canât seek guidance from her anymore.â
âOh, what a pity,â Dr. Carter said, shaking his head. âA master, a divine healer, why did she have to pass away?â
âI told you itâs an ancestral prescription,â Adrien said, annoyed. âWhy do you keep hoping that sheâs still alive?â
